Ideas For Christmas Gifts

One of the most common questions that plague us at this time of year is what to get people. I thought maybe we can post some of our gift ideas to help each other come up with ideas!

Slipcovers for a son and daughter-in-law who are moving and looking to spruce up their living room.

An electic roaster and an electric skillet for a son and daughter-in-law who are always looking for economical meals to make.

A bed set, curtains, toss pillows, and area rug for a son needing a bedroom makeover.

The kids and I all pooled our money to get John a large HD tv.

A pedometer for a young friend wanting to improve her fitness.

I'm shopping very slowly to spread things out over a few paychecks so I'll offer up more ideas as I get them accomplished. Let's hear your ideas!

My daughter and son-in-law just bought their first home so I'm looking for something there that they'll need... maybe I can sew her window treatments! Their boys are so proud of their new room. I'm considering sports bedspreads with matching sheet sets and curtains.

I'm stuck with what to do for my other three grandkids. (?) And my father-in-law! AARRGGHH!

I found what I think is the coolest website for babies! I'm ordering a CD for my grandson. It's lullabies--but not the usual lullabies--it's the Rolling Stones! It has "Paint it Black" and "Under My Thumb" along with several others. I can't wait to hear it!

They also have Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Christmas rock versions.

I was addicted to MTV when my first son was born in 1985--back when they played music. Some of my friends gave me a hard time for letting my kids watch it, but they've turned out fine and they're quite the music lovers! When they were little we danced all over the house to my albums and tapes--all I had to do was turn the music on and it was like a party with just me and my boys! smileLuvLove

OMG! I'm LMAO picturing "Under My Thumb" as a lullaby. I personally would love to hear "I Wanna Be Sedated" & "Baby Got Back" as lullabies. Nothing like singing "I like big butts..." to a baby. laugh

I'm one of those people who doesn't like giving cash as a gift. I always pick up on clues and keep in mind what people's likes and dislikes are.

Captain, I'm with you usually... in fact I've often prided myself in finding that certain something that will blow the gift-getter away because of my ability to tune-in on the unsaid... but I really do believe that this year Cash is the perfect gift... more and more people are finding themselves shorter of cash than ever before, and the greatest toy... the coolest gadget... the hippest fashion... nothing can come close to having a few extra bucks in your hand to go buy the exact thing you want... or food, if that's what you need most...

But I agree with AnnieK too... be wary of Gift Cards... Cash is still the best way to go, but if you don't trust cash... maybe in the mail, or whatnot... then I suggest a universal gift card... Master Card or Visa that can be used anywhere over a card limited to one store or restaurant, even though some are tempting you with a variety of deals. IF the place shuts down, you've just thrown away your money... and their gift.. frown

I had a bad experience this week with a gift card ,I'll buy American express or Visa gift card this year.

I have no good ideas this year, I did buy tool chests and I guess I put some tools in them.Duct tape electrical tape, the things they are always searching for... I have no idea what kind tools they want.

I did buy Charging stations for their nightstands, It has a drawer for keys and their wallets and cords to plug in all the necessities of life.

I need ideas for men !!!

We've done concert tickets with our kids or amongst each other and those have been great! (Last year was Aerosmith and Trans Siberian Orchestra.) I think this year they're into experimenting with hockey games and basketball.

I know that so many of our (collectively) kids are being hit by the economy. I can't tell you how many times I've fallen back on getting them the basics --- sweatpants, tees, hoodies just to help them get by for another year. We've also gotten them groceries (or grocery store cards), home center cards, and things for the house.

Bump - Time to go shopping for presents!

We usually buy gift certificates from the local restaurants for our relatives. My mother-in-law looks forward to receiving them. She takes her friends with her and they have a lovely lunch together, I think her friends actually look forward to them more than she does.

We also make donations to local charities for those who are hard to buy for. We make a donation in their name. These charities are appreciative of this. My boss does the same thing.

There is really nothing I need or want, but I do have a penchant for chocolate, vacations, Super Bowls and Stanley Cups! So every year he will make a donation to the local food bank in my name.

I also have a favorite charity and at the risk of ruffling some feathers, it is the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded grants to police and fire departments to the cities of their regular away game opponents. Just a few days ago, his foundation awarded a grant to the Boston police department, Last year, his foundation awarded a grant to someplace called Cleveland... for a new K9 dog.

Just a couple of thoughts!

Every year we invite our two daughter-in-law's parents for Christmas. I like to give them little gifts just to make them feel welcome. This year I'm knocking off an idea that my mom did for me her last Christmas with us. She asked what I wanted and I told her my kids were forever stealing my socks so I wanted socks! She said socks weren't a gift but I was undaunted that I wanted socks. She took a clear, plastic shoebox and filled it with a dozen pair of white cotton bobby socks that I love. Six of the pairs she slipped in a different scented shower gel to help me relax (and then put on warm socks afterwards.) She never did believe that this was one of my favorite gifts ever! One DIL's mom works at Walmart and is on her feet all day. The other DIL's mom just got out of the hospital and is housebound a lot. I think I'm giving them Mom's idea with boxes of socks and gels and a pair of slippers to make them feel good!

I got a Great deal today !

I found a Ralph Lauren Cashmere navy/black Sportcoat for my oldest. I'm thrilled because it's so hard to find talls I wind-up paying any price they ask, this was marked way way down ! This is so soft and lightweight it's perfect for Florida, I wish I could have found another for my other son.

I love great finds, it makes me want to keep shopping.

Thanks for all the great ideas - keep them coming!

Kathy Lee,

That is a really neat gift. I love warm fuzzy socks.

One year, I put together baskets using Aveda products. I put hand cream, shampoo, body gel and, and moisturizer in a basket for each of my sisters -in-law. I used to work with Aveda products. Their products smell so good and they are made from plants.

Beth, I love great finds too! I found a really neat pair of shoes a few weeks ago. I am waiting for all this snow to melt so I can finally wear them!

I'm a CASH girl...however, I do fun things with the cash. Like...get it all in small bills place it in a box and wrap it up, or place money in a pouch and hang it off of a bottle a Champagne or for my late boss' widow when she remarried, I took a vase and shoved a bunch of bills in the glass base and put a rose in it for the new couple. They had to break the vase to get the cash but said it was fun doing it.
