hossy
It performed in four cities in Japan. Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. Five rock 'n' rollers came to Fukuoka. The day was the next day that Eric injures in Osaka. I went to see the Fukuoka performance. A tall chair was put on the stage. Hall announcement before it performs: "Eric Carmen injured the foot in Osaka yesterday. He will perform sitting on the chair. And, he might leave it on the way." However, Eric never sat on the chair. Eric sat only on a piano chair. Eric spoke to the audience during the performance. Because it was English of course, I hardly understood. However, I was able to catch word "Big shot". Eric might have said so, "I got to the big shot shooting my foot in Osaka yesterday!!!" When Eric finished sang "ALL BY MYSELF," the spotlight hit only him. Eric began to sing "BOATS AGAINST THE CURRENT" only in an own piano performance. It was a very wonderful performance. Four rock 'n' rollers were focused on Eric with applauded when the performance ended. It was a very moving scene. I never forget. After that, 30 years passed. I must hear only "ALL BY MYSELF" in the tune of solo since it the RASPBERRIES REUNION in 2005, and in a live performance. I want to hear other solo tunes of Eric.

hossy
Thanks angelina and elle4ec !! It was written in the Eric's fan club news magazine that performance in Fukuoka was the best of "Rock Super Session". I thought that I was very glad because I read it. I think that audience's more than half was Eric's fan. "Rock Super Session" in Tokyo was broadcast by the FM broadcasting.

"More than half" of that audience were very smart fans, not the only time that people attended just to hear Eric in person!
hossy
In it, Carmine 1st solo album promotion was a principal aim. Therefore, the band name was "CARMINE APPICE AND FRIENDS." So photos other than the carmine are small. It was reluctant. Eric said "This is Carmine's tour, not mine."
hossy
Hi marathon mama! When the performance of "All By Myself" started, the audiences rose most.

To translate it meant: If a woman would have put together the photos, Eric's would have been the largest, because he is "gokana." Gee, I hope I used the right translation. Eric Carmen
So, here's the inside story.Carmine played a lot of the "Tonight You're Mine" album. He's a really great rock drummer. Duane Hitchings also played on a lot of that album and he and I stayed in contact after the album was done (something almost unheard of in L.A.).One night, I'm sitting in bed watching TV, and Duane calls. I ask him how he's doing and what he's up to, and he tells me Carmine finally got a record deal and he's just finished his album and he's put together a band and it looks like they're going to Japan and Hawaii to support the album. I asked Duane who was in the band , and he said Tom Petersson from Cheap trick, Rick Derringer and himself. Since I love Japan and Hawaii, I said "Hey, do you guys need another guitar player?" Duane asks me if I'm serious, and I said "Yes"!He said he'd call Carmine and call me back.About an hour later, Carmine calls me and says let's do it. So, we did about 10 days of rehearsal in L.A. and off we went.Seemingly, from the minute we arrived in Japan, the rock press divided us into two different groups. Carmine, Duane and Rick were seen as "serious musicians", while Tom and I were seen more like "teen idols."When the elevator in the hotel arrived in the lobby everyday, Carmine would walk out with serious mascara, the Fu-Manchu mustache, a large cloak, pirate earrings and tri-colored hair. I think the Japanese girls thought he was kind of scary. He was hoping to be mobbed, but it wasn't happening. Then Tom and I would come down, and 500 girls would rush the elevator. Carmine was not pleased.I remember reading one interview Tom and I did, where we said, jokingly, we were the "lightweights" of the band. That translated into the press as "Eric and Tom are 'Light Eaters."It was all pretty funny.
Paulie Mississippi
It's always great to hear from the source... hope things are going well for you EC... Thanks for taking the time! If I may... because of your talent and your charisma, it's difficult for you to be a part of someone else's gig... much like the attention you garnered in Japan, I recall when you toured with Ringo... at least at the Ft. Lauderdale show, where I got to see you for the one and only time (so far)... There were times during that show that the audience seemed to think of it as Eric Carmen and his back-up band! Of course I know there were a decent number of YOUR fans in the audience... I spoke to a few right before the show, though I did not get names... I do recall that there was a large number of women behind the piano that seemed really into you... and I thought there might be a fight amongst them when you tossed your towel at the end of the show! I also recall the reaction to the opening strains of "Boats" when you performed it while the rest of the All-Stars took a break... There were whoops and hoots from all over the arena... scattered throughout the masses. And when you finished performing that under-appreciated masterpiece, you got what might have been the loudest ovation of the night! I'm sure that Ringo and the other guys are all professional enough to appreciate your talent, but were they man enough to understand the passion of your fans?

To tell the truth, I think that 99.9% of the Japanese girls that went to the show was Eric's fan though it is bad for the Carmine One of my friend went to the show. She did not remember Carmine (sorry!), and she said It just remember Eric Carmen!!! It is correct. By the way, many of Japanese do not correctly understand the joke.

That is part of the charm of "engrish"... there can be a lot of innocent mistakes made when translating back and forthe between English and Japanese... Especially you reach a second or third translation of the same sentence... I have seen some hilarious items; movie titles and "catch-phrases" for example... also the translations of product instructions...
Aventurine
Paulie, I read a English Guide Book several days ago. The Japanese often misunderstands that the word is few. Or, the kind of the joke not recorded in a English-Japanese dictionary, the argot, clipped word, and the popular word. And my English doesn't progress so much now. This is true (LOL). Sentences without a subject In Japanese you can delete the subject of a sentence and still make yourself understood. "Japanese people are so good at 'sensing' the right meaning from the context that hardly ever have any trouble the omitted subject of a sentence and still understand each other. While this may sound quite confusing for non-Japanese, the key here is for you to say the key word. They will complete the rest of the sentence in their heads and will most likely understand you."
Paulie Mississippi
Usually when it comes to "finishing thoughts or sentences" of others, I leave it to my wife... she knows what I mean... or what I should mean... or what she wants me to mean...

hossy
If neither Eric nor Tom are members, NIPPON BUDOKAN might not have been able to be used. There might not have been a lot of audiences if they were not members.

Now I feel kinda sorry for Carmine. I just want to give him a big ole hug. I mean, he put so much effort into making his photo so LARGE in that poster. And now to hear, well, it wasn't about him after all. Oh well, "C'est la vie!" - that's iust the way it goes - that's right!
Drupelet
With no knowledge of this tour at the time, I spoke to Carmine about working with Eric. This was in 2008. It was just the two of us speaking casually—there was nobody else around and we were just hanging out. Anyway he smiled to himself for a moment and said how much he "really liked working with him." I don't remember much else in the way of details, unfortunately. Like I said, I didn't know about this tour at all back then. I thought we were only talking about "Tonight You're Mine." I got no sense of bitterness from him about it and I didn't get the impression he was just being careful in his speaking. Carmine's cool—the man, the mustache, the legend!
