Raspbernie
While I realize that everyone just clicks on stuff in agreement without really reading what they're agreeing to, I thought it might be a good idea to remind you of the Message Board rules you have to agree to before you're approved as a Member here at EC.com (with particularly pertinent passages in bold). And yes, there will be a pop quiz on all of this tomorrow!- - - -"Considering the real-time nature of this message board, it is impossible for us to review messages or confirm the validity of information posted. Jerry
I've had this thought a number of times, and this is as good a opportunity to suggest it as any... some of the people who post on this site need to startup their own websites, have a forum to feature their pointless thoughts and mindless drivel, and turn Bernie's website back over to him and Eric Carmen/Raspberries fans.I have no idea what it costs Bernie to run this site, but I know it cost hard cash to archive almost ten years of information. Seeing some of these off the wall topics and crazy responses must annoy him to no end, although I suspect he has too much class to mention it here.Seriously, some of you people need to get together and start your own website. Pitch in with the start up cost, and run it yourselves. Call it what ever you want. You have a great start at recruiting members. And this site can turn back into what it was originally supposed to be... a tribute to Eric and his music.

raspathens
To go in the direction suggested by Jerry, Bernie would need to delete several of the posting group options, such as "Everything". Maybe it is time to return the website to the original premise. I've often wondered how Bernie keeps this site going, monetarily and otherwise. I'm not so sure I would generally characterize off-topic remarks as "mindless drivel". Maybe it is time for Bernie to narrow the scope of the site, if he thinks that's the best course to take. hollies65
A website like this is a passion...I know where Bernie is coming from. I'm sure he enjoys this place, and is very proud of it. The rules Bernie posted really take care of everything.
hollies65
The political discussions are the perfect counterpoint to the music discussions.I mean, checkout Eric's Ron Brown link...that's fascinating stuff!
MJ
I agree with all of the above. I think things have gotten a bit out in left field lately. It's up to Eric and Bernie - after all it's their site - and I know it costs a lot to run.
LC
I'm pretty sure most people here know what Bernie is referring to. Bernie, you're very diplomatic and classy, as always. A lot of us might have taken the "mindless drivel" that seems to gone out of control lately and nuked it.This is a great, great site not only because of the Eric and Raspberries news and info and background, but because of the discussions on politics (I have become even more of an EC fan, believe it or not, because of his thoughtful, common-sense posts on so many political issues) as well as sports, culture, society... and even the plights of baby boomers and beyond. Reading about the challenges faced by people from the same era can be thought-provoking, humbling, and even helpful.... I also appreciate the multi-media section, and the Press Archives is awesome (not just because a couple things I wrote in the past showed up there!). And... who can forget Eric's book club? Required reading....Of course, it's music first, and there's still plenty of that going on here. The "Come Around and See Me" section has turned me on to all kinds of good clips and songs.So... in summary: * Jerry, kudos to you for this comment: "...Some of the people who post on this site need to start up their own websites, have a forum to feature their pointless thoughts and mindless drivel, and turn Bernie's website back over to him and Eric Carmen/Raspberries fans."* Those who are carrying on those "drivel" threads might respond, "Well, don't read the threads." What happens, though, with so many of those threads, it makes it tougher to find the good threads. They get back-burnered on the "ACTIVE TOPICS" page, which is usually where I start out when I check in. I almost wouldn't mind if there was just one thread that was titled "Mindless Drivel," where all the goofy flirting and inside jokes and off-the-wall banter can be contained. It would easier to ignore. But, in easier solution is to see it disappear. * Bernie, bravo to you for your cool, calm, and collected web mastership. Best wishes to all....--Larry

BeatleJay
Some good points made above. Much better than the reading I was doing last night. Bernie is very diplomatic. I would blow a fuse, I think. It must be trying at times to remain level headed around this kind of bickering BS. Thanks again Bernie, I'll try to keep my a-- in line. Raspbernie
Here's another way of looking at it.Let's say, for instance, that you're a huge Beatles fan. So, you search the internet for a website that celebrates the music of your favorite Fab Four lad, Paul McCartney. You log on, become a Member, and lo and behold, you discover that not only have you found many fans like yourself who love and admire the musical genius of Sir Paul, but Paul himself is answering questions from fans like you on the website's Message Board. There he is, just like a regular bloke, posting inside stories about recording the Rubber Soul album at Abbey Road Studios and talking about what inspired him to write amazing songs like "Helter Skelter," "Hey Jude" and "Here, There, and Everywhere." So, understanding the unique opportunity you have where you can go face-to-face with one of your heroes, you post...about your a**.Just something to think about. Muzza
Firstly thanks to Bernie and Ted and Diane for the job you do as moderators. At times it must be very frustrating for you. While I respect Jerry's comments I think we need to remember that some of us are unable to discuss music and it's nuances at the depth of others. Yes, we enjoy what others post and it gives great insight but when one can't read music, play an instrument or even sing in tune to not have a Section like Everything could exclude us from participating, leaving us spectators. What it does remind us of though is that we have a responsibility over the content of what we post. I have to say that if it wasn't for the Everything section Kiwi and I would never have got to know people well enough to want to come to WAB in 2007. For us Eric and the Raspberries and the music are the heart of what brings us to the board BUT in many ways, Everything has been the soul of the "familyness" of the board.Again thanks Bernie for tidying this up and to everyone here, let's enjoy Eric's music AND each other in a sensible way.Muzza

And while someone who might make her a** a major topic might be a relatively new member, it does takes at least two to tango. Conceivably, long-time members should perhaps have shown maybe just a hair more restraint. (Could I possibly have qualified that any more than I did?) No offense to any of our longtime friends, but there was definitely some feeding of the fire. Be that as it may, I still tend to start my day here. marvin
Larry's point is justified: there are some of us (I'm as guilty as some others), who 'feed the fire.'I also understand where Kiwi and Muzza are coming from: if you are on this site only because you love the music, but feel that you can't contribute to some of the more music-themed discussions, the "Everything" area is your solace.
