When I started my "Great Sandwiches" thread I was eager to hear suggestions for great sandwiches to make at home.

Then the "Tangent Police" e-mailed me to let me know that "PA Steeler Fan" and "Hollies65" took us on a fabulous tangent as they sang the praises of ""Primanti Brothers" of Greater Pittsburgh and more recently Florida.

Wellll! today my daughter Mira and grandson Benjamin visited "Primanti Brothers" on 901 North A1A in Fort Lauderdale for corned beef for me and turkey for Mira.

What great food!

What a fun place!

Thanks guys.

I was thinkin'...How's about postin' great places to eat when visiting your respective cities?

EC.Com has always been a great resource for travel ideas, shows to watch, and much more than just music.

Feel free to share local places you would recommend as well as franchises you've enjoyed.

For instance I LOVE the Upscale Chinese Food franchise..."P.F.Chang's!

All-right EC.Commers...Belly up to the bar with some suggestions for the soon-to- be published. "E.C.Com Guide To Fine Dining".

I breathlesly await your culinary suggestions.

Signed.."Hungry I"( haha ra)=Ira.

Ezra's in Bradenton - the owner/chef used to work at one of the swanky expensive eateries in Longboat Key. This guy comes up with a very ecclectic menu - lots of home made soups, great specials (he makes a killer blackened filet sandwich with sweet onions and tomato chutney) their hambugers are to die for... and lunch is only between $8-$13 which is a steal for the kind of food you are getting. Dinner gets a bit pricier and even more interesting. The decor is interesting as well - they have local artists paintings and sculptures in there - probably from the Ringling School of Art - and they are always playing smooth jazz or some other funky music in there. It's relaxing you don't have to get dressed up - and you get great food.

An 80 year old tradition in Montreal, Schwartz's Deli:

http://www.schwartzsdeli.com/

Some of the reviews:

"A Beef on Rye to Freeze to Death for!"

- Financial Times of London

"The best place in the Milky Way to sample smoked meat sandwiches!"

- Time Magazine

"When you're in Montreal, you must go to Schwartz's"

- New York Times

"A Montreal legend for 80 years. So what's the big deal? It's the viande fumé that overwhelms two slices of rye."

- National Geographic

Cantors in L.A.'s Ruebens..you can't finish them.

I would much rather go to a place that FEEDS you rather then place art work on your plate and force you to stop at McDonalds on the way home...

Good luck if Larry King is in there as he is everyday. He'll chew your ear off.

Cafe Du Monde is of course historic, and the most famous "must stop" food destination in the Quarter, but the only thing to eat there are the beignets. A great insiders eating spot would be the 'Port Of Call'...the absolute BEST hamburgers in the world. It's a dive...but ask the locals...THE BEST!

Thats the best way to do it...Steve. Ask the locals. i (forgive me for admitting this) used to date Emeril Lagasse and every foo foo restaurant he sent me to in N.O. gave me the trots. I'll take the dives anyday. There is one in particular I really loved, but the name slips me. i'll call him. If your ever there it's a must do.

Being on the road for more than 35 years I have food from everywhere. In the US some traveling hints:

Best Corned Beef in the US Hands Down No comparison = Slyman's in Cleveland @ 31st & St.Clair. Nothing can touch it

Steaks = Frankie & Johnnie's in NYC, tested by the compleate road crew and certified.

Best Ribs = Gotta be Montgomery Inn in Cincinnati

Best Fajitas = Alamo Cafe in San Antonio "unbelievable"

Best Chicken Fried Steak (also known as Heart Attack on a plate) = Jailhouse Cafe in San Antonio

I am such a dumb ass, you are right on the money with Frankie and Johnny's. Does anybody remember a show on Food Network called "Ready, Set, Cook?" My ex husband and I were on and he had, at that time, a little known chef that he cooked with by the name of Tyler Florence as his partner. Mine was a chef from N.Y. that till this day, never really made it big. We were the tomatoes and they were the peppers. When it came time for the audience to judge and hold up their pictures, it was all tomatoes and 1 pepper. I still rub it in. My friend that brought us on the show is the one that went to work on his first day at Cantor Fitzgerald in WTC tower 2...on 9/11/2001.
