popdude
Happy New Year! For those of you in the greater Los Angeles area, I wanted to let you know that the book release show for my new(ish) book, SHAKE SOME ACTION: THE ULTIMATE POWER POP GUIDE, is next Friday, January 11.The fun, mirth and musical merriment begins at 9:00pm at Fitzgerald's Irish Pub, located at 19171 Magnolia St. in Huntington Beach. Come and help me celebrate the release of SSA and watch as I attempt to play drums with three of the acts listed below without making a complete fool of myself! The party will feature live performances from several artists featured in the book...oh, and speaking of the book (aren't I always?), copies will also be available for purchase at the show, should you be so inclined. I've also heard rumors that there might even be some dessert-type stuff there to munch on, too. And the cover charge for the whole shebang? Only $5.00 - such a deal! Here's the lineup:9:00 - sparklejets*uk (their first live performance in over a year!)9:45 - Kenny Howes (with his brand new band!)10:30 - Barry Holdship Four (their drummer is very old!)11:15 - Walter Clevenger & the Dairy Kings (they OWN Fitzgerald's, baby!)12:00 - Robbie Rist/The Popdudes (a rare live performance from Robbie!)Hope to see some of you there! JohnO
John - Have a great time, sell tons of books, and try to avoid Cyril J. if he's there with a lawyer (not likely - he'd have to pay them!), threatening to sue over the book's title!..... popdude
Thanks for the support, guys. To answer your questions:1. Not sure if the book is going to be on barnes and noble.com or amazon.com or not; it was scheduled to, but believe it or not, we're almost sold out. There are plans in the works for a volume two.2. JohnO, I'm not sure why you keep mentioning the possibility of Cyril Jordan suing over the book title (I've seen it here and in other places online). Last time I checked, I don't think you can sue over the use of a title...I mean, the Replacements titled an album "Let it Be," but the Beatles didn't sue... JohnO
John - I know for a fact that you can't sue anyone over a book title unless it's a very unusual or unique phrase that's been copyrighted. My comment has more to do with CJ's nuttiness - every time Ive talked with him, he's made some sort of a threat to sue somebody (former managers, record companies, etc.), but never follows through on it... Trust me, I could write a whole 'nother book on some of the dealings I've had with various power pop musicians (and their significant others). "Nuttiness" doesn't even begin to describe it...
