Nothing would make the "Sweet people" happier ( How's that for an oxymoron). I still can't get over how great that Brian fellow looked considering his advanced age. Love is like oxymoron, as they say.

hollies65
Anna,yes...nothing too bad...I am just amazed at the lack of musical snobs over there...Any good musical snob/hipster is well aware of The Raspberries influence, and place in Rock history as one of the Godfathers of Powerpop. hollies65
I have not much interest in the English charts. They had 5 billboard hits. If the Brit charts meant anything The Hollies would be in the R&R HOF in their first year of eligibility.

He's always amazed at how different the UK charts were compared to the charts on this side of the ocean, and he (as I'm sure as do others from the UK) swears by Sweet, T-Rex, Showaddywaddy, Mud, David Essex, and other UK acts that had major chart success. For him, these acts were STARS even though they had little or no success in North America.
hollies65
I for one feel TRex/ Marc Bolan should be in the R&R HOF...didn't do much here...I LOVED his albums!
marvin
Steve, T-Rex actually did much better in Canada than they did in the U.S. A number of their songs charted here, not to mention a few of the songs have been covered by Canadian artists. So airplay continues for Marc Bolan.
hollies65
Got em all starting with 'Unicorn'. I LOVE 'The Slider','Electric Warrior'...All of em...I don't care if they all sound alike. I have a handwritten postcard Marc sent legendary record executive Mo Ostin in 1972 from Japan. That's one of my favorite pieces.

Lew Bundles
I saw them when they opened up for 3 Dog Night back in 71 or 72...Bolan was pissed that nobody was applauding...He said, "We're playing our fu****g hearts out up here, the least you can do is clap"...He ended the show with a 20 minute version of "Bang A Gong"...After a wild lead , the amps caught on fire...Flames(?) were shooting out of them and they had some guys dressed as firemen run onstage and put the hoses to the speakers..It was great!!!! marvin
I read that recently Bolan's millions were finally released out of some secured trust fund in the Bahamas, and his son Roland (that's right, "Roland Bolan") inherited something like $100m. Lew Bundles
I also saw his murderer, Grace Jones at a nightclub back in the 70's...They brought her in on a chariot and it was the first time that I had seen a concert with just musical tracks played in the background instead of instruments...I think, she even sang "Tainted Love" which was written by her long before Soft Cell did it...I'm not real sure that she performed it that night though, bevause I had never heard it before...Someone I atteneded thae show with brought it to my attention many years later...I gotta go back to the Sweet Board now...There's no one on it and I'm afraid that it'll close up from old age...Maybe, I can have everybody over there try on an iron lung tomorrow... Gloria was his girlfriend (wife?) and in the car with him during the car crash.
Matthew C. Clark
As the lyrics in the song "Little Willy" goes: "Lay Down, Stay Down, Stay Down, Down". Actually another song comes to mind "Lay Down, Stay Down" by Deep Purple (from 1974 "Burn"). Matt

LC
Marvin, I think I know what you're referring to at the Sweet board: the nice welcome you got! You're already looked upon as an asset to the folks over there, who might need the same kind of clarification you provide for us. So... congrats! For those who didn't see it, a poster named LittleWillyHoo opened his arms for Marv, clearly impressed by (how else to put this?) his "vast knowledge of rock history and everyone's place in it." Here's the LittleWillyHoo comment: "Welcome Marvin--I was just saying I hoped you would join us because it looked as if you know your stuff. To be honest, I really haven't heard but a few of [Eric's] songs so I plan on doing the YouTube thing today and checking them out to see if I may recognize them. I actually do like All By Myself and have it on the ol' Ipod." Again, congrats to you! You're in demand!!
hollies65
Dear Sweet Fans; I enjoy Sweet's music, I own their records. I must say I was pretty shocked when reading your board, it appeared many there were unfamiliar with the Raspberries.Hooks, crunchy guitars riffing and great harmonies are something both bands shared. Do yourself a favor and watch this LIVE clip as the Kings of Powerpop tear through two of their big hits. Cheers......
