Do I Stay or Do I Go?

Thanks Steveh! That was my thinking exactly! With their interesting history, you know that there's a bond there that can't be faked or rehearsed! I'd LOVE to see Aerosmith. I don't know that I'd cry if I missed seeing KISS. I don't have a lot of energy to expend, and I wanted to make sure I was expending it in the right place. I've never seen them in concert, which is why I was asking. I'm fighting a bug right now, but hope to be up to speed (as best as I get!) by the concert date!

As long as we're talking about folks we'd pay to see, what do you think of REO Speedwagon? I adore them! They remind me of college, and they're from Illinois, as I am! I always thought Kevin Cronin was a cutie! **g** I also drooled all over myself when I saw Dennis Elliot (Foreigner)! Lou Gramm got the voice, but Dennis Elliott got the "cute" factor! (Kiss of Death, I know!! But dang! When he stood up! Adorable buns!!) (You know, Dennis was the first "drummer" crush I ever had. May have led me to Randy? Who knows?? **g**)

I love NRBQ but I see them in town all over the place. I used to, anyway! They are hilarious, but they're also very talented! ("Captain Lou, Captain Lou Albano. . . .") Gotta love 'em! (I "gotta," anyway! Music and humor -- what more can you ask?? They are severe trips, each and every one of them! Gotta love 'em!! spin

P.S. Billy Squier opened for Foreigner when I saw them, and he was -- explosive!! Hard to ignore, I'll tell ya! (Got his CD!) I saw him standing on the walk, right before getting in the bus, BUT! I do not "gurm." Beep's Lifelong Rule!! wink

Hey Beep,

REO Speedwagon, you ask? One of my very favorite groups, right up there with EC, The Beatles (early), The Who, Van Halen (with David Lee Roth), B-52's, Kansas, and Styx. Later this month, REO will play on same bill as Journey and Styx in State College, PA! I saw REO, Styx, and Survivor on one night about 18 months ago. REO's ballads are second only to Eric's. You have good taste! smile

Beep,

Speaking of decisions...Paul Rodgers, Foreigner, and Kansas are playing in Pittsburgh next Wed eve - but it takes about 2.5 hours for me to drive to Pitts. - I'd get home real late, then have to be at work by 9:30. Is it worth it?

Steveh, If you like them, it's ALWAYS worth it, work or not! And 9:30 isn't THAT early! Beep, if I had the chance to see Aerosmith, I'd BE there! What an opportunity! I consider Steven Tyler, like Eric, to be so gifted. He's another person for whom music wasn't something he chose--it chose HIM. Always liked REO Speedwagon too. If you are feeling better, definitely go. You'll feel even better after seeing Aerosmith!

PS, Bernie, I stopped hitting the return key. It's an old habit from typing, but I'll try to remember so it doesn't mess up your format...

Hi Beep- and anyone else who gets the chance! You must go see Aerosmith! They are the most awesome rock concert band. I went to their New Year's Eve concerts in Boston more times than I can count. I met Steven Tyler one time (he's actually quite small) and he was very cool and friendly. "Dream On" is one of my most favorite songs! They got their start in New England so we feel very possessive of them here. Most of the guys live in Massachusetts still. Let me know if you go and what you think...

Greetings Kristina! Thanks for the push! I'm definitely going! (LOVE buying tickets online! **g**) (Plus I know a VIP at Ticketmaster, which doesn't hurt when things get "sold out!" NowuddImean?? ;-} (So okay, he works in their computer programming department, but he's WAYYYYY up there, administratively! Met him when I worked at the TPAC building here in Nashville. He's in Florida now, though. But just an email away!)

--> I was wondering -- who was everyone's first concert ever?? I was a late bloomer, but I saw ELO when I was 15, and they were AWESOME! I also saw RUSH, three times. I'm sorry, but to me, Neil Peart is an absolute genius. Got his newsletter for a while. Genius stuff. Saw Fogelberg. LOVE him! He asked for complete silence as he did an acoustic of "Run for the Roses," some IDIOTS sqealed at the tops of their moronic lungs, and Fogelberg got P.O'd. Badly. So did I!! Saw Pink Floyd. Sober. Felt drugged when I left. Fleetwood Mac. Christine McVie and "Songbird" -- OMG! WHAT an experience! SO many!

