Well after trying so many new foods while we were in America the time has now come to lose some of the weight we have both put on. We'll give ourselves a week to settle in at home again, then it's back to the pool and walking in the evenings again.

It was really great to try things we'd either heard about on TV or read in books. We had Pastrami on Rye with a pickle on the side in a Brooklyn Deli, Taco Bell in Chicago, Chicken and Dumplings, Red Beans and Rice, and Grits in Nashville, and Hoagies in Chattanooga, to name a few.

It also took us a while to work out what some foods actually were. For example what you call "Biscuits" we call "Scones", which we eat with jam, (which you call "jelly") and cream, and what we call "Biscuits" you call "Cookies".

I also learned very quickly to order 1/2 or kids portions, and small drinks.

I think the other thing we found amazing was the huge choice and variety of food available.

Congratulations, Julie! Down a whole size! You're definitely on a roll! I've lost 9 pounds since the beginning of summer and writing down every calorie and stopping at 1400 per day is keeping it off. That should solve the "winter weight" problem.

Muzza and Kiwi sound like they have their own version of slimming down. We have a great variety of *fattening* foods here, as you've discovered! I'm SO glad you both had such a fun time--and don't worry--you both look GREAT just the way you are!

Thought I needed to "bump" this thread up!

How are we doing??

I've had a rather stressfull time of it lately and have gained back 10 pounds!!! I recommitted last Wednesday and am doing quite well--of course, having the stomach flu is a huge help!!!

Darlene--great idea to write it all down. At Weight Watchers, that's what we do. I belong to the "on-line" version and we can journal right on their site and it figures it all out for you. Plus, you can type in your own recipes and it will figure out points too.

Well, not feeling well at all, so will have to go. Am spending another day home from work today.

Blessings,

Julie

Here is what I do....I eat a decent breakfast...Egg Mcmuffin or a eggwhite Omlette.

Lunch...a sandwich...on whole wheat bread.

Dinner...A chicken breast or steak with a side salad...all meals with diet ginger ale.[i've been drinking diet pop for over 25 years.] If I feel like having cake or ice cream I have it...but I rarely do..when I do eat them I feel full pretty quickly. I wear the same size pants[31-32] that I did 30 years ago. I also snack on nuts...all the time!

I'm gonna have to give it some SERIOUS attention.Especially with Summer just around the corner. laugh I put on about 6 pounds when we were in America. We couldn't get over the sizes of the portions. We learnt very early in our trip to either order 1/2 or kids portions, or order one meal and share it!!!!

Also the size of you soda's amazed us, your smallest soda is bigger than our largest!!! spin plus they just kept on coming!!! and don't even get me started on the size of your pizza's!!! eye

We did enjoy trying a lot of new dishes, like Hoagies, Chicken and Dumplings, Red Beans and Rice, and BBQ and we loved Taco Bell.I also became addicted to "Old Fashioned Lemonade"

I'm hanging in there. I'm down a total of appx 18 lbs so far. Of course we're still playing games with trying to balance my meds but it's a start and I'll go with it. I'm now wearing several sweaters I couldn't wear for the last two years so that feels good! And John gave me a present for Sweetest Day (we met 31 yrs ago on that day), he got my rings resized for me so I could wear them again --- a full size and a half down!

Thanks, Beth! No, I'm not going to outshine the bride but I am getting bold in my old age. The girls kept telling me to get gutsy and have fun with the wedding so I decided to get dramatic. I designed a strapless gown edged in rhinestone trim and am going to spike my hair ala Sharon Stone a couple of years ago. Besides, I love when my husband kisses the top of my shoulders! psychLuvLove

Kathy Lee, You're doing terrifically!!!! Good for you!

I'm keeping off the 9 pounds I lost over the summer and had fun buying clothes in a size 4 for the first time in quite a few years! :-)

There are still some "places" to work on with different exercises, though. And, it's probably time, with winter coming on, to pare that 1400 calories a day number down to 1300 or 1200 (1250 sounds more doable) wink

But, I'm "hangin' in there." I met two salesswomen in a clothing store and turned them on to counting calories too. They're both lovely to look at, but have packed on some pounds. Soon, they'll be drop-dead gorgeous all over because it really works.

Kiwi - The best way I can describe it is like an Italian version of rolled burgundy steak. I had it one time at a restaurant in Anchorage and they used thinly sliced veal, filled with a mushroom breaded stuffing, rolled up, and marinated in wine. I think it was baked. It was served with a side of fetticcini alfredo. Some people use beef, skip the marinade, and serve it immersed in marinara sauce.

You're on the mark Mellie! Actually it is a round steak rolled up and stuffed with whatever you want it and then it gets tossed right into the sauce, then it simmers for a few hours. Bellissimo!!! Oh yeah.....it's real good. Us goombahs from Jersey know how to do it! Just ask Tony Soprano! wink
