Your weight seems to be pretty stable and that in itself is a good thing! I know you've added a lot of walking and stair climbing. If your weight is staying the same maybe you've hit your set point and are where you should be. (?)

I'm getting nowhere but I'm not obsessing and beating myself up for it as I usually do. There's been a LOT of sudden stressors here over the last month or so and my body definitely wasn't ready for it yet. I hit a pretty bad crash again just trying to keep up with the day to day stuff and really wasn't overdoing it. I'm kind of chemically unstable and my stats are yo-yoing all over the place so I'm just accepting that as it is and waiting for my body to readjust before pushing it to do any more. Maybe next week will be better! Baby steps...

My calorie counting is a bit tedious but I lost 7 pounds! It looked like it was going nowhere, (it would go down a bit then back up) but I just kept focused and persistently wrote down everything I put into my mouth and voila! It took me five weeks.

I keep my "ledger" in the kitchen, write it all down and stop eating when I reach 1400 calories for the day. Treats on weekends, but I don't overdo it. When I didn't see instant gratification, I was tempted to give up. I just constantly dwell on how good it feels and looks now that the jeans that were tight are actually loose! *That's* motivation!

Nicely done, Darlene!!! I journal what I eat, too, but for different reasons. I don't keep track of calories but rather keep track of my glucose numbers. I can't explain how many times I've been able to adjust my diet for the day or find out what's happening to my body just by looking back at the past few days and seeing

what went wrong. For example, I have to keep my carbs in line if I don't want to develop diabetes (my mom and her mom both died from it.) If I had a salad for lunch then I know it's alright to have some potatoes or rice as part of my dinner. But if I had pasta for lunch, then I should be aiming for more vegetables and protein for dinner. This method has kept me in the non-diabetic range for 4 yrs now. It also tells me what's going on in my body. If my numbers have been high for a couple of days then I know I'm either getting sick or am overstressed in some way (right now it's the heat that's overtaxing my body.) My compliments on your journaling and getting such successful results!!!

No, not a professional, but I do take it seriously. I've watched John's grandfather and my grandmother lose legs to gangrenous diabetes. I watched a beloved cat die from hypoglycemic seizures from diabetes. I watched my mom die horribly from congestive heart failure from diabetes. It was at that point I announced I'd walk in front of a train first but I was NOT going to go out like that!!! pray ) For as long as our bodies can handle it, we want to remain insulin/prescription-free and do this with diet and exercise. If the point should come that our bodies need more than that then we'll do whatever is necessary but we're NOT copping out with a pill or a shot and then just doing whatever we please with no accountability!

  • 2 weeks later...

Congratulations to both of you! I'm kind of on hold until I get back home. The heat is causing me to hold a lot of fluid (my theory is that my body is smart enough to try to keep me from suffocating and dehydrating in this godforsaken desert!!!) I want to get back to Chicago where I hear it's in the low 70s (as opposed to 107)and I can stop feeling like an overfilled water balloon!

Ok, folks, I got brave and got back in the water today! pray I worked deliberately slowly so my heart rate wouldn't get up too high and exhaust me. I was able to do a resistance workout for about an hour and a half. I'm only working on toning now, NOT strength training or aerobics. I'll build into that later. I was able to do exercises in increments of 100: leg lifts (front, side and back), scissors, fans, ab crunches (shallow water for now), and water walking. I used water shoes and webbed gloves for resistance but didn't add anything like water weights. John stayed on top of me to make sure I didn't overdo. I couldn't believe how much I miss this and wanted SO MUCH to begin training again but knew it was entirely too soon. crying Well, we'll see how I feel tomorrow and if I end up crashing or not.
