Kiwi,

Maybe you should give Muzza a few cooking lessons.

There are plenty of easy yet delicious recipes out there, that even he could master !!! wink

Muzza,

I've heard that cooking and doing dishes burns loads of calories. And vacuuming and waxing the floors and doing the laundry and gardening and dusting and cleaning the bathroom and, and ....

:p

thanks James.. I have a few more from the same group. They are Mental Health people who are moving back into the community. I work with them from time to time and am amazed at the artistic and creative prowess of many of them.

Muzza, you've really been having some success! Good for you! How do you feel --- is the dietary change or exercise making a difference in your energy level or your immune system?

Julesberry, great job of sticking it out with the no smoking change! I'm sure your body is feeling quite a bit different already! Thanks for the suggestion of where to go for the bulk spices. I'll take a look at our local health store and let you know.

I must be making some progress because this weekend was the second time I've really exerted myself and haven't crashed or taken a long time to recover!!! I'm setting more reasonable limits on how much I can do and am not beating up on myself if I can't keep up at the pace I'd prefer (of course Speedy Gonzales would have difficulty keeping up at the speed I prefer!LOL) Diane taught me a lot about learning to listen to my body and work with it instead of fighting it and I think I'm slowly converting over to a healthier way of handling my own demands. Baby steps!

Thanks Kathy Lee... I think I feel I have more energy although with the very hot weather we have been having, energy gets sapped away anyway. As for my immune system... hard to tell at this stage.

Last weekend our national Cancer Agency - The Cancer Society - held a 24 hr relay for life which raised $279,000 for our local region which is not a large region. I had the privelege of joining other cancer survivors in doing a special "Cancer Survivors" lap to get the relay started. It was a very special and emotional moment for me and reminded me and how blessed I am to A) have "survived" pray and B) to have Kiwi crying

For me that is my big achievement and weight loss seemed to pale into insignificance for a period last Saturday. happy

What an amazing opportunity. I can only guess what it must have been like for you. While reading your post I found myself tearing up a bit because in a short time you two have become such a wonderful part of my life with the friendship you've given me. I'm glad none of us need to know life without you... most especially Kiwi, your kids, and all those grandkids!!! We lost John's mom to lymphoma and mine to out of control diabetes resulting in congestive heart failure so I know how insidious these diseases can be. Prayers of thanksgiving being offered that you are healthy and happy!

Awwww....so sweet! Glad things are going so well and glad that you got to have that experience at the Relay for Life.

Wanted to share my success for the week--after a dismal week last week--(I had GAINED 6.8 pounds!!--good grief!!)Anyway, I LOST 9.2 this week! My Weight Watcher leader said she'd never had anyone lose that much in a week! A huge portion of it was water, so I'm being more careful with the salt!

Anyway, take care and keep up the good fight!

Wonderful news, Julie, congratulations! I'm glad you found a plan that works for you! (I follow a loose diabetic diet to keep my insulin resistance under control so it won't go into diabetes and that works well for me.)

Keep in mind that the weight loss may not be from salt, though. When you lose fat you also end up losing a lot of water that was trapped. When I had first started losing much of it had been water and the weight losses were larger. After awhile my body began to stablilize and I didn't lose as much water because that was gone but was still losing fat and the weight losses were smaller. By that point you'll begin to notice your losses more my your clothing size and your measurements than by your scale. You're doing just great!

Thanks guys! I've been in Weight Watchers since September this time around. Last week I was totally out of control on the salt. It's funny, cause, I usually crave sweets. Go figure! I had been losing 1 to 2 pounds every week. Then, we got snow bound in the great Iowa Blizzard and I just went nuts! Lol!

I've been eating weird this week, but it really works--1 packet of Quaker weight control oatmeal for breakfast and 1 Weight Watcher yogurt for a mid-morning snack. Lunch has been 1 1/4 cups of Fiber One cereal with honey clusters, 2/3 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce. In the afternoon I have a little cup of yogurt then for supper a couple of baked potatoes with veggie slice cheese and taco sauce on them! Weird! But, I love it! I won't do this every day, but it's a good way to get me motivated and lose fast while not starving. Gotta eat more fruits and veggies I know.

We're on 12 weeks now smokefree. It's great.

I'm thankful that our weather is finally starting to warm up, I look forward to getting out and walking again. I've put on about 5 pounds myself and need to get back on track. Better craving dark chocolate than cigarettes I say. :P

Hang in there gang! We can do it!

Hey Kiwi...excercise,excercise,excercise!

Well, folks, I saw my alternative doctor yesterday and my chiropractor and they both say there's progress! It's s-l-o-w but it's there! The adrenals and thyroid are beginning to respond but they haven't officially kicked in yet. There was a lot of nervous system involvement in December that's gone which is HUGE news so I guess the relaxation stuff is really beginning to work!!! I want to confirm everything with my naturopath but it appears I might actually recover before I'm 90!LOL

Julesberry, you just keep doing what you're doing! You sound absolutely wonderful! I'm so happy for you. My brother told me how difficult it was to give up smoking and it took him several tries. You just sound like you're on to a whole new life now!

Julie, how are you doing this week? Still hanging in there? Spring is upon us with a whole new selection of fruits and veggies to keep you from getting bored (I LOVE this time of year and eat SOOO much better with produce available.) Fruit plates, salads, grilling lean meats and chicken... get creative, girl!<smile>

Muzza, I'm learning the hard way that weight isn't the real issue. Getting healthy is and you're making great choices and getting better all the time. Now how do you improve on perfection? Hmmmm, just ask Kiwi... she does it all the time!LOL

Oh Dear, how sad, never mind... I still haven't lost any weight... that's 2 weeks now. Haven't put any on either though smile

I can see it the exercise thing I need to improve... but I'll start that today as we have a load of firewood to move from the driveway and stack down the back of the section - a whole cord of it to. And its a hot day today insane

Well, my weight won't budge yet BUT my blood pressure is down! That in addition to the nervous system improvement --- I'll take it!

Hey, Muzza, be careful with that firewook, expecially in heat. We don't want you exercising yourself right into a heart attack!
