Raspbernie
I think her show is the WACKIEST thing on television since Chris Elliott's 1990 short-lived masterpiece "Get A Life." But be prepared to leave everything you've come to expect from TV "sit-coms" behind if you decide to watch. For example, in the second show of the series, Sarah (fearing she has AIDS) starts an AIDS awareness group and in a heartfelt speech to inspire her volunteers says, "If we can put man on the moon, we can put a man with AIDS on the moon. And then one day, we can put everyone with AIDS on the moon." But if that offends you, fear not, each half hour manages to offend just about everyone. The Sarah Silverman Show may not be everyone's "cup of tea," but I'm old enough to remember when America "got" Archie Bunker. Context. That's what it's all about. Somebody says something outrageous. You laugh. Then hopefully, you realize the joke is not on you, but on the bigot who actually feels that way. America was a much more free-thinking place before we P.C.'d up the joint and started condemning commercials that showed fictional robots commiting suicide!Oh, and if you're still on the fence about whether you should check out The Sarah Silverman Show, in another episode she dreams that she has died and gone to Heaven. Greeting her at the pearly gates is a magnificent man in white flowing robes. He is African-American. Sarah gazes up at him and asks, "Are you God's black friend?" JohnO
IMO, "Jesus Is Magic" was one of the very best films of 2005. It's absolutely hilarious, although it might offend some with her liberal use of various 4 letter words, not to mention the topics she covers. She was also the absolute highlight of "The Aristocrats". I need to check out her Comedy Central Show....
Captain Harlock
Sorry guys, I don't think she's funny. Not even by accident. The show is atrocious. I watched the first episode and thought "it can't be this bad". Then after the second one I said "yeah it IS that bad!!".
ira
Sarah IS an acquired taste-I suppose-but the classroom scene on the link above-is something that really epitomizes her comedy-and that I find pretty funny.(But I really could see someone finding it offensive depending on their point of view.) Tony Cartmill
Sarah is funny AND offensive! Sometimes she tries too hard to be both, and only half of the cute-Jewish-chick shotgun pellets hit their mark...I admire her for pushing the comedy envelope, though...But the master of that was Richard Pryor from about 1975-1981
MikeC
I was reading comentary on her performance in "Jesus Is Magic". That she pushes the comedic envelope is why I like her. And she pulls her comedy off by making it look like she doesn't understand it well.Sarah Silverman will be ever greater, when she lets her comedy build. Her problem is changing directions quickly. She'd be better to change the subject, but then maintaining something from the past joke with something similar. The article said she needs a good director to build the scenes better, a good writer to work with her style, and a better movie editor, because the editing is abrupt. Captain Harlock
See the problem is not that she's trying too hard. It's that her material is horrible. Alot of the jokes sound like they were written by a five year old who just learned a dirty word. As far as being offensive, she doesn't really pull that off well either. Carlos Mencia does it well. Sam Kinison did it EXTREMELY well. But her delivery is stiff and predictable. I don't know how her show got picked up for another season only two episodes in but it's got to have something to do with the fact she's doing Jimmy Kimmel.
