Muzza
Hey folks. There has been quite a bit on our news, both radio and T.V., about the heat over there. Kiwi and I hope none of you are too badly affected by it. Its hard sitting here in little New Zealand seeing that stuff and knowing we have EC.com family who may be affected. You all take care now you hear. Keep cool and walk don't run.Muzza and Kiwi.
AnniekNY
Hi ya Muzza - it has been a tough week here. Yesterday was particularly nasty - very heavy humidity and 107 degrees with the heat index. We have just been staying in the air conditioning. But, even with the a/c, my house only cools off to 84 degrees...very liveable but not conducive to activity.my football team still had soccer camp every morning - they were tough girls let me tell you! There's an canadian front moving through as we speak and the temperature has dropped 12 degrees ! Still very humid, though.Do you Kiwis get the humidity like we do?
Paulie Mississippi
Not quite as bad in Florida, temp wise; but we did have a record for this date of 96 today, and they said because of humidity, the heat index was 115... whew, thank God for Air Conditioning! ira
Annie-my house is 81 and being a full-fledged lunatic-I keep checking the vents to see that the ac is working. It is. It just can't fully offset 3-4 days of my house baking in the sun. Thanks for your concern-Muzza.-Ira.
AnneG
I had considered spending this week in NYC until I saw the forecast... It's amazing how powerful that nice looking Sun is. A refreshing 45 minute time in the pool results in drinking 10x as much water during the day as usual. Anne
sterling
Here in the midwest it rained early this morning and it cooled off to 85 today. It was much appreciated as heat index was 110 the past few days. Temperatures did reach 99 degrees Fahrenheit! We too are very thankful for air conditioning and an electrical grid that has not had a power outage.Phil
Muzza
Annie, we really only get the humidity in the very north of the country and I suspect nothing like what you guys get.I was in Japan during the monsoon season once and they had real humidity like I've never experienced since.Take careMuzza
Julie
It "cooled" off here the past 2 days, although it was in the 90's today. We got a hair over 6 inches of rain on Tuesday night and you can't even tell it! The cracks in the ground were so big, the water just ran in. It's been even drier at hotter at my folks'. They live north of Omaha. They have probably only had a total of an inch of rain ALL summer. It is just awful there. --Julie
AnniekNY
Thanks for asking Muzza - it is amazing how much the temp has changed in the past few hours!!!Still humid but you wouldn't mind sitting outside with a beer right now....
Ecstasy
This is dreadful! I'm a severe asthmatic and we keep getting ozone alerts warning us to stay inside but that's not possible (as you all know.) My doctor's office and ER are full of asthmatics like me who are all having serious breathing problems. I'm keeping a very close eye on my daughters and my grandson, Kevin, who are also allergic asthmatics. Heat is negotiable --- breathing isn't! aggiesjc
In California, we recently had nearly two weeks of 110 degrees. We had about two or three days of 115 degrees (saw Kyle Vincent perform in Stockton on one of those 115-degree days -- outdoors!!) We're back down into the 90s now, and it feels fabulous, but the heat wave killed almost 150 people up and down the state -- for the most part, older people without air conditioning, but also some kids accidentally locked in cars, and farm workers. I sympathize with all of you suffering through the heat and humidity now!
Matthew C. Clark
In Midland, Michigan Tuesday afternoon, it was 98 degrees! Thursday, it was 83 degrees! Matt
mellie
I'd be happy to take some of that - say 25 degrees? Blow some of that hot air up here! This is the coldest summer for me in 13 years. The high was 55 today and some neighbors have fires in their fireplaces tonight. I'll make room for anyone needing a break... any takers? Muzza
Reading what you all have been putting about your temperatures I realised I needed to do a little conversion as we use the celsius scale here. I worked out that your 95 degrees = our 35 which is something we would be unlikely to see here in Feilding. Other parts of New Zealnd do get that high and near 40 on the odd occasionOur average here this week has been 15 degrees = 59 F. Tonight it will be about 6c = 42.8F.Now I am getting some idea of how hot you are (to coin a phrase )And Ira thinks has has problems working out the time here Muzza Keep cool all
julesberry
We survived the heat wave, glad it's over. And we don't have A/C.
MAM
Thank god we have a/c here. Just about 100 degrees for 3 days straight. Without the a/c, I'd have been a puddle by now. Low 70's this morning .... ahhhhhhh!
darlene
After hearing about the horrendous heat where you are, Jen, I knew NJ would be 100 degrees. On the second day of our heat wave, when it hit 104, we discovered that the central air wasn't working. By the time we realized it, there was no chance of fixing the unit and we had little hope of finding a window unit left to purchase for temporary use.I kept thinking *lemonade* though, and we were fortunate to find a 15,000 BTU unit at the last store we visited. After assembling a maze of pieces in 87 degree heat, at half past midnight, Herman had it running. That window unit worked its heart out and cooled the downstairs. Fortunately, a new capacitor solved the problem the next day.The heat was brutal, but we were lucky. Our neighbor said his new state-of-the-art central air system wouldn't cool his house below 85 degrees.I hope everyone else managed to avoid problems. --Darlene
