Merv Griffin Dies

Surprised no one commented on Merv Griffin's passing today. I always really liked his show because of the wide variety of his guests. I really love the shows that Eric appeared on. He always seemed relaxed and Merv seemed to geniunely take an interest in his work. I think Eric was on three times.....not sure if the Raspberries ever appeared. Anyway, he seemed like a very nice man.....and his type of talk show is sorely missed these days.

Merv was the true meaning of "Success"!

First he was a successful singer, then a smash talk show host, then a genius game show creator and producer, then a monster real-estate mogul who out-trumped Donald Trump...

And all along, he remained a nice guy who just about everybody has fond memories about...

Well done Merv, WELL DONE! crying

I thought you might be confusing Mike Douglas with Merv Griffin, but after checking out this websites archives, it seems you are correct.

And I believe his first real commercial success was a novelty tune with a British accent..."I've Got A Loverly Bunch of Coconuts".

My brother David loved that one.

And Arthur Treacher was his Ed McMahon and was a "Pi--er" with Merv.

I believe my mom told me that he had been real heavy and had to slim down to go from "Radio Days" with an orchestra to TV.

Yeah I liked him too.-Ira.

That is so creepy about Mike Douglas and Merv dying that close together!!!!

We had Merv on in our house too - every day. I still remember seeing Eric on that show, watching it by myself on my folks bed so I could just revel in it.

He was such a talent in so many ways!!

I'm sure you guys must have the bootleg Raspberries DVD. It's got tons of their live appearances, videos, interviews, etc. On it Eric appears I believe three times on Merv. The first time was when his solo album came out. Then he appeared during the BOATS album. The next time was to promote CHANGE OF HEART I think. He's wearing that 40's looking suit and voiced his disappointment that BOATS didn't sell better. He was great all three times, and Merv was really nice to him. I remember one of the appearances, Eric kept flicking his cigarette ashes into the ashtray about every 20 seconds! Those of you who have this boot should check it out.
