Ecstasy
Kiwi, congratulations! You've really done well with this! So what's your secret? do you follow a specific plan that works for you?I'm at a plateau or something. I yo-yo up and down by about 3 lbs (fluid count) but I haven't lost any real weight and only 1/2" in appx.6 wks and I don't know why. I don't eat a lot so I'm afraid of cutting my food intake. I'm doing walking, cycling, water resistance... I know I'm toning but it's really strange when people keep telling me I look great and I can't see any measurable difference. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm appreciative, but it just doesn't make any sense to me! Not sure what to do next.
Ecstasy
I lost a pound and during the holidays no less so I'm on track still! The toning is working out well, too. It was enough to finally get me down another size in jeans! How are you all doing?
The Kiwi Connection
Well done Kathy Lee. Today I went back to WW after a 2 week break for Christmas. So it was with great fear and trembling that I stood on the scales (with my eyes shut, of course!!) And lo and behold I'd lost 500gms (about 1lb) and as I said to Muzza
Tim From Wisconsin
Kathy Lee and Kiwi, it looks like you are both still doing great! I hope to come back with only a 1 or 2 pound weight gain.Tim
Ecstasy
When you get a chance get out and walk, Tim. Or find out if the hotel you're in has a fitness room. Don't try to do a marathon workout --- 10 min here, 15 min there, a few laps in the pool --- it should offset what you eat or drink.Kiwi, it sounds as if you've found a system that really works for you. I didn't eat much during the holidays, either. Not sure why, I just didn't have the appetite. I think that allowing myself to have 'this' or 'that' keeps me from feeling deprived. If I want a piece of cake I have it. I just think that subconsciously if you know you can have anything you want and be reasonable about it you don't get cravings and go on binges. You know what REALLY made me feel good? John's family's Christmas party was the 27th. All of the women kept coming up and telling me I looked fantastic. But the two things that really made me feel good were 1) they didn't just comment on my weight loss, they commented that I was glowing and sparkly and looked healthier, and 2) they wanted to know how I did it. Not just for weight's sake, but how did I lose so much and still look younger and healthier. (Remember, I looked very sick and dragged-out when I crashed so this startled them!) And they LISTENED when I told them (they were under the belief that it's almost impossible to lose weight over 35 yo) so maybe it'll help them look and feel better, too. That always make me feel excited --- helping someone else feel better by offering them encouragement to try!
Muzza
I would just like to point out that Kiwi's post above is her way of rubbing it in that I have stalled and haven't lost anything for two weeks. Muzza

Ecstasy
Over the weekend our family decided to terminate our membership with the Y we had been at for 7 yrs and move over to Life Time Fitness. I'm absolutely THRILLED to have been assigned to a trainer who understands the physiology of exercise and how it affects the body for better or worse!!! He understands adrenals and thyroid!!! It appears I will finally have someone who knows how to educate me, train me, and monitor my condition. Yesterday he did assessments, today we begin building the fitness plan. Most of the family has backed out of this process --- everyone but Brian and Annie --- so I guess they'll be my partners. Wish us luck! Ecstasy
My workouts have intensified and death seems imminent. My acupuncturist suggested I eat more and then wait an hour for the meal to metabolize before starting. It worked! I ramped up my intensity by about 30% and my duration by about 50%! Ecstasy
Kiwi, you're doing so great --- congratulations! Let me know how it feels to be back in Aqua Class!Muzza, John wants to know if you ever really did kick up your steps to 20,000? That's just mind-boggling to us!I started my water aerobics class today with caution but was pleasantly surprised to find that I kept up pretty well. I think I'll start with 2x/wk and try to work my way up to 3x/wk with alternating days of cardio and/or rest days. If I can keep up with the water class and not get exhausted I'll move on to weight machines again soon. In the meantime, I've got my two daughters in the Friday morning water class with me, and my daughter-in-law in the Monday evening water class with me! Weight still hasn't budged in quite awhile <sigh> yet I had a compliment today from an acquaintance that I looked thinner so I guess that's good news. <smile>

Muzza
Muzza, John wants to know if you ever really did kick up your steps to 20,000? That's just mind-boggling to us!Yep, sure did. Mind you I was on the go ALL day when those numbers were achieved. Remember that all my walking at the hospital includes some very long corridors and sometimes I went back and forth along those a number of times a day.( One is over 100 yards long) I also stopped using the lifts and used the stairs to get to the various floors.I'm probably only averaging around 11,000 - 12,000 these days. I don't wear a counter any more.Muzza
Ecstasy
Peanut, feel better soon!Muzza, good for you!!! Why don't you wear the pedometer anymore? Geez, mine goes on before my watch! LOL Still, 10-11,000 is a LOT of steps!I don't know why I'm not budging in pounds but I'm learning to let go of obsessing about that. I'm down two more sizes (that makes 8 sizes down on top) in tops lately and the size jeans I dropped into at Christmas (that makes 6 sizes down on bottom) is getting loose so hopefully that'll be dropping another size soon, too. Annie just commented to me this morning that she's achy but really feels good after yesterday's water class and really feels her body has worked hard. I told her this is a grind! missm
Here is something that works for me... EATING FRUITS .......Read this...It could save your life!!We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat. What is the correct way of eating fruits?IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil. So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will not happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach. There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight. When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins. But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-dayfruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top a wards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can you believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold waterwill solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be Absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup, warm water or warm beer after a meal.A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE: (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.

Ecstasy
I need to get back to fresh fruit smoothies for breakfast. I always felt better when I ate that way. That being said, I need to focus on health, nutrition, and weight again. I messed myself up back in April having to take Prednisone (steroids for my asthma) and it's made me gain 11 lbs. I guess I shouldn't complain because last time it was almost 30 lbs so this is an improvement but it's still unnerving and I feel sabotaged. It takes forever to get rid of weight from medications but I've done it before so I guess I need to focus on trying to do it again. Desperately needing motivation and encouragement. I'm really glad Kiwi and Muzza are having such success --- good for you!!!
