Craig Benfer
Without breaking out my Empty Sky album, I think that version of Skyline Pigeon is different than the one released on the B-side of Daniel. I like the B-side version much better. A great song. I am a huge fan of Elton's music. It would be very hard to list my top 5 obsure songs, but James list is very good. There wasn't EJ song I disliked until Jamacan Jerk Off on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
James
Like some other great writers, his stuff not released as singles is far superior to the singles...IMHO.
darlene
James' list IS very good! I LOVE the song "Tonight." But my favorite album is his very first, when I "discovered" him. --Darlene

Lawyer fan
Come Down In Time.....Bernie at his lyrical best.I do indeed miss the old EJ albums...stocked with wonderful songs. He was really something else in concert in the old days.. early 70s.. now, quite different. Marc
Tim From Wisconsin
And you can't forget about the song - "Theme from a Non-Existant TV Series" off of the Blue Moves Album.Tim
Guest
I always liked Burning BuildingsAnd already said Razor FaceJames I'll have to strongly disagree with your humble opinion on his released singles.I don't think anything obscure even comes close to any of his great hits.Who in this life has written more great singles than Elton. Guest
By the way Has anyone ever seen the documentary of how Yellow Brick Road was done. It's an amazingvideo with elton describing how he and Bernie worked writing this great album in just 2 weeks

James
Stut, I was just being polite...my opinion isn't humble....it's always right! But seriously, there obviously are many many people that agree with your opinion given the tremendous sales of his singles and greatest hits albums. Tiggsherby
I remember a song called "Like a Bullet in the gun of __________" Was it "Robert Ford" and who was the guy anyway? It doesn't seem like it gets played on the radio anymore, yet I kind of remember it as being a "hit"????
Craig Benfer
I Feel Like A Bullet (In The Gun Of Robert Ford) was the flipside to Grow Some Funk Of Your Own both from the album "Rock Of The Westies". It was a doulble-sided hit for Elton reaching #14 on the Billboard Charts though I remember hearing Bullet more than Funk on the radio. Robert Ford was the man who shot the outlaw Jesse James. hbecstacy
The harrowing "Ticking" from the underrated "Caribou."
Jeff
Robert Ford was the man who killed Jesse James, while James was adjusting a picture on a wall.
Billy K.
"Rare Masters" has a lot of good EJ stuff(unreleased and b-sides)...like the "other" version of "Madman Across the Water""Screw You" is interesting with that Bostonian intro......you are primed to hear Brad Delp but it throws you for a loop when typical Elton comes in."I Saw Her Standing There" live is the last-ever concert apperance of John Lennon, with Elton. "Rare Masters" also includes "One Day at a Time", "Sick City", "Cold Highway" and the demo version of "Let Me Be Your Car" which Elton gave to Rod Stewart to record."Flintstone Boy", where Elton wrote all the lyrics, is so stupid, that it is funny....."Grimsby" is likeable.....and I like the way "Grow Some Funk of Your Own" kicks out after "Island Girl" ends....best EJ rocker this side of "Saturday Night"....Speaking of "Saturday Night....", Alice Cooper did a sing-along version of it, while introducing the band during the "School's Out" encore at I show I was at......Davey Johnstone was the guitarist on that particular tour......Really cool! wimvriezen
No one is mentioning my favorite obscure Elton John song Sixty years on, I believe it's on his first album, correct me if I'm wrong, but you all need to listen to it.

James
Yeah Wim, "60 Years On" is a great song. I think the live version from Australia (with the symphony orchestra) is even better than the studio version.
Al K
You all hit on most of my favorites...but here's a few more:(Gotta Get A) Meal Ticket.Bite Your Lip (Get up and Dance).Medley (Yell Help/Wednesday Night/Ugly).Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future).Blue Eyes -not exactly obscure but not a big hit either...just great crooning.Kiss The Bride - again not exactly obscure but good fun.Touche on Ego and Curtains...and One Horse Town and Crazy Water. wimvriezen
Empty garden |Hey Hey JohnnyWhat happened here as the New York sunset disappearedI found an empty garden among the flagstones thereWho------------lived hereHe must have been a gardener that cared a lotWho weeded out the tears and grew a good cropNow it all looks strangeIt's funny how one insect can damage so much grainAnd what's it for, this little empty garden by the brownstone doorAnd in the cracks along the sidewalk nothin' grows no moreWho------------lived hereHe must have been a gardener that cared a lotWho weeded out the tears and grew a good cropAnd we are so amazed, we're crippled and we're dazedA gardener like that one no one can replaceAnd I've been knockin' but no one answersAnd I've been knockin' most of the dayOh and I've been callin' oh hey hey JohnnyCan't you come out to playAnd through their tears some say he formed his best in younger yearsBut he'd have said the roots have grown stronger if he could hearWho------------lived thereHe must have been a gardener that cared a lotWho weeded out the tears and grew a good cropAnd now we pray for rain and with every drop that poursWe hear------------we hear your nameAnd I've been knockin'....Can't you come out---can't you come out---to playJohnny---can't you come out to play---in your empty garden
