Rich From PA
I don't lnow if you'v ever heard of the Brit pub-rock band, Brinsley Schwarz, but it had two major popsmiths in their ranks, Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm. Some of their stuff is little rootsy, but always melodic and always has a hook. They did the original version of "(What's So Funny About) Peace, Love And Understanding".Other highlights include "The Real Thing", and "I Like You, I Don't Love You".Check them outRich
marvin
Great band. Wasn't Graham Parker also involved at some time?Marvin
Rich From PA
Marv:I know Brinsley Schwarz was the guitar player in Graham Parker's band, the Rumour, but I don't think Graham played with the Brinsleys.Rich
wimvriezen
You're right Rich, and I love their song Country girl (from the album Despite it all) from 1970.
Billy K.
Another group from the UK pub scene at that time was Ace, best known for "how Long".....I think Gomm had one solo chart hit in the U.S., whose name escapes me, as well as an album called "Gomm With the Wind"And Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind" was co-written by Gomm. popdude
Ian Gomm's hit was called "Hold On." Great tune...Paul Carrack, later to appear in Squeeze (he sang "Tempted") and other bands was Ace's lead singer on "How Long."
