Peachie
My brand new home computer is not what I expected it to be. I've spent the weekend and each night so far this week customizing and tweaking(sp?). Got a lot more pleasue and peace out of playing piano. With piano I can play, explore, compose. I have auto 'don't do that' buttons, like hitting the wrong sharp, flat, or key Built in security, at my fingertips, on demand. Without windows, defragmentation, viruses and the like. How pure is that fellow ec.com people? You already know.
Muzza
My Problem.. can't play a note on a piano... Have to rely on "technology" to give me relaxtion/pleasure.And here I get leads to some neat music.Gina...I understand what you are saying though. Enjoy your piano. Just use the computer to log onto EC.com Why else would you need it?? Muzza
aggiesjc
I wish I knew, Gina! I can't play the piano, but always wished I could. I'm stuck at the computer keyboard.
Paulie Mississippi
Yeah, but can you log onto Eric Carmen Dot Com on your piano?
TOMMY TUNES
Yeah, but can you log onto Eric Carmen Dot Com on your piano? or play "TOMMY'S Name That TUNE"?
Peachie
Paulie, ec.com is one of the reasons I got a home computer. Admin at work won't allow me to have Quicktime. So with high hopes I installed Quicktime at home. ActiveX will let me listen to the video Bernie put up but I can't see it. Back to the drawing board. Julie
Hi Gina,I'm not a hugely smart computer-type-geek, so I may not be really helpful, but, I had a similar problem with Active X when I tried to listen/watch the new stuff Bernie put on. I realize you said you have a new computer, but do you have the newest version of Quicktime? I thought I did, but come to find out it was a little different than mine. I also had to check or uncheck (can't remember which) a little box in my internet options area--and seems like I did something else too--although it escapes me just now (I'm tired and have had a rough day!) Anyway, I'm not really sure which thing was the magic bullet, or maybe it was all of them, but I got it to work. I guess re-reading this, I haven't really been very helpful in a technical kind of way, but I am trying to give you hope! (I'm a very hopeful type person!) I'll dink around and see if I can figure out what box I checked and where it was! In the meantime, maybe one of our more computer-whiz types will provide you with the right answer!--Julie
Julie
Gina,While you're in Internet Explorer, go up to the top of your screen and click on "tools". Then, go down to "internet options". When that window opens up, go to the tab on the top that says "advanced". This will bring up a big list of options that you can "check". Keep scrolling down the list--under media it has some options that allow this and that. Just read them and select the ones that make sense (maybe I'm weird, but a lot of them do make sense to me!) There are options for ActiveX also if you keep scrolling through the list. Remember too, you can always "google" your problem--type in "problems with ActiveX" for example and this may lead to some good solutions. My friends at work think I am a total genius with the computer, but I really just look around and pull down menues and read & study stuff in there. --Julie
Peachie
Thanks for the info Julie. Strangely enough, I didn't do a thing and now its working. Go figure. Kathy, I was thinking that I should get a MAC on the way to the store cause of what people on this board have already said about it. Coulda, shoulda, didn't. I'll remember your advise and use it next time.
Paulie Mississippi
"When it 's time to upgrade, just remember one word: MAC."Kath, if you smile when you say that; is it MAC & CHEESE?
darlene
No, MAC and cheese is what I get when I go to Kathy's house. We eat cheese then go into her computer room and go on EC.com on her MAC. I think, though, that she wishes I would leave more cheese for her. --Dar
Darren
Well, you are using a "proprietary" system - Windows. So. it's really an unfair comparison. There are alternatives, commonly referred to as "Open Source" or "Free software", which will allow you to play, explore, and compose.I'm saying this as one who has played guitar for 36 years, and majored in Computer Information Systems. Sharing a program can be just as enriching as sharing a song.I mean, using a proprietary OS to explore is like playing an instrument with no fingers. Peachie
I believe you Darren. However, my take on it is this. Cyberstuff is great, don't get me wrong, but I feel more involved playing an instrument than I do just clicking and waiting for the outcome. I'm coming in on the back side on technology. I've been on a computer at work for years. To actually play an instrument is pure. I'm sure you already know that since you've played 36 years. That must feel great. Me, when I say I can compose on a piano, it ususally means I'm just rebooting myself. A 'get away from a structured world'. In the process I find creativity.
