Well-deseved honor!I still can't get over the cruelty of how rock stars were ripped-off in the 5o's and 60. For co-writer and lead singer Mike Smith to NEED a benefit at B.B.'s to pay for his survival following his tragedy is a disgrace.I can still see him singin' and smiling and girls screaming on the Ed Sullivan Show.There is no "BECAUSE",no excuse for a seminal rock figure like Mike Smith to have to bear this double burden.

the DC5 along with Cat Stevens, Miles Davis, John Mellencamp, Blondie, the Sir Douglas Quintet, the J. Geils Band, the Sex Pistols, Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash, the Stooges and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Talk about an oddball list, but hey isn't that what the RRHoF is all about?

When I was about five or six the DC5 made an appearance at a local movie theater in my neighborhood. I was on top of my mother's shoulders as they ran out of a limo, across a movie stage, waived to the screaming girls, and out the other door! That was the extent of "the show" (it was free!). I remember it being so loud, I thought my ears were going to pop!

When they made an appearance at the Capitol theatre in Passaic NJ, I was about 5 and their limo pulled up next to my parent's car at a red light in neighboring city, Clifton.

I was in the back seat and was freaking because the limo, as it pulled up, I saw American flag and Lumberjack flag in front of the limo! I thought it was the Beatles and was screaming my head off!! The guys rolled down the window and were smiling and laughing and waving and then the light turned green and they were gone!

Was like a scene out of AHDN! My mom kept telling me to calm down, it wasn't the Beatles, but I didn't want to believe her. She told me the next day that she saw in the local newspaper that the DC5 had appeared at the Capitol the nite before!!!

I still can't believe artists like Chicago, Linda Ronstadt, Moody Blues, The Hollies, and even Ringo, have been passed over once again!

Funny that George, Paul, and John are all in as solo artists, but Ringo has been forgotten about, and the California contingent (Eagles, Jackson Browne, CS&N etc) are also all in, yet Linda R is ignored. Jeff I also agree that the Moodies, Chicago and the Hollies especially deserve recognition.

And if I recall correctly, Mike's son drowned shortly before his accident. Poor guy, he has been through a lot.

Wow, it seems unimaginable to me that Chicago, the Moody Blues, the Hollies and Ringo Starr have not been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They each appear to me to have the body of work to have earned this honor by now. Personally, I have seen the Moody Blues nine times in concert, and they have given incredible performances each time before a large fan base. Does anybody have any idea why all of these musicians continue to be overlooked for this honor each year?

I always thought ELO whould have at least gotten a nomination as well. There are a lot of politics involved. I once read a quote from Jan Wenner that as long as he was on the selection board the Moody Blues would never even get a nomination because he does not care for their music which is absurd. The first 7 Moody albums were very inovative for the time and I remember when TO OUR CHILDREN's CHILDREN'S CHILDREN came out it was considered a major event on the "new" "underground" FM rock stations.

I know the Moody's are just a shadow of theirselves now but for the late 60's in to the mid 70's they should be in the hall for sure.

THe Rock Hall is a sore point for many of us in NE Ohio. We campaigned to get it, put up a lot of the funds and have only had ONE inducties cermony here. The yo yo's in NY say its because Cleveland is not a major media market BUT if the event was in Cleveland it would be the front page story in the Cleveland paper not buried as it is in the NYC papers as so much more is happening there AND it seems major leauge baseball can have their party in Cooperstown NY, not a media giant in any way so something else is going on.

I had the rare pleasure of being on a show in Merriville, In with Mike Smith. The bill was Mike Smith, Mark Lindsay & Gary Lewis & the Playboys. I played with Mark & Gary. I was able to go to the venue early to catch Mike Smith's soundcheck. Mike Smith sounded great! His band was a different story! I'm a huge fan of DC5! They were running thru "Try Too Hard" at soundcheck. One of my faves!! It's so tragic of what happened to Mike Smith! It seemed like he was gearing up for a comeback. It's wonderful that the Rock Hall is considering them!!!!!!

There,to me, are very few British singers whose remakes of great soul songs rate with or outdo the originals. I think Mike Smith and the DC5 doing You Got What It Takes and I Like It Like That (along with John Lennon"s lead on Twist And Shout and not his Stand By Me) rate as GREAT reinterpretations (and they're really fun too!)

I saw Mike Smith's Rock Engine at BB Kings in NY in June 2003, and it was a great show! Mike still had those great pipes and all of his chops intact. His accident was really a tragic shame. It's about time the HOF considered the DC5......Now, if only someone can talk Mr. Clark into releasing their material properly on CD finally.....John O.
