Tony Cartmill
Let's start singing the praises of "She Remembered". What a wonderful song it is...Marvin will go crazy and have to post his opinion.
hosskratz
Here's a little trivia for all of you. Michael Brown was the singer and main force behind the Left Banke. Years later, he formed a group called Stories with Ian Lloyd, a singer who he was introduced to by his parents. Although he had left Stories by the time, it is noted that Stories opened the famous Carnegie Hall show in New York, so there is a Left Bank/Raspberries connection. I agree, Raspberries would do a killer cover of Walk Away Renee, a song that is a true masterpiece.
Billy K.
Yeah, WHY? Marvin seemed to be the most enthusiastic and knowledgable person....and seems to be a really great guy...I've been away from the board for a few days....and have no clue of what's going on.......plus I haven't had any personal e-mail from Marvin lately, either. If it is something that any of us said or did, whoever did that, please apologize. And, Marvin, if you are having other kinds of problems that have nothing to do with the Raspberries, I feel for you. This past year has been a rough one for me, in a number of ways, and I have had to cut back on a lot of things. It's really killing me that I have been not been able to go to any of the concerts, because, under normal circumstances, I would have been to at least one of them.Marvin's reports have been excellent and inspiring, and it comes at a time when I need to hear something positive. Craig Benfer
Marvin, I wish we had met. I hope everything is alright. I will definitely miss your posts. Like all of us, I will be looking forward to your return, and I still hope I get the chance to meet you someday.
JuliaAllByMyself
Marvin ~ I am really upset that you won't be part of the Message Board anymore. It won't be the same without you. Please come back. You're an important, loved and respected part of the EC.com family. I, for one will miss you terribly, as I know everyone else will, too. I respect that you have your own reasons and I hope it's nothing bad or sad. Please don't hesitate to come back when you're ready. We will welcome you back with open arms. Take care. darlene
I'm not exactly sure what's happened with Marvin, but whatever his reasons are for leaving temporarily, I'm sure he'll be back. There have been some lively (and even heated, and outrageously contentious!) discussions on the board, but Raspberries and Eric fans are very very passionate about the music, and, as with any public forum, things can get a bit wild. I can't imagine Marvin having gotten upset by anyone's post, considering he has always taken my chidings about his negative comments with good humor.Marvin has indeed been a committed member of the board. JuliaAllByMyself put it very well: EC.com really *is* like a family. I hope whatever put him off, he will come back. Every single person at EC.com is important. (ALL 500+ of us!!!) When I sold Mary Kay cosmetics (oh, horrors, yes, I was a "Mary Kay lady"!), the first thing they taught us was that everyone wants to feel important. For some people, the need to feel important becomes a motive or an end in itself in all they do. For others, if anyone else gets attention, they get upset. Nothing like that has ever come to light on this board, and it's probably because we haven't focused on the importance of any one individual here, but the results of everyone's collective efforts--and WHAT INCREDIBLE RESULTS we've seen! Since last June, one dream has come true before our very eyes--not just once, but THREE times! I just know so much more is just around the corner. I would just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone just for being YOU, and helping to make it happen! Everyone counts here and on Raspberries.net! If something did happen with Marvin, he has reasons for what he's doing, but there are always (at LEAST) two sides to every story, and I'm sure there's a lot we don't know.I can't imagine Marvin leaving, though. --Love, Darlene
darlene
PS Does anyone know if he's still planning on producing Post-Reflections and giving them to the band (and those who submitted them)? I can't imagine him not finishing them. I can't imagine ANYTHING that would precipitate such a strange turn of events. --D
Billy
I will miss Marvin's posts. What a great guy. Perhaps he is working on a book with all the great stories he has over the past few months.
Billy
If Marvin leaves, he leaves with 2,818 posts, the most in history. Marv, can we offer you a one year deal so we can get that 3,000th hit?

