austinberries
O is almost universally regarded as one of the greatest & most well-informed orators we've seen since, well, Hillary's husband, so this instance would be a rare exception to the rulePalin on the other hand, is fast becoming regarded as intellectually vacant, cutthroat, right-wing Alaskan lunatic, w/ a dash of Brittney Spears thrown in for good measure. Biden will eat her alive in a debate& puppet? O? you gotta be kidding, right? W defines the tag with cringing, embarassing accuracy. never have so many regretted voting for such an incompetent president..
Tony Cartmill
Sarah will hold her own against Joe "Tow The Party Line" Biden. He has about as much charisma as...well...John McCain. And the wheels keep spinning in the mud...
hollies65
Obama is a "stumblin, bumblin" when not reading a teleprompter. Got his clock cleaned in every Dem debate.

Absolutely hilarious -- but also scary as hell. Tony, H-65, I'll remind you guys again: Casting a vote for McCain doesn't mean you'll get to sleep with Sarah Palin... no more than your Republican votes in 2000 and 2004 got you that beer with George W. Bush in a local pub. I do admit, though, that Sarah has a certain appeal, as hockey moms go. But then... she starts answering questions in an interview. LC
In other words, you Republican types have got to stop using that ol' 2nd-grade tactic.... "Is Sarah Palin qualified to become vice president, never mind president in the event of, God forbid, McCain getting hit by a bus?" "Barack Obama don't have no experience! What's he done? Community organizer?""That wasn't the question...""Maybe not, but it should be! What has Barack Obama done? He ain't done nuthin'!" Blah, blah, blah.... It's tiresome, James. Tiresome. Even when you do it....
James
"What has Barack Obama done? He ain't done nuthin'!" Ahhh, I see you've gained wisdom LC . I knew it would eventually happen. Any guy from the class of 1977, who digs the blonde girl from ABBA, and who loves Boats Against The Current as much as I do...that guy's allright in my book, and definately has potential.. Thanks LC, I didn't know that. I'll take your word for it though as I know you learned the hard way. It must have been very disappointing to get your hopes up in 1992, only to find out after the election that Tipper Gore put the wife veto on Al sleeping around with starry eyed campaign supporters. Oh well..Anyway, thanks for the heads up.. PS: You're welcome. Just wanted you to realize what your McCain vote won't get you. PPS: Oh, and it wasn't Al I was after. It was Tipper! JohnO
My 2 cents - Obama is grossly overrated as an orator; reminds me way too much of a WWE wrestler cutting a promo. Pro wrestlers are also adept at getting crowds fired up at just the right moment...yet most would get lost if they forgot their canned scripts. My guess is Obama, likewise, wouldn't do so well in a debate....although against McCain, he won't have to! Palin vs. Biden? I'd rather watch paint dry! Biden's far and away more intelligent, but he doesn't know when to shut up, and he's flat out boring! (Rumor has it they haven't put out a Joe Biden Action Figure yet because they can't get the hairplugs right, and it won't stop talking after you pull the string!)A pox on both of their houses!!! (Leaning more and more nowadays toward not voting at all this time. Which is worse, sitting out the election in protest over the choice of candidates, or voting for a ticket which you deep down cannot stand? - which is BOTH of them, in this case!) austinberries
>>Sarah will hold her own against Joe "Tow The Party Line" Biden. He has about as much charisma as...well...John McCain"charisma"? this is the problem, americans vote based on it, like a high school popularity contest. & btw, Biden has not been a tow-the-party-line Dem, he has always tried to push the Dems (or Congress) in stretched directions, much like McCain has w/ Repubs (& Congress)>>Tony, H-65, I'll remind you guys again: Casting a vote for McCain doesn't mean you'll get to sleep with Sarah Palinthis is the funniest & most apropos line i've read yet about her!! again, high school popularity standards>>Got his clock cleaned in every Dem debate."clock cleaned" - gr8 phrase hollies, i'm gonna start using it. but r u ready to cry uncle yet? the gov is now buying WAMU to flip in a firesale, in the continuing saga of economic-meltdown. all goes back to Repub deregulation, starting w/ Reagan, continuing w/ Bush, & then W & Co really opened the floodgateare any of y'all being affected directly (ie: your pocketbook/job, not stocks, etc) by all this as we speak? it's gettin' pretty damn 'yikes' out there.. AnniekNY
oh, gentlemen...I just saw a clip of Sarah Palin speaking to Katie Couric in an interview to be aired in its entirety tonight.Talk about scary...she did not answer the question posed to her and she stammered through what I think was supposed to be a coherent response. "Deer in the headlights" describes her non-blinking expression. I have no idea who to vote for. NONE.
hollies65
Trying to pin the present day financial meltdown, which is tied to the subprime meltdown, is silly and shows a lack of true understanding of the problem. Of course partisans will be partisans.
