marvin
Just wondering if any BBs'fans (other than Andy) is familiar with the work of Jeffrey Foskett? Jeff has been in Brian's band for about the last decade, and in his solo work, he truly captures the sound and feel of the BBs' pre -"Pet Sounds."Marvin
Rich From PA
Marvin:I have several of Jeffrey Foskett's cds and, basically, if you like the Beach Boys, there is no way you won't like Jeff Foskett. He has captured the sound, the production values, the harmonies of the Beach Boys. He also writes with people like Marshall Crenshaw, so the songs don't lack for hooks.Hope this helpsRich
aggiesjc
Hey, Marvin! There's mention of Marshall Crenshaw, and thanks to you, I now know something of the guy's music!
Brian Mac
Marvin, Just got Jeff's newest "Stars in the Sand." There's some great Pop and Surf music on there. Although, it's not really in the BB's vein, if you're looking for some really great new pop music check out "Paparazzi" by Jamie Hoover/Bill Lloyd. These guys all hang out together with Foskett and Crenshaw and produce incredible stuff. Other recommendations...Swag "Catch All." Fantastic mid period Beatles, could have been the follow-up to Rubber Soul, but with today's technology. If you don't like it, I'll send you a check. The Shazam "Rev 9" Raspberries meet The Beatles. Same guarantee!
marvin
Brian I've got a couple of Bill Lloyd's cd's.Rich, where have you been hiding?Marvin
Rich From PA
Marv:I've been checking out this website almost daily for several years now. I have always been a fan of power-pop and the Raspberries were the ultimate purveyors. I was lucky enough to see the Raspberries and speak with Eric and Wally at the Joint In The Woods in Parsippany NJ when I was 16 (fake id, natch).I have a large collection of power pop artists and groups and continue to be on the lookout for new stuff.I'll be in New York for the 2 shows at BB Kings. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of the other board members.Rich
Brian Mac
Rich, have you checked out The Shazam or Blue Cartoon? Really top notch stuff. The Finn Brothers new one is outstanding too. "Hang on Mike" by Candy Butchers (Mike Viola) was also wonderful Elton John style singer songwriter Power Pop via the 70's best.
Rich From PA
Brian:I've got all the Candy Butcher cds, Finn Brothers, all the Crowded House stuff, as well as Swag and all the Bill Lloyd cds. I just picked up Paparazzi but have not had a chance to listen to it yet.I have not heard the Shazam or Blue Cartoon, but from your description I'll have to check them out.Rich
Brian Mac
Rich,The First 2 songs on the new Finn Brothers kill me. The place to start with Shazam is "Godspeed The Shazam." It really is Raspberries meets Beatles. As far as Blue Cartoon go with "The Wonder of it All." You will love them. Can you recommend something that will blow my socks off?MAC
Rich From PA
Brian:Check out Splitsville - Pet Soul; Hudson Brothers - So You Are A Star(Best Of)andthe Idlewilds - Dumb, Gifted & Beautiful.Listen to these and you'll need an all points bulletin to find the whereabouts of your socks.Rich

marvin
Tommy Dunbar of the Rubinoos *almost* contributed to the 'post-Reflections' effort.Marvin

hbecstacy
Hey gang,Here's a wonderful Beach Boys homage I found as a free download on Amazon. "When U Find Someone" is by Ken Stringfellow, formerly of the Posies: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00074QH4C/qid%3D1110407218/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/002-2881364-6214444 or click on: http://snipurl.com/stringfellow Well worth the download time!Howard
popdude
YES! That Stringfellow tune is one of the best Beach Boys homages I've heard in years, and definitely the highlight of the album...
popdude
I have all Foskett's stuff and most of it is quite wonderful. He's a heck of a nice guy, to boot (used to live about 3 blocks from me). I had the opportunity to watch Jeff record his version of "Your Very Eyes" for the SHOE FETISH tribute CD I produced about 4 years ago and it was amazing. The guy works so quickly, pretty much doing it all himself. And those vocals! Wow...
marvin
What's the deal here. Is this an entire Stringfellow album? He's a very talented performer and I loved most of his stuff with the Posies. Isn't he now with R.E.M.Marvin
hbecstacy
Marv,Ken Stringfellow is still with REM as a sideman on guitar and keyboards. He's not a full member. He also records solo. This track is from a full-length CD (you'll see it if you download the track).I believe the Posies still get together for the occasional gig, and last I heard they were still working with Alex Chilton in Big Star.Howard
Sally G
Hudson Brothers rock! Mark Hudson now performs "So You Are A Star" at the Fests for Beatles Fans... sends chills up my spine and I tear up... He actually had to be coaxed, begged, and practically bribed to do it, that's how humble he is. He thought people only want to hear him cover Beatles and Lennon tunes!Even better than that is when he performs "Working Class Hero", the uncensored version. Can't wait until April to see him again!Joyce
marvin
Hey why shouldn't Mark do "So You Are A Star" at Beatles fests? I've always felt that it is THE epitome of a Beatles song that the Beatles never did. Marvin
Sally G
Marvin,Mark thought that Beatles fans didn't want to see him perform Hudson Brothers tunes, only Beatles or Beatles solo tunes. He didn't think the interest level was there... that's what I meant about his being humble. He's such a Beatles fan himself (which he always tells us, he's one of us) that I think he underestimates just how appreciated and admired Hudson Brothers music really is.After several of us convinced him to perform "So You Are A Star" and he saw how wonderfully received it was, he'll continue to perform it at future fests I'm sure!Joyce