Okay, I'll stop for now. Mustn't rile Tony. Little putz can get MEAN when he wants to!

So, will wait for replies. Thanks for your patience with me, everyone! Love you all! (Even Tony! wink )

First Concert.....Seals and Croft, 1974 I believe.

Beep, I love Dan Fogelberg, he is doing an outdoor concert here in Columbus in June. Can't wait. Also, speaking of good shows, in August, I believe the 9th, Hootie and the Blowfish, Tonic, and my favorite band, The Clarks www.clarksonline.com all at Nashville Colloseum...Tickets 3 whole dollars. After that show, the Clarks will remain in Nashville to record their latest CD with producer Justin Niebank...do you know him? He is very talented, produced their last two releases.

Funny you should ask Marvin, we just had a thread over on the Clarks site about how one would go about describing the band.

At time, their style resembles the Beatles, other times, Tom Petty, Lead singer Scott Blasey kind of reminds me of Pete Ham from Badfinger and some stuff off of their latest release sounds a little Badfingerish, They are heavily influenced by Tom Petty, and The Replacements, still do some Replacements covers. They are described by their lead singer Rob James as "Three Chords and a Cloud of Dust" Most of their material really rocks but their latest CD "Another Happy Ending" was written post 9/11 and has kind of a more mellow sound.

They are a fun group and incorporate some sarcasm into their music ala Bare Naked Ladies.

Some critics have compared them to the Goo Goo Dolls, but if you listen to their catalogue, they sometimes have a country sounding edge in some of their material.

Rob James is outstanding on lead guitar, and their drummer Dave Minarik reminds me of Jim Bonfanti and givesit all he's got. The best part about the Clarks is they are absolutley flawless live. Extremely fun shows. They have an almost cult following. I run into their fans from Pittsburgh, Cleveland and all around at their concerts. Some of us have travelled 500 miles or more to see them perform. I will be travelling to Pittsburgh(four hour drive) on June 28th for their annual homecoming concert 14,000 people, it's a great time. then later this summer I will be going to Nashville for their show.

Check out their multimedia site at www.clarks.com a lot of their music is posted there as MP3 and Real Video files. To listen, is to love.

A few other tidbits about the Clarks. they have been together since 1986. they have a massive catalogue of CD's some of which they market themselves on their website but more recently Razor and Tie Entertainment is their label. They are managed by Brickwall who also rolled John Mayer out of the closet and made him a household name. Hopefully they will do the same for the Clarks.

It is absolutely amazing to everyone that listens to them for the first time that they have not made it big. Let me know what you think if you check them out. Also, their site has a great message board. A few trolls that should be ignored but the rest of us regulars over there are very friendly and a lot of us have met at shows.

Later,

Kevin

Hi Kev! Sounds like a Thursday night Dancin' in the District, which could be hard for me to maneuver, I'm afraid. Every Thursday night during the summer, we have one. As I've mentioned before, Delbert (McClinton) is a staple at Dancin'! They used to be at Riverfront Park, but just moved to the Coliseum. Not sure how that is gonna work!! I could make it one night, who knows?? spin

Beep, first concert for me was the Beach Boys in the late '70s, when I was about 12 or 13. Next concert will be Fleetwood Mac (though minus Christine McVie), in July.

The Beach Boys, wow! I LOVE them! They have gone through so much, and continue to sound wonderful!

Regarding Fleetwood Mac -- no Christine McVie? I've seen them since they re-grouped (TV), minus Christine, and while good, it's just not the same. . . . I don't know the story behind her absence? Can anyone fill me in?? (It will still be a wonderful concert, I'm sure! They are all so talented!!)

Hey Julie, Darlene, and Beep!

Thanks for the advice. And the tickets are really cheap (10, 20, or 30 bucks!). As for my first concert...I'm sure it was when I was in college, and it was Dave Mason...or was it the Outlaws...or Kansas..I was told that I was at a Santana/Eddie Money concert!

Yo Kev! And all! Yep, The Clarks are definitely Doin' the District! Here's more info on the entire season for anyone who's interested -- http://www.dancininthedistrict.com/ditd_main.phtml

I've tried to listen to some clips, but they won't load for me! I've got several means of listening; the files must be really big? Are they?? Or is my DSL just too slow?? Thanks Kev!! wink
