My good friend...The fabulous DianeD made me aware of the fabulous benefits of Priceline's "Name Your Own Price" feature when she booked a hotel room for the "Raspberries'" Cleveland concert and she stayed at a great Radisson Hotel.

Since then I have named "My Own Price" 5 times when travelling to see my daughter in Florida or attending out of town concerts and have averaged $60 a night at 3 Star hotels.

I thought it might be "cool" for all of us to share some more ideas for saving money.

Here's one!

At many supermarkets they reduce the price of meat significantly if they can't sell it after "TODAY".

You can buy it immediately and cook it that day or freeze it.

Trust me...I have saved hundreds of dollars this way.

If you guys 'n gals have other money saving tips....Share them now or forever hold your peace. wink -Ira.

Ira, as an ol' NY guy, you'll appreciate this.....

When I was fresh out of school, young, single, broke and living in Manhattan, I knew every "Happy Hour" place from Wall St. to the Upper West Side that offered a free buffet.

I'd nurse one beer for two hours while "eating-out" in NYC. Dinner and a drink for a few bucks (aaah the early eighties). There were taco nights, cocktail weiner nights, sliced turkey nights, pizza nights, etc....

Did you know when an item at the check out supermarket scan wrong, this item becomes free to you. All supermarkets have this policy but will not automatically enforce it unless you request it.

At my local supermarket, when I go through the cash register, I monitor each scan and one time, I end up getting 3 (yes 3!) expensive meat packages free because they scanned wrong. Tonite I got a free coolwhip!

Ira, our local Wal-Mart will match competitor's ads. It takes a little extra time to go through the ads when you make your shopping list, but I can't tell you the money I've saved when I take the time to do it. Plus, it saves you from going to several different places to shop.

Ira...When you come to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct. on Monday to see Bobby Vee, you can stand at the slot machines with a change bucket and get free drinks as opposed to having to spend a ton on drinks inside the Wolf Den...This may be the case at all casinos...I'm not certain...the waitress will come over to you and take your free drink orders...also, as a technical note, the sound is not very good for shows if you are seated at the side tables...If you are not a high roller or have comps for the tables/booths in front of the stage, you are better off standing at the bar...There is a standing area against the ledge directly in front of the bar where the sound and view are excellent and the other cool thing is that you dont have to wait in line to get in...There is a little entrance to the bar area that is seperate from the admission line...(Not that there will be any line for Bobby Vee...You, your bride, myself and any direct descendant of the Vee's...Although with a name like "V" there are some people that might

think he's a rapper and may show up...)

There are several radio stations in the area that offer gift certificates at half price. They vary from local restaurants to salons to day spas to golf packages, etc. They are usually $50.00 certificates for $25.00 and if they aren't sold out in a certain amount of time they reduce them even more! Great Deals.

I buy coupons and entertainment gift cards on ebay to places I like to go and eat. Some of it is even healthy food like salads and Subway sandwiches.

I also do the Sunday paper grocery coupon thing, organize them, then I wait till some of the stuff is also on sale at the Vons, Ralphs, Albertsons... Then Bam, I walk out of there with $60-$70 of food and cleaners for maybe 20 bucks tops!

But it takes at least an hour in the grocery store to find everything, so you have to make the time...

Me and the Mrs. have been to Vegas 5 times in the last 6 years with either free or cheap rooms at nice hotels, by actually doing that timeshare presentation thing. Sometimes the 2-3 hour presentation is grueling, depending how aggessive the salesperson is...But my wife and I just start a mock argue about money and "Maintenance Fees" in front of them and that shuts them up and we get our gifts...

YEAH Tony!

I'm goin' to Fort Lauderdale for 4 days at a Ramada later in July...(and seeing my daughter)...and on a 2 day cruise to the Bahamas... Just for listening to a "Timeshare Shpiel" and I'm planning to "Just Say No" to Ramada's Timeshare presentation.

I do want to tell you though that I do own a Timeshare which I enjoy tremendously and use consistently-Ira.
