Jay52
Taken from the 1988 Summer Olympics album "One Moment In Time"... I can't believe its been twenty years already. I always liked this song, continues the "Hungry Eyes/Make Me Lose Control" period.
Brian Mc Carthy
I used to have it on a cassette single ! Remember those ? And the flip side was SUNRISE i think my niece borrowed it forever I have not heard it since back then 87_88 i like it too Thanks Jay
Kirk
It's funny to read Eric's comments on the song. Something like "I couldn't remember that tune if you put a gun to my head". Not his favorite...
Eric Carmen
That song really sucks.

Eric Carmen
When the head of promotion asks you to do something, it is unwise to say "no." Particularly when the head of promotion is Don Ienner. Even if it sucks. That's Matt Sorum from Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver on drums, by the way.
TOMMY TUNES
Jimmy Ienner and Don Ienner are brothers, correct?
Brian Mc Carthy
Eric for a song you dont give a hoot about You still put a good effort behind it And my niece thought so too Since she kept my cassette single of it!
Matthew C. Clark
Reminds me inbetween of "Hungry Eyes" & "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship from 1987. Matt
Eric Carmen
Jimmy is Don's older brother. I'd rather drink bleach than have to listen to that song again.
MJ
I know you'll be happy to know I have never listened to it ever - I didn't even pull it up on here!
rockynrobyn1977
I kinda thought that Starship song too, that's funny.
danmichel
I've been thinking that "Reason To Try" reminded me of a commercial campaign...And i found what i was thinking of...Listen to the backing music and Kenny Rogers in this "The Pride is Back" commercial for Plymouth... Oh, c'mon Eric, it's not THAT bad. Admittedly, it's not one of your masterpieces, but I don't think you need drink bleach over it! I still have the cassette... Jay52
Just for the record and according to the credits, Eric didn't write the song.Sorry guys for bringing up this old un-wanted memory.Still though, compared to some of the other stuff that was coming out at the time, I've heard worse.I was talking to a friend of mine and he asked me if I would have bought it if it was recorded by someone other than Eric...the answer of course was no.Any recording that had Eric's involvement found its way into my house.Sorry! Any recording that had Eric's involvement found its way into my house. That's the ONLY reason I bought the album - yes the album, not the single. As bad as the song is, it does have some stellar musicians - Michael Lloyd, Michael Fisher, Oren Waters, Jim Haas, and from Venice - Mark and Kipp Lennon. The songwriters Jon Lind and Phil Gladston, have had success with other songs, especially "Save The Best For Last" by Vanessa Williams, and "Crazy For You" by Madonna. Brian Mc Carthy
Eric i am surprised that you would not reflect on it more fondly It was part of the Olympics that is an honor for you sir Its a special achievement in your Great music career The song certainly inspired the athletes not to give up on their dreams Also your vocal performance was a motivating factor
Eric Carmen
Jon. and Phil are both fine songwriters. I don't think this was one of their best.
Dave from Equinox
Eric Carmen said: That song really sucks. I commented on another thread (we were discussing Hungry Eyes) that I hoped you got paid a lot of $ for singing that thing! I have that Japanese CD of Tonight You're Mine with the 8 extra tracks; I always skip that one song. I actually have that 45 with the picture sleeve; like Jay, the only reason I bought it is because Eric Carmen was associated with it (and the flipside is awesome!). marvin
I bought the album because it had a few artists that I liked: Eric, the Bee Gees, Lionel Ritchie, and I have to say that none of the songs were especially memorable.
Craig Benfer
I like the verse better than the chorus.
Brian Mc Carthy
Marathon Man would be a great song for the olympics With the verse Endless nights and olympian dreams And i love the energy of the arrangement And of course the vocal delivery with a confident swagger The song gives you an energy boost!