hollies65
Basing your vote on how a VP candidate answers a question from Couric is crazy. Vote for either Obama [Who really knows anything about this guy?] or McCain [Easy one..either you like him or not...everyone knows all about him.]
mellie
are any of y'all being affected directly (ie: your pocketbook/job, not stocks, etc) by all this as we speak? it's gettin' pretty damn 'yikes' out there.. There has probably been some degree of effect, but in the grand scheme, I haven't been affected that much from what I can tell. I didn't like being a government employee making half the salary of a private company worker doing the same job. I didn't like mandatorily paying union dues, only to see my benefits cut in half in five years, no pay increase three of those years, and a measley 1/2 of 1% pay increase each of the other two years, while the union office staff received 6% cost of living increases every year. I didn't like being a single person and paying the same health coverage premium that a coworker with a husband and six kids paid because the premium was based on the total number of employees and their dependents and then divided by the number of employees, so all employees equally shared health premium costs. I didn't like my employer taking 13% of my income and putting it in a mandatory retirement plan that they controlled, and in five years seeing every penny of my money disappear because they invested in the wrong things and lost all of my money. Sure, I took the job. I didn't get all the facts first. My bad.Well, I made a career change, I put in the long hours of hard work, I earned extra bonuses when the boss challenged us, and I made the decisions about where and how much to invest. In the last five years alone, I've realized a 55% increase in income and I'll be damned if I'm going to give credit to any politician, political party, or president for my successes or my choices. I DID IT! I am still very much a part of the lower middle class. I just don't blame someone else whenever something happens in my life that didn't go my way. It's called personal accountability. That used to be the standard in America. Not anymore. I realize that everyone has different financial setbacks, challenges, struggles, and situations, and many people's problems were beyond their control. I'm just saying I don't agree with holding elected officials accountable for mistakes made by business owners, other people we entrusted, and yes - sometimes ourselves.Oh - and austinberries - thanks for asking. I needed to get that off my, um, chest.

JohnO
AnniekNY - "I have no idea who to vote for. NONE."Agree 100%! This is one election where there needs to be a NONE OF THE ABOVE box to check. My guess is it might win! (Per a poll earlier this week, as much as 20% of potential voters are still undecided this late in the game....way too high for only 6 weeks til the election! Another hefty chunk appears to be much more interested in voting against one of the candidates, as opposed to for their choice...)Mellie - Great post! As I mentioned on another thread the other day (the one that started with a Bill O'Reilly diatribe/video), pundits who preach personal accountability as a doctrine until they're blue in the face, and then turn around and try to blame things like the Wall Street fiasco on elected officials, govt. oversight bodies that have been stripped of power and resources, or anybody and anything BUT the businessmen, financiers, and investors/speculators who caused it, make me physically ill...... LC
Mellie, you rock! Good going, my friend. Very astute post.JohnO, I'm not a Barack fanatic, but... I just can't let my vote land on the side that could give us a "President Palin." It just wouldn't be right, IMHO.
Billy K.
It's too bad that we can't dump the other two, and keep Obama and Palin.
JohnO
Larry - Assuming I vote, I most likely will vote like you do. Nonetheless, I can't help but continue to be amazed at the nominating process that has, over the years, given us the likes of Goldwater, Mondale, Dukakis, Dole, etc. - candidates who have no chance in Hell of winning a general election....and, Obama, who might possibly be the only Democratic candidate in the world who could lose the '08 election. He still has a good chance of winning, but he should be sitting on easy street now, with a 20 point lead in the polls, instead of slugging it out. His lack of experience (which was a valid issue long before Palin appeared on the scene), career in academia (and appearance/rep as an egghead), and, let's face it, race, truthfully all count against him with a much larger number of voters than we'd care to admit.....as some polls have shown. Are there so few politicians out there that it's impossible to nominate one without all the baggage?I'm also amused and, at the same time, disgusted by the Presidential campaigns that start out with both sides proclaiming they won't take the low road....and which degenerate immediately into a contest over who can dig up the most negative things possible, or, failing that, make up the most negative things about their worthy opponent! I don't think I've seen a non-negative TV ad addressing this campaign in months! For that matter, just check out the posts and threads on this board regarding this election. For every post that says something positive about McCain or Obama or Biden or Palin, there are probably 20 that are totally negative in tone. To quote my father - "In every election, there may not be candidate that I support...but there's usually an SOB running that I absolutely have to vote against!"
AnniekNY
Hollies, i am NOT basing my vote on what a VP candidate says. I have to consider the VP choice when I vote, however, don't I? Because that person has the real possibility of becoming president!!!!! So the reality is just what JohnO's father spoke about - I may have to vote against, rather than for, a candidate because of the VP pick. What a waste. hollies65
Always vote for the top of the ticket...that's who is going to run the show. There is a BIG difference between Obama and McCain...whether you like either candidate, their ideology contrast is pretty stark.
