The defense that was stout last year couldn't stop a wet noodle this year. Injuries and poor play made it hard for the offense to keep a lead. They lost a lot of games by just a few points. Those were the kinds of close games we won in the past. And, I did say I thought Rodgers had a GREAT year stat-wise -- his numbers were virtually identical to Favre's last year.Ultimately, I think QBs get too much credit and too much blame. And I keep hearing from Favre-bashing Packer fans about how the Jets fell apart because of Favre... and how Rodgers is the Second Coming but the 6-10 record isn't his fault. It's odd, because Favre helped turn a 4-12 team to a 9-7 team. And Rodgers inherited a 13-3 team and went 6-10. Again, not all his fault, but he disappeared during some 4th quarters just like his defense did.... Win as a team, lose as a team. If anything, I'm putting the blame on the GM.Ted Thompson, in his fourth year, took one step up and two steps back, to quote Springsteen. He's gone 4-12, 8-8, 13-3, and 6-10 (31-33 total) as a GM. There are GMs and coaches with better records than that who are getting axed. Yet he seems to be under no pressure. When you root for a team from the time you're a li'l kid and are surrounded by Packer jerseys and memorabilia, you can't quit 'em. But I definitely got more of a thrill watching Jets games this year than Packer ones. If Favre retires, I suppose I'll eventually turn back to green and gold (Jets fans are a pretty negative lot! -- no offense to the great Jets fans here...), but it might have to wait until we see a change at the top of the Packer organization. That means a new GM and coach; the current ones are going backwards. So maybe for a while, I'll just be a man without a team. It'll be a good break. Packer losses used to really bum me out. Hey, congrats on your Chargers making the playoffs. It's one of those quirks of the NFL (an 8-8 team "in," the 11-5 Pats "out"), but that's what the geographical divisions will give you sometimes.... And I also have no problem ultimately with the Ravens beating out the Pats, because the Ravens' 3-1 non-Conference record was against the NFC East (NY, Phil, Dall, Wash), while the Pats' 4-0 record against the NFC was against the NFC West (SF, StL, Sea, Arizona). What I do have a problem with is the Pats getting beaten out by San Diego.......While the geographically-organized Divisions make good sense, I also believe that the game would be better served if, as it used to be in the old days for college bowl games (before there were 65 bowl games being played!), a team needed at least a winning record to qualify for the playoffs! Why allow an 8-8 team from an incredibly bad Division a shot at winning the championship if they happen to get hot? In my mind, such a team has not earned a shot at all the marbles! The Pats (whom I, once again, do not care for) are being penalized for playing in a super-tough Division, while San Diego has been rewarded for being in a crappy one. One of the first Packer games I can remember was the Ice Bowl, I like you suffered through the 70 and 80's but the 90's and up until now have been great. How great did the champange taste in 96? I've lived in CT all my life but have been lucky enough to make it out to Lambeau around 15 times, have met players out there, had great weekends, no matter what, I'll always be a Packer fan. I am with you on Ted Thompson, should he slip another two steps back next year and it will be pretty easy for the board to give old friend Mike Holmgren a call to see if he is interested in coming in to run the organization. (Just my thought) I didn't like seeing Brett get left standing at the train station either, but he did create some of the mess as well, they chose to go with Rodgers and it is what it is.Altohugh there were no Favre like comebacks this year, there were three or four occasions that Aaron led the team in for a score and through poor defense and poor special team play we gave the points right back at the end of the game. I'm thinking the Tennesee game, the Minnesota game, the Chicago game and the Carolina game. While it looks like the Jets owner really wants Brett back, what I don't want to see is him coming back next year and being under a microscope on every play every game. It will certainly not be fun. I think he has got alot to think about --- and he is not going to get until June to think about it this year --Brett's game is and always has been taking chances --- with that comes some INTs. People around here don't understand that and I'm afraid if he got off to a bad start in September it would be non stop bashing. Not a good way to finish up a HOF career. According to ESPN (as opposed to NY Post blogs!), Cowher wanted total control of football ops, which wouldn't be good for their current GM. The Favre thing? The tabloids are on a mission to discourage #4 from coming back. Except for Lupica (NY Daily News) and Bondy (NYPost).If that Cowher gossip were true... would you really want a coach who was afraid of a QB? Afraid of cutting or benching him or "corraling" him?
