marvin
Thanks to 'post-Reflections', I was made aware of a band from Pennsylvania called the Jellybricks. Larry Kennedy of this band contributed to 'post' and also sent me a copy of the band's latest disc, "Power This." I've had a chance to listen to it extensively over the last few days, and I must say that it is very impressive. Power pop in a post-Raspberries world doesn't get much better than this. Slide on over to http://www.jellybricks.com/ for a listen or for more information on the band.Marvin

popdude
Jellybricks are cool; the lead singer often sounds like a dead ringer for Matthew Sweet....
smittie
I heard the Jellybricks live at a New Years Eve party a few years back here in good ol' York, PA.They were fun and I enjoyed their sound! They're from Harrisburg which is about 30 min. north of me!!
marvin
Thanks Julie. Have you heard of Jeffrey Gaines?Marvin
Dougjack
Marv - Another great tip! I spent yesterday afternoon listening to the new Jellybricks CD (you can listen to the whole thing on their website) and ordered it last night. You should get a commission!Jack
marvin
Jack I'm glad you liked it. I'll pass on your comments to Larry Kennedy. I'm sure that he will be thrilled that so many new fans are coming on board. As John B (popdude) said, there is a Matthew Sweet'ish sound to the band. Also try out a band called the Greenbury Woods. There is a similarity between them and the Jellybricks. A bit less on the 'power' and more on the 'pop' side.Regards,Marv
MAM
Way cool band, the jellybricks ... downloading the album from i-tunes as I write.
marvin
Mike welcome on board the Jellybricks club - and they're from your neck of the woods also! By the way speaking of the Greenbury Woods, they have splintered into another band called 'Splitsville', and a couple of years released a fabulous tribute to "Rubber Soul" and "Pet Sounds" - all original music, titled "The Complete Pet Soul." If you can find the disc, and you're a fan of mid-60's Beach Boys/Beatles, you'll enjoy this music.Marvin
Dougjack
Okay, Marvin - cut it out! I just went and listened to some samples of "Pet Soul" - fuffin' fantastic! Ordered that, too. If you don't stop this, I won't be able to afford to eat!
marvin
Jack where did you find "Pet Soul"?Marvin
Dougjack
Not Lame has it (I think it's either the Japanese or Spanish versions). Or, at least they let me order it and said that it was "in stock".
marvin
"Pet Soul" is tough to find. Amazon has it for $56!!! The album after "Pet Soul" is also very good: "Incorporated." The band that begat Splitsville, the Greenbury Woods, had a fine disc in the mid-1990's titled "Big Money Item." It was produced by Andy Paley (Beach Boys connection), and it includes one of my favourite pop songs of all-time, "Parachute." If you can access this song somewhere, give it a listen.Marvin
popdude
Speaking of Not Lame (and since we're making some recommendations), check out The Soul Engines' CLOSER STILL cd at Not Lame (they have soundclips). Jangly guitars and great, memorable songs abound. Another one of my faves from 2003.Heck, why don't I just go ahead and post my top 10 from 2004? :-) Most of it's power pop/pop stuff...1. Eugene Edwards - My Favorite Revolution (Tallboy Records)2. Lolas - Something You Oughta Know (JAM)3. Bronco Bullfrog - Oak Apple Day (Rock Indiana)4. David Grahame - DT and the Disagreeables (Dog Turner)5. Cloud Eleven - Terrestrial Ballet (West Coast/JAM)6. Tommy Keene - Drowning: A Tommy Keene Miscellany (Not Lame)7. Cliff Hillis - Better Living Through Compression (Tallboy)8. Jamie Hoover and Bill Lloyd - Paparazzi (Paisley Pop)9. Seth Swirsky - Instant Pleasure (no label)10. John Hoskinson - Miscellaneous Heathen (Kaopeoths)

They do let you download 3 of the tunes. Pretty cool, but I'm liking JB better at the moment.
marvin
Thanks Mike. I'll check that out. By the way, I passed along yours and other people's comments about the Jellybricks to lead singer Larry Kennedy.Marvin

marvin
Last night I received a phone call from Larry Kennedy of the Jellybricks. He told me that he is truly in awe that there is a thread on this website devoted to his band. Add that to the fact that people have complimented the band on their music, have actually purchased the cd, and have made whisperings of the Jellybricks opening for the 'berries, and you can imagine how Larry is feeling. He thanks all of you for giving an unknown, talented band a shot in the arm, and a shot at some recognition.Marvin
