hollies65
Or is listening to 'Puff The Magic Dragon' with your 6 year old kids a tough thing to do?
raspathens
I feel for you. I went through four (4) years of Barney as my kids are 2 1/2 years apart. I will say, however, that the pain was tempered by the excitement and happiness the kids found in Barney, that blue train etc.
hollies65
heh... my problem is, while listening to the song [My son's favorite at the moment]...the lyrics make me feel very sad. I'm a sap!
raspathens
If Puff does that to you, how in the world do you make it through Boats?
hollies65
I don't think anything I have experienced has had the effect that paternal love has.
Ecstasy
Don't worry, Hollies. Sooner or later you learn to tune it out and it becomes white noise. Don't get me wrong, you're still able to smile with your children and nod your head but it becomes less intrusive. If all else fails, try earphones. My oldest is going to be 30 yo this summer and I'm caring for two little grandsons (4 & 1-1/2 yo) every day so I've been doing this for a long, long time. <smile> I wouldn't have it any other way. MJ
Puff really doesn't make me sad (probably because I don't have kids) - it's Leaving on a Jet Plane by PP & M that really gets me quite sad...A few years back when my friends kids were like 3 and 5 and I was on vacation with them for a week..... I had to endure Barney and they had some firetruck video - on and on and on it went - at the time I should have gotten a prescription for xanax ahahahhaha..... raspathens
I think wearing earphones around young children might give them a complex - especially if they notice that you only wear these things in your ears when you are alone with them. Ever notice how young children go nuts as soon as you are on the phone? Then when you get off the phone, they calm down and don't necessarily want to talk - they just hate anything that makes you appear inaccessible. I think that earphones would have the same effect. Guest
I have to agree with Hollies... "Puff" made me sad when I was young. And still today I get a little twinge of melancholy when I hear it. (Maybe something to do with wanting so much for our kids...) When our first son was around 3 we took him to see one of the Sesame Street movies, I think it was called "The Rainbow Connection" The song, by the same name, always made me sad... and I still tear up when I hear it.You know, I think, for me, it might just be the overwhelming emotions of raising a child I never thought I would have. Guest Fresh
My two daughters are 15 and 19 and while I never recall listening to "Puff" with them as youngsters,I vividly remember listening to it on AM radio when I was the youngster. It never failed to make me feel sad, especially when it came to the last verse. As far as Barney,I wanted to put out a contract to have "Baby Bop" sleep with the fishes!
