GaryS
Hey everybody. Last night I was out and about in the French Quarter. I wound up in a live music club (El Matador) around 230 am and the coolest thing happened. The band was done and gone and this guy that I know (he is a Jazz critic/writer) comes walking into the bar dressed in a dark suit carrying a ukelelee (sp?). He proceeds to approach a woman that he knows (making his move) and starts strumming away and singing some song about the moonlight and an island (you get the pic). It was THE smoothest approach I have ever seen. Made my night and if it doesn't seem like magic to those reading this, it is the fault of my story telling NOT the moment. Have a great day! darlene
Alright, Gary! You told the story very well! It just goes to show that ANYTHING can and will happen in New Orleans! I would have given anythingto see this guy let Eric's song do the talking forhim. Was a VERY smooth move, no doubt. Just too bad you didn't have a video camera. Could have been the next mp3, eh Bernie? Now for the big question: Did he get anywhere? As in, did she go for it? Did you stay long enough to see them leave together???? --Darlene
GaryS
Well first off he wasn't doing an EC song. I just brought it up cause I thought it was cool. I left before I could see a result but since I know him you bet yout a#* I'm gonna ask him. Hell...I'm straight and I got a little starry eyed. Guest
Good Story Gary I tried that once but I couldn't drag my piano from the stage. we used to have this Italian stallion sax player and between sets all these girls would come up to me or one of the others in the group and ask us what his name was.maybe I should pick up the ukelele or sax
marvin
Geez and all I could think of doing was putting a "Will you marry me?" message on the scoreboard at the Olympic Stadium in Mtl during an Expos baseball game a few years ago.MARVIN

Kristina
Way to go Marvin! I love hearing about romantic proposals....I hope she said yes and you've shared many happy sports moments since...and the music goes without saying.... darlene
If it was for Kristy, she said yes, right Marvin! And she didn't need it on the scoreboard!I LOVED a Hart to Hart episode (pilot) with RobertWagner (for whom I've always had a thing) and Stefanie Powers, when they were in London and heput a huge sign up on London Bridge (Will You Marry Me?) WOW!!!!! *I* was single and was ready to say YES!Billy, however far the guy got, he would have gotten further with Eric's song!GREAT STORY. (Ask him and let us know!) --Darlene
marvin
Yes it was for Kristy, and yes she did say "Yes", and yes we've shared 7 1/2 wonderful years and two amazing children. The ironic part of the proposal (for baseball fans) is that it happened at the very last home game in August 1994 for the Mtl Expos before baseball went on strike. The Expos were in 1st place 7 games ahead of the Braves, and the pennant was just around the corner. MARVIN
Julie
So Marvin, you remember all of the details of the game. Do you remember what Kristy was wearing??!! --tee hee--Julie
marvin
Julie I remember what Kristy was wearing: a McGill university shirt. The game was against the Cardinals and the Expos won the game. The moment was captured for posterity because my brother and sister-in-law were also in attendance and they took a picture of the message on the scoreboard as well as me giving Kristy her ring.MARVIN
Billy
Marvin: If the Expos were able to hold on to all the players they grew through their farm system, man, what a team they would have. Probably a few championships to their credit. Sad to see they are playing 20 in Puerto Rico this year....bring back Jarry Park!
Kristina
Do the Expos still play at Olympic Park? There were rumors that the Expos would play games at Fenway Park this upcoming season-I hadn't heard about Puerto Rico. What's the latest on Bartolo Colon? marvin
Ah some Expos fans among the EC fans! Billy I believe that we (the Expos) would have won the pennant in 1994 and probably given the American League winner (the Yankees?) a good shot at the World Series. After the strike season, we lost John Wettland, Larry Walker, and Marquis Grissom in one fell swoop. The exodus continued the next year with among others, Moises Alou and the team has never recovered. The Expos are playing 60 games at Olympic Stadium this year and 21 in Puerto Rico. There were rumors about Fenway but that didn't materialize. As far as Colon is concerned, appears the Red Sox are no longer in the hunt for his services.MARVIN
Guest
Washington D.C. has been trying to get the Expo's as well. There seems to be alot of concern from the Orioles that a D.C. team would interfere with their fan base.
