So....Is it a good thing or a depressing thing when you save lotsa money buyin' Senior Citizen Priced Movie Tickets and Railroad Tickets and even the middle-aged clerks don't question you even though you're only 58 and fudgin' it a little bit?

Today I picked up a video game for my son at a "GameStop" in Westfield N.J.

At least this was a young clerk (Young clerks can't tell if you're 40 or 60.)...But it still bugged me when this clerk who ALWAYS sees me with my 18 year old...NOT 3 year old son...asked me how my grandson was!

And I'm walkin' around thinkin' I'm a pretty OK lookin' 58 year old!

Sheesh I'm depressed-Signed.-Confused confused In New Jersey!

P.S. ...Is this what I've become?

Ira, What is 58 supposed to look like? If you're going a little gray, touch it up a bit. You have a good attitude, and having an 18yr.old son can keep you in touch with new trends, and keep you young. I'm an older mom of 18yr. old girl. I'm not trying to look like her, just tweak it up a bit. I think guys should also take care of their skin, hair and nails too, it makes you feel good.

I must say I disagree. Trends are for eighteen year olds...dressing age appropriate is a good idea. My hair is salt and pepper...I won't be coloring it...I know women do it...almost all of them...that's okay with me. I see alot of 50+ guys around here...it's so obvious when guys color their hair. With women...they all color their hair! It's Okay...To Be Gray!

I have seriously considered coloring my hair...GRAY (or is it GREY?)! I get tired of being asked if I color my hair. I have to point out some gray hairs so they will believe me. I ordered off of the senior menu at Denny's (55 or older); you should have seen the look the waitress gave me  Once again, my glass is really full (of something) laugh

Ok Ira....My Dear old Grandfather used to say...and I quote..."No Letta the snow ona da roof fool you...there is a lotta heat ina da furnace". Yeah...he was a crazy old man...but I loved him dearly. He lived to be 99..God Bless 'im.

For me as a woman, I have bleached my hair (and sometimes darkened it) some sorta shade of blonde since I was 22. I did have auburn hair once for 3 months. I am a natural blonde (med. ash blonde since I was about 18).

I have a gray streak in my hair; it looks "baby blonde." When my whole head turns that color, I will retire the old bleach. But for now, the small amounts of gray still look better when colored.

As for men, I think gray can look sexy or gray can look old. It depends upon the man who wears it, I suppose. But in the end, it is up to the man to color it or not. What ever is best for him and the way he feels.

My favorite look on a guy...gray hair with dark low lights (Michael Landon did this), one is still gray but not all gray and it looks quite natural. So it’s best of both worlds.

I became a grandmother at 37. After that you'd better learn to cope!

My natural hair color is light ash blonde. At 15 I began dying it and by 20 I found extra light ash blonde looked better on me... I've done it ever since. I like my hair very short because I don't like to primp and fuss and my lifestyle is conducive to caring for children. I know what colors and styles look good on me and I keep current and youthful without trying to look like I'm 20 (I can't stand when women do that!) I've got my oldest, Shaun, turning 30 this summer. I'm getting older, not OLD.

I am constantly mistaken for being 35 and my grandsons being my children yet I just turned 49. John's aunt always tells me I glow. I'll tell you what I tell her --- DO WHAT YOU LOVE! I'm truly blessed that I've been able to do exactly what I've wanted to do with my life and few people seem to say that. I love caring for my grandkids, remodeling my home and garden, crosstraining to the best of my ability, acting as a special needs advisor, and most of all at this stage I love rediscovering new joys with my husband. Love and joy is the key. If you're doing what you truly love to be doing you'll glow and look younger. Take care of yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually (which are still relatively new concepts to me) and do the things that bring you peace and joy. It's all in your heart and head.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD. WELL.....YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE:

MY NAME IS ALICE, AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPILOMA ON THE WALL, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME. SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH CLASS SOME 30-ODD YEARS AGO.

COULD HE BE THIS SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT..

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL. "YES, YES I DID. I'M A MUSTANG." HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

"WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?" I ASKED. HE ANSWERED, "IN 1965. WHY DO YOU ASK?"

"YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!" I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY

THEN THAT UGLY

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED-FACED,

FAT-ASSED,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT

SON-OF-A-BITCH

ASKED,

"WHAT DID YOU TEACH???????????????

My hair just started turning grey (I'm 49). I WILL not color it. But it's cool if you do........

In the meantime though...my chest hair is nearly completely white. What up with that?

But no more grey hair on the chest. I shave that crap off.!!! Booyah!

No THAT's shallow!

You're all familiar with Rock Tours being sponsored by companies....

"Toyota Prius presents the U2 "Save The World for $275 a Ticket Tour"

Budweiser presents the "Get Sloshed/Drink Responsibly Carnivore Tour Featuring The Rolling Stones".

Rock and Roll as a rule is youth oriented or "cause" oriented.....and usually sponsored by cool things like "Gillete Fusion" or "Red Bull" etc.

This next one IS real....

Playing last year at The State Theater in New Brunswick New Jersey....

"Foreigner Sponsored by AARP"!

"Sheesh! eye !......

"Wil You still need me?

Willyou still feed me?

When I'm 64".

"Who'll walk me down to church...when I'm 60 years of age...when the ragged dog they gave me....has been 10 years in the grave"

"Hope I die before I get old"

Oh well....I think the above rockers have been members of AARP for at least a decade. spin

I think about the "age thing" ...Im doing more, now,at my age...then when I was younger.I see people who are younger, who look and act much older than myself.I've been told many times, "I dont look my age", and to tell you the truth, I only act my age when I have to...Funny story. When Jesse Bryson was in High School, I set myself up to jam with him at a blues jam nite, he saw his Father, the next day, and told him, "I played with this older dude , and he just tore the place up".Well his Father responded "Yep, I know him" haha

It's all in your head and what you decide. Of course your body has trouble doing the same things the same way but you don't stop! Last summer my chiropractor informed me that my spine is deformed, that's what causes the constant pain and nerve problems, and it's irrepairable. I could have laid down and died and just accepted that my movement would be limited (and guaranteed that by not moving!) But instead I asked my family to start helping me make changes to the house that would make it easier for me to navigate it and maintain it. Yep, I didn't say, "Could one of you help me line up a housekeeper? I can't do this anymore." I had NO INTENTION of not taking care of MY home and MY family anymore so I had to make it managable on my terms --- but I'M still doing it. I joined a water aerobics class (inspiring both of my daughters, my daughter-in-law, and her cousin to join) to increase my mobility and I keep to a walking and cycling program. Same story when my adrenals crashed. I was too sick to do all the running around I used to do so I began writing and getting published. Then I'd receive notes from people who read my articles saying it helped them at just the right time. I decided it was time to make a difference in another way until I recovered. JUST SWITCH GEARS! Too many people are freaked out by getting older which then leads them to "getting old". Just find things you love and do them to stay motivated. Find a way to keep being productive and making a difference. You'll feel it and so will everyone around you. Helping others is always inspiring. How often do you hear about the person who retires and then sits in front of the tv dying earlier because they had nothing to do? NOT ME, folks! I'll consider getting old when I'm 90 --- maybe. No... I doubt it.
