Yes Marv but unfortunately this morning when I was waiting to get into the gym - 2 guys in their early 60's stood there and said some very racist remarks and I got totally offended and told them that they couldn't even behave for such a great moment in history... I mean really - like these idiots EVER were confederates - hell neither of them were raised in the South. I just can't tolerate people basing all their opinions on someone's skin tone - it really shows how ignorant people still are in Florida.

It's sad, but unfortunately racism is so deeply rooted, it will take at least another generation for it to get eradicated from peoples' minds.

This day I will remember forever. What a fantastic run of events to have the first African American President. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. When I was in high school a civil rights march in Alabama ended in violence over voting rights. Who would have ever thought this??? As far as the costs go...security is necesary and expensive. We all pray for President Obama and the rest of us to succeed in all of our challenges that are ongoing. God Bless America!

While I tend to agree that Obama could have put his money where his mouth is, regarding personal sacrifice, by cutting back significantly on the Inaugural festivities, these were done more for his supporters.....and, had there been a major cutback in the number of parties, parades, etc., I'm sure African-Americans everywhere would have complained about his Inauguration not being as grandiose as those of his predecessors!

While I'm also pissed off about various racist comments I heard over the weekend from Whites, it doesn't help matters when African Americans interviewed on TV go the other direction by pretending (or, in some cases, stating) that the previous 43 Presidents didn't matter one whit to them because of skin color! Personally, I have trouble relating to multi-millionaires of any persuasion, whether they're ex-Harvard law professors-turned Senators, or ex-Texas oil men-turned Governors!.....

".....not the 1st African-American president of the US."

Yeah, this takes me back to the very first time I ever visited Richmond, VA., back in the late 50s....and a tour guide made several references to "our first President" being there. Finally, my father asked him - "When was George Washington here?" "Sir, I'm talking about Jefferson Davis, OUR first President!!!"

There was an interesting article in the Washington Post over a month ago about everybody referring to Barack O. as the first African-American President....which basically reiterated the facts that (1) he's multi-racial, and (2) this tendency to refer to anybody with any African blood in them as Black or African-American is an old slave-owners' method of identification that dates back 300 years....and which SHOULD be drastically revised!

The fact that Obama ran on a non-racial platform (AND got about 42-43 million White votes, versus 16 million from Blacks) seemed to get thrown out the window by elements of the media the moment he won! Very disappointing....
