Raspberry Rick
Surprised no one commented on Merv Griffin's passing today. I always really liked his show because of the wide variety of his guests. I really love the shows that Eric appeared on. He always seemed relaxed and Merv seemed to geniunely take an interest in his work. I think Eric was on three times.....not sure if the Raspberries ever appeared. Anyway, he seemed like a very nice man.....and his type of talk show is sorely missed these days.
Razzy
Oh, that is sad news. I really enjoyed watching Merv everyday after school. I remember when Eric was on, I taped the show on my little cheapy cassette player/recorder. Wish I still had the tape.

hollies65
Merv was the man!! I watched all the time after school in the early 70s. He was the only show that booked Josie Cotton. R.I.P
blackhawkpat
I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and was someone that I really admired. I still have his autobiography that he personaly autographed. I watched the Larry King special on him tonight and I miss his humor already. A vastly underrated talent. Sherberries
I grew up watching Merv's show, with my mom and really enjoyed it! Sad news, indeed.
Tony Cartmill
Merv was the true meaning of "Success"!First he was a successful singer, then a smash talk show host, then a genius game show creator and producer, then a monster real-estate mogul who out-trumped Donald Trump...And all along, he remained a nice guy who just about everybody has fond memories about...Well done Merv, WELL DONE! I thought you might be confusing Mike Douglas with Merv Griffin, but after checking out this websites archives, it seems you are correct. ira
And I believe his first real commercial success was a novelty tune with a British accent..."I've Got A Loverly Bunch of Coconuts".My brother David loved that one.And Arthur Treacher was his Ed McMahon and was a "Pi--er" with Merv.I believe my mom told me that he had been real heavy and had to slim down to go from "Radio Days" with an orchestra to TV.Yeah I liked him too.-Ira. Poor4Life
In the tributes to him on the networks this weekend, I found out that he was also a classically trained pianist. He was a talent.Jeff
ira
I found a real good article on Merv in today's New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/13/arts/t...amp;oref=slogin Enjoy-Ira.
blackhawkpat
Most people don't know that he wrote that little piece of music when the contestants are thinking of their answers on "Jeopardy", too.

Kirk
Marv--I'm not sure 'collector pile' is treatable, but you probably should look into it --Kirk.

darlene
In the days leading up to WAB5 and everything else, I didn't even realize it. I missed it. I really enjoyed Merv and loved his show when Eric was on. Merv was a show business biggie and he will really be missed. --Darlene
JuliaD
I'm pretty sure I have video of Eric on Merv (well, on his show, lol!). He had just been married and between Eric and his wife, there was enough hair to cover Cleveland end to end. It may have been Mike Douglas, but I'm thinking it was Merv. AnniekNY
That is so creepy about Mike Douglas and Merv dying that close together!!!!We had Merv on in our house too - every day. I still remember seeing Eric on that show, watching it by myself on my folks bed so I could just revel in it.He was such a talent in so many ways!! Tony Cartmill
On the clip I saw, it seems Merv was asking Eric some intelligent music questions. So, unlike Letterman, Merv did a little research on his guests.
Raspberry Rick
I'm sure you guys must have the bootleg Raspberries DVD. It's got tons of their live appearances, videos, interviews, etc. On it Eric appears I believe three times on Merv. The first time was when his solo album came out. Then he appeared during the BOATS album. The next time was to promote CHANGE OF HEART I think. He's wearing that 40's looking suit and voiced his disappointment that BOATS didn't sell better. He was great all three times, and Merv was really nice to him. I remember one of the appearances, Eric kept flicking his cigarette ashes into the ashtray about every 20 seconds! Those of you who have this boot should check it out.
