JCraft
I know this gets hashed out from time to time, but today I was doing some running around and I thought, "it would be a little embarssing if some of the people at EC.com Knew I was listening to this" It was Wilson/Phillips "California" CD.So noe that I've 'fessed up---what's in your CD case????JIMPS--we all know that Marv and Tony have Winter Dreams there
darlene
Jim, I LOVE Wilson/Phillips! I think their harmonies are great. I listen to Chris deBurgh and Kyle Vincent sometimes. --Darlene
BadfingerBarb
I think "Toxic" by Britney Spears is a great dance record and I don't like dance music as a rule. It reminds me of a rock band out of Nashville several years back called Fleming and John.
aggiesjc
Okay, as long as BadfingerBarb is bringing up Britney Spears, I'll confess to having a Backstreet Boys CD.
marvin
For my 14th birthday, I received the DOUBLE ALBUM "Donny Osmond Superstar." Yeah sure it was emabarassing back then, but I still love "Sweet and Innocent."Marvin
popdude
I have a soft spot in my heart for "Mmm Bop" by Hanson, but shhhhhhhhhhh! don't tell anyone. :-)
Raspbernie
I (ahem) have a few David Cassidy tracks floating around on my iPod. I know he received some critical acclaim for his ambitious solo CD that was released a few years back, but I'm talking about tunes from those early, Teen Beat poster boy, well-coiffed hair, Partridge Family days. "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted," in particular -- Tracy's playing some GREAT tambourine on that one :-)Bernie
JCraft
Don't worry Brenie---I have refrained from hunting them down on CD, but I actually own every Partridge Family Album. That Susan Dey was a hottie!JIM
smittie
I own and have always loved listening to "Colour by Numbers" by Culture Club w/ Boy George. Gets me bopping around everytime!! (Whew, that was embarrasing! ) I also have and will never part with my large collection of Partridge Family bubble gum trading cards!! aggiesjc
I love the Partridge Family! Great memories of blissful youth, and some catchy tunes!
marvin
You'd be surprised as to how many PF addicts / experts there are on this board. Larry, Bob and Andy are the ones I know about, but I'm betting there's even more. I've sung the praises of Hanson before. In my opinion, there last two discs are the best Pop music I've heard in years. Too bad no one else is listening.Marvin
gordharris
Your not going to believe this guys, I recieved my first album at the age of 16, it was The Beach Boys hits vinyl, then John Denver-The Windsong" Album, then, I totally discovered THE RASPBERRIES, on my own.I also collected THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY CARDS, I got rid of them, and enjoyed the show, all because of Lori(Susan dey), I had a crush on her real bad.Today, she still looks great, I also had a crush for Sally Field(THE FLYING NUN),Wow! another still beautiful woman. After that it was GRANNY CLAMPETTE, THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, Lol
darlene
Okay, I'll fess up. I used to play "I Think I Love You," by David Cassidy all the time! And everything by The Association. The song, Time For Livin' gets me in a happy mood, almost as much as I Wanna Be With You. --D
Jeff
OK, so what do we have here? What has been mentioned a couple of times on the thread?David Cassidy/Partridge FamilyAssociationHansonWilson/PhilipsNotice the common thread, aside from boppy pop ?? Background HARMONIES !!!I think we can all fess up to beautiful harmonies as a key element in our common musical loves. And if you love the 70's Berries harmonies, he "New Millennium" 'Berries are even better, because they are fuller!PS -- Funny you should mention the CD "California" - it was one of the CD's I listened to on the iPod on the way to the Chicago show! Jeff
Now, I will admit to a skeleton group I love, that is not predominantly harmony based, and somewhat embarrased about, (JuliaABM will particularly be familiar with, along with other English board members) is loving The Wombles, the beloved British childrens show. However, it should also be noted, that The Wombles were masterminded, written and produced and performed by a very talented musician, Mike Batt. And, there are a lot of power pop elements in it. popdude
Oh, the Wombles were agreat bubblegum group! I always enjoyed "Remember You're A Womble."
Jeff
John, actually, they were much more sophisticated than "Bubblegum" -- let's not give the others a false reading. Ohio Express and The Archies were "bubblegum" -- The Wombles had ochestrated ballads, Baroque pop tunes (a la Left Banke), and power pop (find the tune "Invitation to a Ping Pong Ball"). Yes, and they did do some silly, boppy bubblegum. Mike Batt has had a pretty prolific career since, outputting many styles of music.Oh, yes -- and I do like to listen to the Archies -- no, they are not solely cartoon, but behind The Archies, was the US counterpart of Mike Batt -- Ron Dante, another talented musical heavyweight, who went on after to many projects -- producing, writing, singing. Gregkevinw
double album donny osmond....MARVIN WINS!....felt silly about liking rick springfield until i saw him in concert! i don't why we should feel sheepish about liking wilson phillips given their bloodlines. JCraft
Hmmm---I had almost forgotten that accursed term "bubblegum".I remember working one night (and I may well have indulged in an adult beverage) when a friend of mine got up to do a song and I noticed " I Think I Love You" on the disc. Imagine my horror the next morning when I awoke and realized I not only did the song, but I remembered all the words!!! I feel so cheap!!JIM
marvin
Ken Sharp's buddy Jim (can't remember his last name) who was at the Cleveland shows and Chicago shows is a MAJOR Springfield fan. In fact, he designs Rick's website.Marvin
hbecstacy
The Brady Bunch CD, "It's a Sunshine Day," has spent some time in my CD tray.Highlights: "Time to Change" and the unforgettable title track.Dem Bradys could sing (at least the studio folks could). Dougjack
Okay, I have all the Partridge stuff, and Monkees (not as embarrassing as it once was), and okay, even 1 Bobby Sherman LP, 1 Archies LP. A couple of Osmond 45s. All the Carpenters LPs. Rick Springfield (the early teen idol pre-Jesse's Girl Rick). But my 1st LP was Glen Campbell (Galveston) - how's that for sappy? Now, where's my Nine Inch Nails CD? I need to wash my brain out...
