Who is the person with the best and the worst musical tastes in this forum?

Carmen Smalley

Good point, Marvin. What the common thread (no pun intended) here is that we all love Eric's music, although we also love to split hairs re: his songs/CD's. Carmen's question could also be phrased: "Whose musical taste is most similar to mine (best) and whose is least similar (worst)". Carmen, I have to say that you introduce some interesting topics! smile

Hey Carmen Smalley, you really have alot of balls or boobs or both not really sure at this point to come on here and bash the musical taste of people that you really don't know. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. For you to make a statement picking out your favorites because those selected few have the same musical as you do and pointing out that the rest of the people in this forum that have the worst musical taste is really ballsy. HA! That is not very nice. I would never put anyone down here in this forum for posting their opinion if I disagree with them.

I might argue a point or two if I felt strongly about something but never just directly make judgements about anyone here. If no one else here wants to say it than I will. SHAME,SHAME,SHAME!

I will speak for myself here, I think you owe me an apology.

i had'nt responded to this thread because i was hoping carmen was just poking fun. its ridiculous to say that one has better taste than others on something as subjective as musical taste! lets give carmen the benefit of the doubt and "lets pretend" this was done as a joke. i think we all have interesting tastes in music....

That Freakin' Left Wing Spaniard is just trying to fit in with our sometimes strange and sarcastic

North American humor...Or she's a certified loon crazy

Either way, Carmen knows her music, so we must show the traditional respect and tolerance for all of God's children on EC.com, even the bratty ones like me and Carmen...You know, that kind of new-age-secular-non-judgemental respect and tolerance for all people that lead to us getting attacked on 9-11? frown

The first lesson: No one's taste is "better" or "worse" than the next person's... it's all subjective and personal... One's ability to stand by their taste's is another thing... that's why i enjoy going back and forth w/ marvin about things... i enjoy that people express clearly how and why they perceive things and why music resonates and strikes a chord with them... the only thing i wish is that people open themselves up to the vast "unheard" stuff that could easily take hold of their hearts like the 'Berries and Eric... that's how Tommy and Bob Allen (and other close friends) turned me onto April Wine, Artful Dodger, Big Star, Van Duren, Emitt Rhodes, Pagliaro, Badfinger, A Foot In Cold Water....

Pierson, being originally from Montreal, I'm quite well aware of two of our favourite acts: April Wine (have even met them) and Pagliaro (met him as well). I've loved both these acts for years and even though I'm not a big fan of AW's recent material, I give them credit for hanging in there for over 30 years. Pag as you might know, is a legend in Quebec, a real pop genius. There are very few pop songs that are more perfect than his "Rain Showers" and "Lovin' You Ain't So Easy." Of the acts you mention, the one that I have no knowledge of whatsoever is Van Duren. You've spoken so highly of him, where can I hear his music? Is it available on-line anywhere?

MARVIN, TRY A GOOGLE OR YAHOO SEARCH FOR: VAN DUREN "ARE YOU SERIOUS" AND SEE WHAT COMES UP... THAT'S HIS FIRST SOLO LP WHICH CAME OUT IN '77 AND DISAPPEARED UNTIL RECENTLY WHEN THE JAPANESE LABEL AIRMAIL RECORDING REISSUED IT ON CD... I THINK THE STUDIO TROD NOSSEL ALSO HAS A LABEL AND IS REISSUING HIS STUFF DOMESTICALLY... HE HAD HIS LONG "LOST" 2ND LP ISSUED ON CD, IT'S CALLED 'IDIOT OPTIMISM'--BOTH DISCS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.... MUCH LIKE ERIC CARMEN, HIS '80S WORK WAS SLICK AND MORE ADULT CONTEMPORARY... HE FORMED A BAND CALLED GOOD QUESTION... PLEASE SEEK OUT THE "ARE YOU SERIOUS" STUFF FIRST AND GO FROM THERE... IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO FANS OF TODD RUNDGREN, EMITT RHODES, AND ERIC & THE RASPBERRIES

I'm glad I don't live in Spain. I can't imagine saying someone has bad taste because they don't agree with me. What happened to personal tastes and freedom of expression? It sounds like perpetual high school - the one point in life where you DO want to be the same as everyone else and different is equal to bad. Maybe we're not realising that Carmen is only in High School! That would explain a lot of the posts.

One of the things that amazes me about this site is not only how much music by other artists everyone on this board likes/enjoys, but also the vast range of different types of music. Most of the people here not only have eclectic tastes, but also are very knowledgeable about so many different kinds of music and artists/bands. I am amazed by the knowledge represented here. There are many musicians, performers, songwriters, lyricists, recording artists, etc. who post, and they back up their opinions with reasons and fact. I think that speaks very well of their musical taste and judgement.

Ahh. So still living in the 70s. although it's 30 years later. At least Carmen is back in fashion - and she didn't even have to purchase those bell bottoms and wedgy shoes - she was still wearing the originals. At least the Mary Jane is genetically inhanced now, so toking is much more efficient than it used to be.

Still, I don't think I'd be able to live is Spain if they go around saying that everyone else is wrong if they don't agree with you. I'd be disagreeing with everyone just to annoy them - that's just the type of woman I am.
