hollies65
Yes. Let's summerize; Shoo de wop...papa ooo mow mow...nonsense syllable that sound good...in the context of a song that makes sense.Songs that sounds good...but make no sense [To most people] such as 'Little Willy'. Brian Mc Carthy
Another legend Here something to check out Little Richard played piano on a BTO song called Take it like a Man from 1976 Really awesome Near the end of the song Randy yells PLAY IT RICIHARD ! Julie
.....and, then there are the songs with words that make no sense: case in point--Lionel Richie's "Say You, Say Me". What the heck????!!!I'd much rather hear the sha-na--na--la--bing-bongs.... Tony--feel free to chime in on this one--I now you have issues with this song too! Tony Cartmill
You know, I've only heard Little Richard's hit songs. But aren't they all a variation of the same simple blues chord progression? And 3rd-grade rhymes?Popular at the primitive beginning of rock and roll, but if Richard debuted in the 70's, wouldn't he have been judged energetic but not a very creative songwriter? John P
marvin said: "Desolation Boulevard" was a fine record, but in my opinion, it pales next to "Off the Record" or "Cut Above the Rest." Some incredible songs on both those records. Even "Give Us A Wink" had that one killer tune, "Action." In case no one knows the american version of Desolation Boulevard was somewhat of a compilation lp. It compiled from the 2 overseas studio lps Sweet Fanny Adams and Desolation Boulevard. 5 and 3 tracks respectively. Blitz originally came out in 73 and was a add on. So was I Wanna Be Committed which I think was a B side. The overseas DB featured the original version of Fox On The Run which was a totally different version than the one we're all familiar with. It was a straight ahead rocker and without the synths.
hollies65
Nothing wrong with the synths on 'Fox On The Run'.Usually synths leave me cold...that's one time they worked.
TOMMY TUNES
Disc jockey Dennis Elsas, who wrote the liner notes for Raspberries Greatest Hits Package as well as introducing them at their reunion at BB Kings in NYC, used to play the heck out of "Fox On The Run" when he worked at the late great WNEW-FM

Can you summarize why Priest and Scott don't work together - and in fact why their versions of Sweet operate on two different continents? John P
Ask me anything of Sweet because I'm a SWEETAHOLIC. Steve Priest and Andy Scott did talk about working together but those 2 simply don't see eye to eye. Steve disagrees on Andy's choices of musicians and Steve wanted a band of the musicians that he wanted. Oddly enough Steve did say years ago that he would never go out with a band of his own under the moniker Sweet and even criticized Andy for not going under a another name like the Andy Scott Band. panasonicq
I Wanna' be Committed was the final 'single' (A-Side) written by Chinn- Chapman but was disgarded by the band and they released their self-penned re-arranged version of "Fox On The Run" and as a result had a worldwide HIT. No.1 in most European countries. The Sweet had 8 No.1's in Germany along with all the other 8 or 9 chart toppers. Some of their European B-Sides are as good, if not better than the A-Sides, A good compilation CD available on most music websites will confirm this. The problem with Sweet is some of you people will expect the 'Little Willy' type of complete rubbish and then get blown away with the likes of "Off The Record" and "Give Us A Wink!" albums. "Level Headed" was a completely different ball game! Not easy to sum up in a nutshell but for now that's the best i can do, hope it helps somewhat!!! marvin
"Off the Record" and "Level Headed" are as good straight-ahead-rock albums as any that were released in the 1970's. Also loved the artwork on both albums.
John P
Level Headed was my least favorite. Though love the B side of Oxygen Cover Girl.
Tim From Wisconsin
What do you think of the song "Discophony" off "Cut Above The Rest"? I like it - It was one of the first anti-disco songs released. I also like the song "Mother Earth" off this album.Tim
John P
Discophony was great. CATR started off with Brian still in the band and a few of the demos from that lp features Brian on vocals. It appeared on the demos and outtakes cd Platinum Rare.
marvin
"Cut Above the Rest" was the last Sweet album I bought.
panasonicq
You really, REALLY need to find a copy of "Sweetlife" it's quite superb, two, maybe three listens and you're hooked. Great production and well worth a few $ believe me. Best album since.........? You're missing out if you don't have ths one. Satisfaction GUARANTEED. John P
Sweetlife was good. Everything was a good song and the ballad Airheads sounded very much like ELO. Jeff Brown did a good job on vocals.
Dave from Equinox
Every so often I pull out an album I haven't heard in a long time and don't have on CD. I played CATR about three weeks ago, actually. Always loved the solos in Discophony and the variations in middle of Mother Earth (and also the synths on the fadeout). That record and Level Headed were my favorite Sweet albums.I have all the albums from DB to Sweet VI except OTR - didn't like that one for some reason at that time and I don't remember why... panasonicq
Look out for an album/cd with some of their b-side recordings, here are all where most of their real 'gems' lay.

marvin
There are a few fans of Sweet here who will readily admit that they put out some really great records. Unfortunately just like Eric / Raspberries music is an unknown commodity to many on the Sweet site, there are many here who don't know Sweet beyond "Little Willy."
