you're kidding, right????

I mean, I love the Raspberries, but... the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame?

My guess is there are about 50,000 more deserving entrants that haven't gotten in yet.

Hell, I mentioned Todd Rundgren to one of the voting members and got laughed all the way back to Studio City...

Marc I agree there are lots of others who belong there...but my vote is for the Berries...besides all the obvious reasons (songs, gifted songwriter, awesome guitar players, thundering drums) they are from Cleveland and put the "Rock" in Cleveland Rocks...my vote stands and I will continue my quest to get them more votes.....

Marc,I know you've been around the the block a few times, so have I. Your 50,000 number was of course silly. As a Todd Rundgren fan [Of SOME of his stuff...he is terribly inconsistent] I think he is just about as deserving as The Raspberries...I mean, aside from putting out more product,he had about three great albums[iMO] and a bunch of classic songs...mmmmm sounds like another band I know...with one difference,The Raspberries were truly the Godfathers of PowerPop. If you have not read John Borack's 'Shake Some Action' [Popdude from this board] I would suggest you do so. He interviews all of the genre's leading artists, past and present. Guess who virtually every one of them listed at the top of most influential and favorite group and song? Yep, you guessed it The Raspberries.

See, while they did have some nice commercial success, their influence on other artists is probably their strongest argument for being in the R&R HOF. I mean The Buffalo Springfield, The VU, Patty Smith, etc are in for their influence. How many records did the Buffalo Springfield have?

I don't have any problem with you not thinking The Raspberries should not be inducted [i believe they should be in...After The Hollies get in!] But a silly statement like there are 50K more deserving is an uncool thing to post here.In my dumb opinion of course.

Eloquently stated, Hollies. There will always be those who should be in whether our guys get in or not. What's truly disturbing is that it doesn't appear that merit or influence (on their peers, that is) is what gets you in. And by the way, I'm proud to be #50.

And well you should have. Todd Rundgren? Raspberries belong in the Hall long before your good friend Todd, IMHO. He's okay, but talk about an uneven career....

Raspberries, on the other hand, put out four high-quality albums in three years, and their influence has proven to be a lot deeper and more substantive than Rundgren's. And judging by other Hall inductees, impact is more important than longevity. A short burst of greatness (Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Valens) is more revered than a long career if that career hasn't been consistently top-notch.

Marc, I know you're a record-company "lifer," but... to say 50,000 acts belong in the Hall ahead of Raspberries is flat-out... lame. IMHO.

Marc, I am laughing you all the way back to whatever 'industry'rock you crawled out from under...you think because you are in 'da business' that you have better perspective than the majority of people who are true industry giants like "KISS" who already have acknowledged the influence/greatness of the Raspberries. I think if anything, that gives you a lack of insight as you are obviously experiencing 'industry tunnelvision' something that often excludes greatness in favor of bottom line $$. Just because you have 30 plus years in the business does NOT make an authority on every aspect of a particular business. Sorry, but I have never ever heard of Marc ???...and until I see your name mentioned in the same breath among some of the legends in the music industry ALREADY in the RRHOF, your comment of 50,000 plus seems about as innappropriate and uneducated as having Don Imus take over the reigns of doing play by play for womens' basketball IMHO!

While I have expressed my difference of opinion with Marc,I want to make it clear I do enjoy his posts. He does bring a special insight to certain subjects that I find enlightning. He also has a very good grasp on some ultra obscure records, having a hand in some of them. This board is a better place with his posts. Well, most of them.Heh.
