My first concert was back in September 26, 1982 when ZZ Top (El Loco tour: the final stop) & .38 Special (Special Forces) performed at the Saginaw Civic Center. The group .38 Special was so loud I forgot my earplugs & ZZ Top did the song "Cheap Sunglasses" & the laser beam shows up during the instrumental break. I wanted to go see Loverboy (Get Lucky tour) & Prism (Small Change or Chance tour) back in January of 1982 with my brother but I decided that I probably have homework in high school back then. I also wanted to go see Rick Springfield (Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet) when he performed in a sold out crowd in Swan Valley High School in Saginaw, Michigan back in the Summer of 1982. Rick was performing outside. I saw pictures in The Saginaw Newspaper. Matt

Actually my first concert was The Raspberries, Rare Earth and Badfinger, at my high school in 1972. My first concert at a real concert hall was ZZ TOP and Alice Cooper in 1973 at the Capitol Center in Largo MD. The 2nd was Pink Floyd in 1973, at Merriwether Post Pavillion in MD also. This was during their Dark Side Of The Moon tour. PF Dark Side Of The Moon is probably in the top ten albums of all time. I rate it up with Abby Road, Revolver, etc....

Don't feel bad Betsey.

If we can forgive Tony Cartmill for buying "Billy Don't Be A Hero" we can forgive anything!

My first concert was the horrible Beethoven Opera "Fidelio" at the Met. I was 8 and so far it's been my only ever trip to New York. It was such a terrible experience it turned me off of Opera for many years. In fact, I still don't like it much.

Do you?

Thanks Lydia. Maybe my reputation isn't ruined after all. After Bobby Sherman, I went on to the Berries, Peter Frampton, Head East, Foghat, Jackson Browne, Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Beach Boys, J. Geils, Jefferson Starship, and on and on and on. But still, that first Berries concert stands out! wink

Mine was the Beach Boys in December 1973. Really hot show, doing the lesser-known late 60s/early 70s material---with the hits sprinkled in here and there.

Show opened with "I Can Hear Music". Quite impressed with the energy and vibe of "Marcella", which I had never heard of before. And in the case of "Surfin' USA" and "Fun Fun Fun", it really rocked....much more than I expected!

Got hooked on those guys, as well as going to concerts, from then on.

My first concert was Thin Lizzy and Queen at Winterland in San Francisco. I was stationed in the Navy, and this was the first. I had two chances to see Eric, once in San Jose and another in Stockton, Ca but in each case I was on duty and could not leave to see it. My friend took my ticket to Stockton and said it was a good show, he opened for Elvin Bishop. I didn't get to see Eric until the Dirty Dancing tour. laugh

Kirk, I'm assuming that Elvin Bishop concert was in the early-mid 1970's. If that was the case, Elvin was a pretty successful album artist during those years, and was riding the charts with a top single-"Fooled Around and Fell In Love." Not such a stretch to think that Eric might have opened a show for Elvin.

First concert: The Raspberries, Shoreline Inn, Liverpool NY, Feb 12, 1973. There were 2 shows that day - an afternoon gig for the 'under 18' set and an evening show (I attended the afternoon show with my younger brother and sister). It still stands out as one of the most memorable musical events of my life. The place was pretty small, no chairs and we sat on our fannys, right up front. If you closed your eyes, you would swear you were listening to a record they were that tight. Thier vocals were dead on. After the show, I recall seeing some girls asking the guys to sign their bare bellys! To this day, Jim Bonfanti's drumming that afternoon remains locked in my memory...absolutely stunning. At that point, he was using a battleship grey kit w/ one tom. The word 'Raspberries' was stenciled in maroon on the inside base drum head (there was no head on the front of the base). Shortly after that, I think, is when he started using the 2-tommed chrome Ludwig kit you see on the Mike Douglas clips. Thinking about that show still give me the chills (what really gives me the chills, now that I think about it, was that it was 30 friggin' years ago!! YIKES...)

I envy all of you who got to see the 'berries in concert. Although I am old enough to have seen a show, they never came anywhere near (Montreal - Canada) where I was living during their heyday. I had a ticket to Eric's solo show in 1976 in Montreal (opening for the Kinks), but the show got cancelled. I had to wait over 20 years for a second chance when I finally got to see Eric with Ringo in Minnesota.
