elle4ec
Kirk, Did you get to see any of the training camp? They have been featuring the Cowboys camp on HBO. Hey, if you want to become a Cowboys' fan, we could always use a few more here at EC.com!!
JohnO
Pat - While I agree 100% with your comments about what Chicago mgmt didn't do over the off-season, Lovie Smith made a Superbowl 2 years ago with essentially smoke & mirrors.....something which still makes no sense to the rest of the league.Where did their leading receiver finish last year, about 20th in the conference? Ditto Griese as a passer. The passing game has never meant a damn thing to this team, not counting Sid Luckman in the 30's/40's, maybe 1-2 years with Billy Wade (throwing to Ditka/Morris), and another couple with McMahon. Good passing years for that team generally meant bad W-L records over the past 60 or so years. Now, their offensive line - Yeah, that's a real problem....Odds are, beating the Colts away was an aberration...but I'm not gonna write 'em off just yet based on logic......logic which couldn't explain a 13-3 record 2 years ago.....(OR explain beating the Colts on Sunday!) CubbiefanMike
Blackhawkpat... If you ever played football Qb, Wr and Rb are the easiest positions to fill... as long as you have a great defense and good lineman the rest falls into place. LC
OUCH --- rough day for a Brett Favre fan! Favre wasn't terrible, by the numbers (18-26, 1 TD, 1 pick), but the Jets' offense didn't seem to be in sync for very long stretches. They actually looked good driving down the field to start the game, only to have the kicker miss a field goal. After that, it was spotty... and Favre's one interception hurt. Clearly, it's a work in progress. And living here in New England, I can tell you that the Patriots used the Las Vegas line (Jets went from being underdogs to 2-point favorites after the Tom Brady news) to their great advantage... one of those "WE DON'T GET NO RESPECT" rallying cries. Hey, whatever it takes.Meanwhile, if you like Favre, don't read the NY media web sites. Some Jets fans are already turning on #4. Not that I expect patience from New York! They don't have 16 years "invested" in Favre. But there are 14 games left... Speaking of older QBs, didn't Kurt Warner look good today? Big numbers.... Mike:I think that Matt Forte is going to be something special, but they need to protect him and the line is not good right now. If finding a QB is so easy, then why don't they FIND ONE??????? Aside from Jim McMahon, who wasn't a great QB, but was a great leader, this team hasn't had a great one since Sid Luckman! Orton was 1-10 throwing balls over fifteen yards today. I'm 49 years old and I could do THAT!The defense looks very good this year, but aside from Forte, the offense is brutal.

Time for the Bears to make a pitch for Matt Leinart, I say!I still like Favre leading my team down the field when the game is on the line. While I realize with Tom Brady out, it changes the odds drastically, but if either of last year's QB's are running the Jets this year, there is no way the Jets are favored, even without Brady.I think Brett is doing very well for a new offense in a large fish bowl.LC:I mentioned to you in an email, that your boy Aaron Rogers looks awesome, though! CubbiefanMike
I dont blame Orton for the lack of offense... unless they make a change at QB blame the coaches for the conservative offense that has been in place for the last 20 years or so. Billy
Brett can't do it all for the Jets and he is not going to make an 8 game difference. A few more losses and the honeymoon with the the media here will be over. I'm rooting for him but playing for the Jets is not going to be easy. Still wish he was in Green Bay!Go Pack Go. Rodgers does look good!
blackhawkpat
To me, it was almost as if the Jets knew he was coming (here we go with the conspiracy theories, eh?). They went out and signed two big name linemen over the summer to protect Chad Pennington?Favre makes Thomas Jones into a better player and has some talent at WR in Crotchery and Coles.Having seen him beat my team first hand for the last fifteen years, I think he will only get better as he gets used to their system.I am not a fan of their coach, Eric Mangini, though, who reminds me of Doug Heffernan from the King Of Queens in both looks and coaching ability! JohnO
Not surprisingly, the Bears' defense played well enough to win, but their offense did next to nothing, aside from Forte. Both of their TDs were either set up or scored by the defense/special teams. With Hester possibly out now, it's not looking good...... Paulie Mississippi
I see that the blown fumble call that gave Denver their victory over San Diego has sparked the league to consider a rules change... much like the "down by contact" rule change... so that if a fumble occurs (which everybody including the Bronco's quarterback agrees happened) the turnover can't be stopped by an erroneous referee's whistle...For those who missed it, the San Diego Chargers were screwed twice yesterday and only lost by 1 point... on a two point conversion play with less than 30 seconds to go...the first time was when they called for a review of a play... one that they would have won... but the equipment malfunctioned just long enough for the two minute time limit to expire... (which makes one wonder... in the new MLB replay, the home-team is responsible for controlling the equipment, making some scribes wonder if perhaps on a play that was going to go against the home-team, might a "malfunction" occur... )The second, and most damning, was when the Bronco quarterback lost the grip of the ball while going back for a pass...dropped it... a clear fumble that a ref called an incomplete pass and blew a whistle on... meanwhile the SD player recovered the ball...After the "challenge" by the booth, the play was called a fumble... but because the referee missed the play and blew the whistle, the ball remained in Denver possesion... and they scored the winning touchdown and 2-pt play two plays later...Giving them credit, the Chargers are making a play for the rule to be reviewed while saying publicly that they understand and accept that this will forever be a 39 - 38 loss... not asking for a change there... and word is the league's "rules committee" will look into the likelihood of insuring that this is a play that does not happen again... Raspyrock
We had some talk of this at work today and concluded that a rule change may be coming. I feel at very least, the call can be corrected especially if the errant whistle did not effect the actions and efforts of the players, and thereby the end result ---- which would have been the case in this particular game. I could see where the league would be hesitant to overturn a known incorrect whistling dead of a play if that whistle caused players to 'let up' or not go after the play, but like I said, I don't think that was the case this time. Officials should suffer something for their blatant, glaring errors.***** PaulieM, I'm almost glad I traded you Chris Chambers. We might have to take up a collection for ya or something!! ( Now watch, you'll stomp me later in the season )
Raspyrock
Another view ---NFL dropped the ball, not the ref, on blown call: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/26784063/
LC
Jets and Chargers, TONIGHT! How have I been a football fan this long and never heard "that chant": J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets! angelina
LOL Tony...The Jets are only two years removed from their last playoff appearance.
