Name Your Fav Childhood Lunchbox

I know most of us all had them growing up - what was yours and do you have a photo of yourself with it (like my mother who made us take a photo EVERY 1st day of school until my junior year in high school OMG)....

My lunchbox was a black patent leather like - Francie & Barbie Lunchbox from 1966 - had a friend just buy me one for Christmas a few years back lol.

Mine was a brownish plaid. Actually didn't look bad at all. No pictures, thankfully. Seems most pictures were only taken at the beach in the summer, so if you want to see a collection of swimsuits.....

We got to go ho-o-o-o-me! If I couldn't walk to grades K to 6, I rode my bike to 7 and 8.

Not anymore though, what with busing. There was a huge baby boom in the '60's here, so we had a school around 5 minutes away for almost everybody, and longer lunch hours. Most kids were not in the Catholic system.

But I have seen lunch boxes at re-sell stores go for a pretty penny. like "Scoobie Doo", and they are collectors' items! Those were for mostly private and Catholic Schools.

I didn't take a lunchbox to my Catholic grade school..

What happened was the female members of the faculty (usually the young hot ones) would each take turns inviting me to their offices for lunch. There, behind closed doors, they'd have me lay down and they would finger feed me (not sure why, but grapes were always the main menu).

And this baffles me to this day:

After feeding me grapes, the hot female faculty members would sweet talk me into letting them paddle my bare behind... even when I hadn't done anything mischevious!!

I was a tough guy...lol. I wouldn't be seen dead carrying a candy - ass lunch box! LMAO. Only kidding guys. Actually, I lived right across the street from my grammar school, so I would just cross the street and go home for lunch. :p

...probably a little off topic...but did anybody have classmates who would take out of their lunchboxes the most disgusting sandwiches known to humanity?

I remember kids taking tuna salad (with mayo) out of their hot lunchboxes hours after it was placed in there.

I also remember kids who would have toasted sandwiches at lunch...certainly a good 5 hours after they came out of the toaster.

Anyhow my fav dessert was funny bones or snowball cupcakes out of an Archies lunchbox.

My Mother who was born in Germany would make Braunschweiger & onion sandwiches, when I complained she she would make liverwurst or kalbsleberwurst.

I would toss it out and eat my Little Debbie Swiss cake roll by unrolling it; along a with carton of milk that I could never get opened right.

This would be packed in my red plaid lunch box with a red bow she tied on it to keep it closed.

I have to laugh. You just beat me to it. I remember brown paper bag lunches and bringing the bag home to be reused until it was ripped or had holes in it, then we'd get a new one. Yes our names were on it too to tell them apart.

I do remember a black shiney lunch box with somebody on it, but I can't remember who. I then 'graduated' to the brown paper bag. I also had to bring that home, neatly folded, of course, to use for the rest of the week.

I was never allowed to buy lunch at school because we just could not afford it. The only thing I bought was a container of milk which was four cents !! I remember my mom going out every Saturday morning to buy cold cuts and rolls. She would always ask for the "ends" of the cold cuts because they were cheaper. She then spent a few hours cutting the rolls and putting ONE slice of ham or baloney in the roll. That was it....no cheese, no mustard, no mayo.....nothing else.

Then she wrapped it and then froze it. When Monday rolled around, she took out a frozen sandwich and plopped it in the bag. I remember that "clunk" sound so well when that frozen roll hit the bottom of the bag !! By the time lunch time came around, the sandwich was thawed out, but dry as hell !! Thank God I had my 4 cent container of milk to wash it down !!

lol - did all you people have those fold-down metal benches and tables that were housed in the auditorium but went up against the walls when not in use? They were on wheels as well because I can remember sometimes if everyone on the row moved back and forth we'd get it rockin lol.

My lunchbox was actually very cool! I had a "Secret Squirrel--Atom Ant" lunchbox! Still have it and it's in wonderful condition. I saw one like it on ebay that was all dented and rusty a few years back and it sold for $65.

My brother had an Apollo one. I'm not sure which mission though--I'm sure he still has it. We also had a Yogey Bear one.(good grief! How the heck do you spell that???!!!!)

Our school had it's own lunch room with the picnic type table/benches. I carried my lunch until I was in junior high because I was such a picky eater.

Being a very cool Mom, I wanted to make sure the boys had the best lunches.

I bought the crisp brown bags... 500 of them,

I made beautiful thick sandwiches, chip bags, homemade cookies and juice box....

They wouldn't use the "gay brown bags", they would dump it all in their backpacks or use an old plastic grocery bag.

When they made their own lunches, it would be spagetti in a ziplock bag

or something as equally gross

We're using these Walmart fibre bags now, with plastic little containers and Glad bags. Pity one son stuffs his veggies in his locker, but the teachers told us they have to have "healthy" foods. At least we go for natural juice and not pop.

PB&J is banned on account of food allergies in one or two of the kids at the school, and some kids who hail from thin kin don't eat that much! Until they turn 13...

I remember a Campus Queen one with little round magnets to play a game on the back. (Who'll be prom queen or something like that.)

I also had a Peanuts one that had cartoon strips along the side.

Did you guys have your sandwiches wrapped in wax paper? That was back in the day before Saran Wrap. Oh boy! Nice dried out bread for lunch.-mmmm..yumm!
