Concert Tix Price$

Now here is a issue I would like to share with everyone. Concert Tickets which are at obscene prices. It's scalper prices at face value. While I don't want to come across as a real downer it's just that I'm old school. To see someone who is a member of the R+R Hall Of Fame these days will cost you between $150 to $350 while in the good old days under $20. Who's to blame? It all started in 1984 with that Jacksons Victory tour with $35 tix which was controversial at the time. Most artists when get asked this they'll reply "Well that's what everyone charges". Scalpers I think should take the blame. The industry is fed up with good seats being sold for huge $$$$ that they want to join in with them. Most people I know of won't pay. Others I've come across will scalp on the night of show and purchase off someone who'll chop the price out of desperation. If it's someone I'm a huge fan of I'll pay. Anyone in between, forget it. I got a 2 word solution to it all. Don't go. Tours and shows can get cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. An empty house should give them something to think about. I rest my case. John

John...To the best of my memory the Eagles are major felons in this area.

When they reunited for the "Hell Freezes Over Tour"-someone in their camp realized that their college age audience in the 70's were now white collar professionals with mucho discretionary income. Instead of charging-say 20% more than the going rate for this special event-I believe they did a market analysis to find the maximum they could charge and still fill all the seats.

Result...HELOOOO! $100 Rock Concert Tickets.-Ira.

I recall reading a quote from Glenn Frey re the Eagles ticket prices in 1994. He said something to the effect that center court tickets for a Lakers game was (at that time) over $350/ticket, a Streisand show was around the same price. Given the fact that the band members were now travelling with their families, he felt that $175/ticket was market price.

Are these prices for the larger venues? At the local Ameristar Casino concert venue charges(the last I heard) at least $60/ticket. Most of the concerts they are bringing in are established bands, musicians. I am not sure how many seats their concert halls hold but the $60 + is too much for my budget. I can't see paying it and including parking. Now, the Raspberries/Eric on the other hand I will spring for it. I'll be saving up for it. I guess it's what an individual thinks is a good deal. I can't remember the last time I was at a concert. I know it was BC - Before Children. Now that I have kids to raise, this pastime has become a faint memory for me. I'd rather spend the $$ on them than myself.

As an avid concert goer, I have sadly gotten used to the high ticket prices. I will never pay over face value for a ticket though, and I have always gotten a good ticket to any show I have attended. The key is to wait! Don't worry too much about trying to get tickets the minute they go on sale. Lot's of the best seats aren't even released then. On the day of the show - after the stage has been set up, and the band et al have figured out what they need - they ALWAYS release great seats the day of the show, even if it's been sold out for weeks. All you have to do is call ahead, ask about tickets being released, and go down to the box office with cash. This has worked for lot's of shows for me including Springsteen, Elton John, Bob Seger, Prince, and many more... If they do this at the venues in Milwaukee, I imagine they also do it all over the country.