darlene
Thanks, Jeff. It has been interesting to observe Marvin's evolution on the board. He and I had some interesting go-rounds (as did we all with Marvin), about many of his negative comments. After attending the Reunion concert, a totally different Marvin emerged! I sat directly in front of him (he sat next to Marlene), and I reached back and grabbed their hands every time a new song started! Marvin was in his glory after that. From what I understand, he was in constant daily contact with Dave, Kay, Wally and many of the fans on the board. I hope he works through whatever is bothering him.--Darlene
AnniekNY
Hi ya everyone - I will spend my five minutes sitting at the computer speculating this: because marvin, the ultimate fan, has had the band access exactly as darlene outlined above, he can't just get online with us and chat anymore. He knows too much!! He might spill stuff we're not supposed to know yet! But, maybe, as marvin said himself in a recent post, he's more of a Raspberries fan and an outspoken critic of Eric's. Who's website is this?? Eric's. So - possibly, if marvin is going to spend time online in a forum, it will be on the Berries board? just a thought.annie
Poor4Life
I just wanted to let all of you know, that when I started this thread it wasn't something that I just decided to do to stir things up. I spoke to him about letting everyone know, and he gave me his permission to do so. I don't think he's angry at anyone (he doesn't seem to be one to hold a grudge)Hopefully he'll change his mind and return...Jeff
bahoodore
Well, there have been many postings about Marvin not being around the board these days. One new board member is asking why the Marvin-guy is soooo important that he gets over 60 postings!Well for those new people out here, perhaps I can shed some light.I have known Marvin for over 30 years now. He grew up in a family where music was probably the only thing that helped them get through the day sometimes. Everybody in his family played music and sang...his father had a great voice! As the years moved forward, Marvin also became a huge music-collector/historian. When his Dad died, Marvin was still a young man , and he went off to work to help support his 3 sisters, mom and baby-brother. So strong was his love for music, that Marvin got involved in any musical project that was going on in his home town. He and I played in many bands together, and Marvin was always the one organizing it all. We did stage shows, church halls, hotels, countless charity events (most of which he organized),benefits, and clubs.Through all of this, he was highly involved in church stuff, including being director of several choirs, and being involved in board functions. To add to his schedule Marvin did night classes to study jouralism. His dream was to become a Music journalist....this is why he is such a great writer. He gets the facts right and offers up critic-like opinions, with integrity, I may add. Through all the years, I have never known Marvin to be anything but passionate, in everthing he does, and it shows with all the stuff he has done on this board and at the Berry events. I will not speculate as to why the big-M is not hanging around these parts. All I can say is that if he ain't aroud, then you can bet that he must be doing it because he has a passionate good-reason.You new people should look at the archives and read some of his stuff, and see all the work that he did to encourage, promote the Berries and the Berries board. Many others here have contributed immensely, (Bernie of course, darlene, even Cartmill...lol) to this board and site....but I have to say Marvin did it in his own way, and like the others, shared it for all to see. LostControl
Very well put Andy (sorry I forgot about you) - maybe Marvin has moved on to something else, but he's been a big part of this board too.Hopefully some of the rest of us can pick up the slack and do Marvin proud. I'll keep on about WD no matter what! I know Eric can do better, he's proven it in the past. Now we just have to keep pestering him until he makes another album.Hey Michele, it's going to get complicated with the two of us around here! I bow down to you - you are the first Michele! mannoman
Excellent insight into the man, Andy. I am trying not to bother him right now to let him sort things out. That doesn't mean I have forgotten him. His passion for music, the Berries in particular, is a joy to see, hear and read. However, I suspect some might feel theatened by it. Just my take - could be wrong - I hope so. Having roomed with him in Chicago, it confirmed what I felt, he's a class guy.Ted
oldblue
I met Marvin for the first time in Chicago, and made a brief visit to Jeff's after-concert get-together at the hotel. Marvin seemed to be a great fellow -- very cordial and extremely well-versed on musical matters. It's been mentioned that he was critical of Eric's work at times, but I got the feeling from what I've heard from him and read that Marvin's comments were more from passionate concern rather than any maliciousness.New that I am to this forum, it didn't take me long to detect Marvin's importance and impact here. I'll be looking forward to reading his compiled "Reflections," and hope he returns soon.John

AnniekNY
Andy and Ted, yep, having had the priviledge of meeting Marvin twice - I couldn't agree more. Passion is the key here with Marvin - pure and simple. I loved every thing he wrote because of it - even if I don't agree (I Can Remember!) with every word! That's the spice of the board - respectfully agreeing to disagree.annie

Tony Cartmill
It all reminds me of that episode of "Gilligan"s Island" when Mr Howell watches everybody give him a wonderful funeral when they thought he died in the quicksand...Marvin, "Lovey wants you to sell a million shares of Amalgamated."
