Tim From Wisconsin
Well..I figure since I started this thread I should go to see King Kong. I went to a matinee on the 23rd - "Only" $6.00. I snuck a soda in with me, but I bought a small popcorn - Overall a small expenditure.I think overall it is a very good movie. Bernie is right, by the end of the movie you are convinced that he is a real gorilla. It is amazing what they can do with special effects these days. This isn't some hokey looking gorilla that spends most of his time on two feet, but they made sure that this Kong looked and moved like a Silver Back gorilla. Some of the Dinosaurs and other creatures on the island are pretty amazing too. You definately need to see it on the big screen! I saw it on the Marcus Ultra Screen in Waukesha Wisconsin - The largest screen in the Mid-West, and it makes the movie that much better.Yes, it is long, but if you are looking to see a fun movie I give it a thumbs up!Tim

MikeC
I saw King Kong yesterday. First, I saw Munich, and that was quite alot of amazing work in that, aside from the gripping story itself. I was watching, especially, the camera work. One is where people are walking to the right, then another group goes left and down. The camera goes right, with everyone, then up; then it looks down at the second group, and holds the picture there. This is a riveting movie, one of Spielberg's best recently. Yes, there's alot of action going on.King Kong had a big weekend at over 30 million dollars in tickets. I believe it was second, but I'll have to check. The number one spot would be for Chronicles... This was an ideal weekend and upcoming week, because people like to see movies.I really liked this story of Kong. The director did a great job taking us back to that early era of this century. The way people dressed, with those hats and upstyle clothes. This, too, was quite an emotional ringer- Very happy, trying, and sadness, sometimes happening close together. All of the characters had strength, even when they might not have said much. It was the way they said something, because of what was about to happen, or going on at the time. CubbiefanMike
I enjoyed this movie over the holiday weekend. They stayed true to the original... but added some amazing special effects that were so fast and furious it made you want to take another look... in the tradition of great Special effects movies like 2001 and star wars. Try not to blink to much during some of the chase scenes on the monster island. While the first hour or so was an introduction of the characters it still held my interest with the great costumes and scenes that really took you back to the years of the depression. This movie should win a few oscars or academy awards.
MikeC
There will be two more sequels, according to Dircetor, Peter Jackson. The next one, which already began filming this past September, 2005 is expected out this summer. It's called Son Of Kong. Universal Studios finally allowed Peter and other actors to talk about it before Christmas. I found out on my two disc DVD set that shows how the film was done. Craig Benfer
My second childhood story in a week: One of the earliest dreams I remember having as a child was being in the arms of a giant Sugar Bear (from the cereal) on top of the Empire State Building while Sugar Bear swatted airplanes out of the sky. Finally he tosses me at one of the planes and I fall, fall, fall...until of course I wake up before hitting the ground. I haven't seen the movie, but plan on it. BadfingerBarb
I saw "Kong" last week. I hated it. Kong looked great and NYC looked great. That's about the only nice things I can say about it. It is too long. The beginning is padded with far too much involving Ann's struggling acting career and there is a subplot involving a couple of the Venture's crewmen that serves no purpose at all. On the flipside, there was no time spent on the romance between Ann and Driscoll. Ann is basically a playright groupie and Driscoll evidently fell in love immediately after meeting her. I also hated some of the very annoying slow motion camera work. The brontosaurus stampede is laughable and drags on far too long as did the spider pit scene. They turned the Carl Denholm character in a very discicable person. I did like a couple of the homages to the original but the joke about Fay Wray and Meriam Cooper at the beginning was a major groaner! I recommend seeing the original and avoiding this load of crap. Bob Allen
Entertaining (to a degree), but could have used some serious, non-ego-based editing. There's no reason on god's green earth this thing should have clocked in at 3+ hours (my clothes went out of style as I was sitting there with my daughter...plus my ass fell asleep - a weird thing in and of itself...). Tony Cartmill
"I got a $200 million dollar budget and by golly you're going to see all of it up there on the screen, whether your "Sleepy Ass" likes it or not!"- P. Jackson

Tony Cartmill
I finally saw "King Kong". Great ape/girl scenes. Great looking 1930's sets. Most of us agree about the miscast Jack Black. What bothered me the most is the ridiculous over-the-top video game-type action scenes like the "Running of the Brontosauruses" (everyone would have been squashed) and the insect attacks (A teenager shoots a machine gun and blows off giant insects all over Adrien Brody and never hits him once) Then there's Kong taking on 3 Tyranasaurus Rexs at once(Don't bite Kong on the arm with that massive jaw Rex #2, it will only piss him off!), while hanging on to poor Naomi Watts, always inches away from prehistoric death, over and over and over again...Oh my God! Show some restraint and believabilty in the action, Jackson! Not all of us are a nervous 13 year olds with A.D.S.!Still, Naomi Watts and the Kong/Watts scenes are worth the price of admission to this bloated uneven adventure. I really felt for the big ape... **1/2 stars out of 5.
The NH Bushman
i'm surprised that Kong isn't gay in this remake.
CubbiefanMike
For those of you that slept during most of the movie... sleep apnia can lead to more serious illneses like strokes or heart attacks so I suggest seeing your doctor. The movie is good.
