So I'm 14 years old and I'm particpating in the Penn Relays in Philly with a bunch of other high schoolers. I'm a freshman....everyone else is either a junior or senior.

We go see The Exorcist......and NEVER in my life have I been more frightened.

Danny...I agree with you....that scene scared the poop out of me. Also the scene where Regan turns into the priest's mother on the bed freaks me out.

To this day...my wife refuses to see this movie. personally I LOVE scarey movies.

EVERY scene in that movie freaked me out ! I don't even know why or how I let my friends talk me into going with them to see it. They literally peeled me off the floor at the end of the movie. When I got home, I slept with my parents that night.....and the next night..and the next night....and the next night.

That "supernatural" scarey stuff is not for me !!

........and another thing that STILL freaks me out ...and I am ashamed to say this, but it's Wizard of Oz. That Wicked Witch of the West still has the same effect on me as it did when I was a kid. The green face with those warts !! UGH !!!! Makes my skin crawl !! eek

I remember going to see it at the end of '73 which is when it first came out. Me and a buddy of mine went to see it over at The Zigfeld Theater in Manhattan. That movie scared the @#@$ out of me. Yeah...big tough guy sitting there with his jacket thrown over his head....taking little peeks.....that movie still freaks me out to this day. Whoa.....

Four of us "tough guys" In High School at the time, saw it at the Colony Theatre here at Shaker Square. A rustic, Old English "Boston Like" Movie Theatre..Rainy night, waited in line for tickets...perfect setting.During the first parts of the movie it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. There were three "Big Mama's" sitting behind us, chompin on popcorn. When Ellen Burstyn quoted to the Doctor"I just dont know what to do" the one yelled "SHOOT THAT MUTHA $#@^&%"!!!!!!!! well the whole audience laughed for 5 minutes. Its what we all needed to calm our nerves.

Hahahaha....funny Danny! I remember when my sons wanted to see the movie. They were in their early teens at the time. So me...trying to be an accomodating Dad, rent it for them. The three of them sat there joking around saying that this wasn't scary. Well...about a third through the film I hear the door to the entertainment room slam....I hear 3 sets of footsteps flying up the stairs....and WHOOOOSHHHHHH....out the door!!! I just chuckled to myself.."It wasn't scary, huh?" I still tease them to this day about it. And no...they still won't watch the rest of it! OMG. LMAO

The only movie that really gave me creeps enough to be afraid to go to bed was Stranger in the House aka Black Christmas with Olivia Hussey and Keir Dullea - the ending on that one just totally freaked me out... other movies never really scared me like that one - not even the Exorcist.....

ME TOO Diane! I can remember babysitting with my sister and the commercial would come on...we'd close our eyes, plug our ears and say: LALALALALALALALALALALALA - REALLY loudly until my sister would peak and see if it was over. No mute or remote control for us back then. lol

If I’m not mistaken, right after The Exorcist hit the box office and did well, another movie was made with the same concept, The Omen. That was another one that I watched, but shouldn’t have watched. “666â€â€¦The Mark of the Devil !!! That wasn’t AS scary as the Exorcist, but it did take a toll on me !! These “supernatural†movies are NOT for me.

I love to watch scary movies, but “thriller†movies, or as I call them, “popcorn eating movies†(Psycho, The Ring, Friday the 13th, etc) That’s why I love this time of year. The month of October is full of these types of movies on television in honor of Halloween.
