Tonight's the night, it's gonna be all right!

I'm looking forward to the draft.... I did get word from Tunesy that he may not be able to make it, so I think he'll rely on Autopick... unless he can break free.... S

Otherwise, see ya'll there!

It will be a few days before we can sign players... the way it works is simple... you find the player you want on the free agent list and then choose one to drop... unless he's one of Yahoo's "no-drop" guys... like the top 40 or so players by ranking...

Then... the dropped player goes on waivers... and anybody can pick him up... based on the rank of their waiver claim number... if nobody claims him after a couple of days, he becomes a free agent again and is up for grabs..

Hope that helps MI

Any time you do make a waiver claim, your spot falls the sixteenth, though, and everyone else moves up one.

Free agents can be "signed" and immediately put on your roster, but only used the next day.

If you drop someone to waivers, anyone can claim them once the waiver period expires, except the person who dropped them. If for some reason you wanted that player back (maybe an injury to another player might cause it) you have to take him as a free agent.

Two years ago, Tom Glavine was one of my players and Yahoo erroneously listed him as out for the season. I dropped him and the next day, they wrote he was out for 7-10 days. I tried to get him back and it would not allow me to and someone else claimed him because I could not pull him back from waivers. That's an extreme case, but be careful in trusting the yahoo notes.

Rick,

Put another way:

* When you click on "Players," you'll see the complete list of available guys.

* If they're marked as a Free Agent, then yes --- it's first come, first served. You can go in and pluck a Free Agent anytime.

* If they're marked as being on Waivers, you can put in a claim, as Paulie and Pat noted. If no one above you in the waiver order (see the standings for waiver order) puts in a claim, you'll get him. The player you highlight as the one you'd drop will go on waivers....

* All players that are cut have to clear waivers, which is 2 days. Once they clear waivers, they move to Free Agent status (first come, first served).

What a costly draft for me! My computer was completely down, so I had to go to Kinko's to participate. Thanks for the tip LC. Anyway, at twenty cents per minute, I had nearly a forty dollar bill to cover draft day. Got most of the guys I was after, but sadly just missed out on a couple of favorites. mad LC- how many closers did you wrangle in? What about you Mitch? It looks like LC, and Mitch have nearly half the closers in the league.

Looking forward to having a blast again this year.

I got a bunch of closers, and two or three could be pried out of me.... I think I'd like a little more power, so if anybody is strong in HR hitters, call on me....

PS: The Kinko's bill... well, look, it's a small price to pay for the fun you get out of fantasy baseball, right? It was just about your only option that night....

I was surprised how fast the closers went, having only played 4x4 (no strikeouts) previous to this, where they are really important, I thought they would last a little longer in this draft, well, I got a couple. This was a fast paced draft, not sure how you guys had time to chat. It was a great time tho, not sure about my team (other than the pitching sucks, which is normal for me), let the games begin.

Closer is the craziest spot. Last year, only seventeen teams had the same closer the entire season.

I thought I was set when I drafted Joe Nathan and BJ Ryan with early picks last year and then Ryan blew out his arm in the second week of the season! I struggled to find a good second option all year, especially after I released journeyman Kevin Gregg, and he started collecting tons of saves. I eventually had to trade for Trevor Hoffman with Popdude.

Mitch's closers set looks pretty tough.......

I think you might have some trade bait there LC. You're right about the Kinkos bill. It was worth it to me to be able to make my own decisions that day.

With those two teams having so many closers, I feel good about having two of them. I was holding out on B. Lyon, and paid for it. I was able to sneak in Greg Aquino late. I had to snag Corpas a little early, but I got him.

That is an interesting point you made Pat. Alot of closers go down with arm problems, or just lose thier job. Last season I was able to get a couple of replacement closers during the season to strengthen my squad. Oh yeah, Gregg was one of them. laugh

Well...I have to admit even being an experienced fantasy player that this leaguues draft is by far the most challenging for me. With more teams and more roster spots than typical leagues, and quite a few very savy managers, it's slimmer pickings and sleeper picks go much earlier. My sole reason for picking alot of closers is simply because that was my biggest weakness last year. I may have over compensated a little.

I believe I was in first place almost all of last season, only to be taken out by my pal Jay in the finals. I'm gunnin' for ya Bro !!

Anyway...Look forward to another fun filled season. Good Luck to all !!

Mitch

I disagree on the autopick. I thought Yahoo did an awful job of ranking players this year. I ranked the top hundred or so players in case I couldn't make the draft. I was having computer issues and was concerned it may not work on draft day. I figured I'd let autopick take care of the rest, if forced to. As it turned out, I was there for most of it, but noticed that there are literally hundreds of players that have little or no chance of being in the majors this season that are ranked higher than guys that are regulars and semi-regulars! Donald Lucy is ranked higher than Johnny Estrada??????? Lucy has no chance of even playing for the White Sox this year, unless there is an injury or September recall and Estrada, a .300 hitter in past seasons, batted a solid .278 with ten dingers and 54 RBI's last year. While he is injured right now, I'm sure he will get plenty of at bats on the Nats. Who would you rather have?

I absolutely love the formula of this game, but I think that Yahoo's ratings are terrible and it affects some players trade values in the wrong way.
