JohnO
We're just going to miss each other.....I'll be in NYC from either 10/31 or 11/1 to 11/3 (for show on 11/2).......
missy
Wendy don't forget "Ground Zero". There's obviously not much to see there but the energy in the air is intense. You can also visit the fire station directly across the street, Ten House, and pick up a t-shirt for hubby. Have a wonderful time you couldn't pick a better time of year to go. JohnO
A word of caution - Everytime I've wound up down at Ground Zero with a female friend over the past 3-4 years, they wound up spending decades (it seemed) shopping for clothes at Century 21, the huge department store there..... Daisy McLintock
'Autumn In New York' is a great movie starring Gere and Ryder. I've got it in my collection. Ryder said in an interview that she thought her best role was in that lunatic film "Girl Interrupted" but I say her best role was in Autumn. You'll be shocked at how small the place is! It seats 728. Ridiculously small but a GREAT place to see a show. All of our Rock n' Roll heroes have graced the stage in that theater. JohnO
Personally, I'm catching The Misfits at BB Kings on Halloween night, and The Wildhearts at the Mercury Lounge on 11/2....but this is an EC/Raspberries board, so I'm guessing I'll be the only one from here at those shows! aggiesjc
I love Central Park. I saw it in mid-summer on a miserably humid day, but I'll bet it's beautiful at this time of year!

elle4ec
Wendy, Prepare yourself for an experience unlike no other - especially when you are in the Times Square/Mid-Manhattan tourists areas! Gosh, there is so much to do I could be there for a month and still not do everything on my want list! Sounds like you have a pretty exciting itinerary for starters, like some of the others have mentioned, Central Park and Ground Zero would be good additions. If you visit Ground Zero and weather permits, check out some of the nearby sections of the City such as Soho, Little Italy, and Chinatown. As for the food, it's hard to go wrong with nearly unlimited choices. When you are not in the heart of the tourist areas, ask some locals for their picks for whatever type of cuisine you are in the mood for. For a sweet treat, try a Frozen Hot Chocolate at one of Serendipity's locations. We MapQuested some of the locations we wanted to visit from the address of our hotel to see which ones were in walking distance. If you take a cab, prepare yourself for the "ride of your life", you may want to take Danny S.'s advice and enjoy either a cocktail, or a sedative (or both), before you place your life in their hands!!! If you are a water lover, you may want to do the boat tour around the statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Nearby is Chelsea Pier and if you are a foodie like me, Chelsea Market is the home of the Food Network. I did not visit there, but if I ever go back, I want to take a tour of the Food Network and definitely visit Chelsea Market! I've heard there are some really good restaurants in an area called "the meat-packing district" (I know that doesn't sound too appetizing!). And what girl's trip to the Big Apple would be complete without a shopping excursion to Macy's? It's like a multi-level little city of it's own! Hey, and don't feel silly, I was one of those tourists who made a sign for GMA, (we called ahead and got tickets for a taping of the broadcast), and they actually showed mine and read it on the show that day (my 15 seconds of stardom)! Anyway, have a great time - you won't be bored, that's for sure. You may even catch a glimpse of the "Naked Cowboy" performing in Times Square, we did!! Hope this helps!
