Paul Davie
Yeah! Someone has finally confirmed it! According to CottageViews.com: In the News: The Bangles Return - 80s Power-Pop priestesses The Bangles are reportedly in the studio working on a new album for 2009. Additionally, guitarist/vocalist Susannah Hoffs and Matthew Sweet have teamed up for a second helping of Under The Covers. While the disc is not slated for release until late July, 16 tracks for Under the Covers, Vol. 2 have already been recorded. Guests include Dhani Harrison, the son of the late great Beatle George, on a version of his father's "Beware of Darkness," Steve Howe on Yes' "I've Seen All Good People," and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham on "Second Hand News." Other tracks recorded by the duo are Todd Rundgren's "Hello, It's Me," Carly Simon's "You're So Vain," and the Raspberries "Go All the Way." popdude
It's a pretty good - and faithful to the original - version, although it sounds to me like there's a bad edit towards the beginning of the tune...
bahoodore
i loved their first record....really cool arrangements and true enough to the originals...bahoo
Matthew C. Clark
I would like to see Matthew & Susanna do "Where Evil Grows" by The Poppy Family from 1971. Too bad they haven't listened to that song. Matt
austinberries
this is cool b/c everything they did on vol 1 sounded so great - great pop/powerpop sensibilities, those two; however, they will be extremely hard-pressed to wail + croon like EC did on GATW - i would guess she will need to sing that one, b/c i don't think he can touch it, vocally

Doug
I like it, 'cause it's a great song no matter who does it. It seems like a fairly 'safe' cover - no big risks taken. Best result would be more folks buying the original, of course!
missm
Wow, Doug!! I like it, too. There was nothing that jumped out and grabbed me (like the original), but it was good just the same. Thanks for posting this!!
LobsterLvr
I will like ANY version of GATW, but this one sounds like it was produced and arranged by a high school music teacher. "ok suzie you sing this part. matthew you sing here, here and here. And you kids in the band...no foolin' around!"
Wendy-Ann
You know...I think it's ok. And I love Susanna Hoffs, but it just didn't do it for me. I agree that it sounds "high schoolish." To each his own I suppose.
wimvriezen
Not a stunning version but I like it somehow, nice done...

To me, it sounds like they did ten takes, grabbed some of the vocals from one take, some from another, the guitar from another, etc. It just sound like it was digitally mashed together by someone who was not very good at editing. It doesn't suck. After listening to it a few times, it kind of grows on me, as opposed to The Raspberries version, which just knocks you on your butt from the get-go. angelina
It's GATW...so I was obviously excited to hear it. That being said....better luck next time. I liked the Sweet/Hoffs remakes from the last CD...but GATW seems too ambitious for them. I'd actually prefer the Jonas boys do GATW. Maybe Sweet/Hoffs should have tackled "Let's Pretend".(not an easy song...but vocally would be interesting)
sllvnbil
I'm a fan of Sweet/ Hoffs but, I'm not digging this version.

So ummmm...shhhhh, before they hear you and I'll have to put myself out of my misery if they do it. Okey-dokey, then...
Kirk
Maybe that's how Jim won the voting for "foxiest Raspberrie". Or, maybe Barb tallied the votes
angelina
Wendy...I LOVE hearing remakes of classics. I've given the Rollers' version of Let's Pretend a few spins on youtube. BTW...awesome graphics on your posts girl! WORD-YAH

Yeah.......but Jimmy Ienner produced it. See what I mean? And I still like that version 'til this day. It reminds me of being 14 again. However, there is nothing like the original version of that song. So....shhh...shhh...if we keep "vewy, vewy" quiet, they won't hear you. Brian Mc Carthy
Its always a flattering tribute when anyone covers your music But the originals always remain the preferred choice to the listener For they stand the test of time
austinberries
upon listening, i have to agree w/ the naysayers, this version is milktoast. i'm a big fan of these two also, esp matthew sweet, but this just goes to show what an original composition, & an especially original performance, by EC & the Raspberries this song was - it will never be touched by any cover or dupe.. not even close, by light years..
