Paulie Mississippi
Everybody has a pet peeve or two; and I'm curious who dislikes what here at EC.COM...Two of my biggest bugaboos...People who incessantly wave at the camera during a ball game! Usually these annoying people are right behind home plate or by the dugout, so whenever they see the camera pan their way, they're doing stupid little poses or waves and acting like they're dumber than a box of rocks.Get a clue people, I'm not watching the Braves, the Cubs, the Devil Rays or whoever to see you act like an idiot! (And I'm being generous in assuming that it's an act...)Another big gripe is would be artist who think that the train is their personal canvas! Have you never heard of private property? Can you not understand the beauty in a pristine line of brightly colored boxcars? If people wanted to see your work, you'd be behind a canvas with a paint brush and making enough money to buy your own railcar that you could decorate any way you wanted!! (Here's a clue to rail operators; when these idiots are caught, make them repaint the entire rail yard... in the colors that you want, not the insipid designs that they want!)OK... my rant is over; now... what's your beef? Julie
Well Paulie, my "pet peeve" of the day is that whenever I try to look at the media files here that Bernie is putting up today, a little box pops up that says, "click here to activate ActiveX control". Then, as soon as I click on it, a box pops up that says that Internet Explorer needs to close! AARRGGHHH!!!!!!!! Geez, I've tried updating my ActiveX, I've gone into my preferences and told it that ActiveX was fine with me. Sigh. Still no luck. Oh, and those folks who act like dorks whenever a camera is pointed at them. Well, they just can't help themselves. Somewhere along the path of the "food chain" their ancestors "lucked out" and were not consumed. Thus, the "stupid gene" was allowed to perpetuate! And, as the granddaughter of an engineer for the Chicago & Northwestern, that grafitti stuff is bothersome.......but not near so much as this ActiveX thing is to me currently! Lol!--JulieThanks for the opportunity to vent. It's 100 degrees here and I'm feeling a tad bit cranky! Lol!
LobsterLvr
I don't like fat people who walk in the middle of the sidewalk. Pick a side, damnit!!!Dave
Paulie Mississippi
LobsterLvr, we HAVETO walk in the middle so we don't tip it over! Julie, I love to take railroad pix. My dream is to one day buy a good movie camera and travel from state to state documenting some of their rails. As it is I take some still pix when I travel sometimes and it irks me no end to get situated, see a good pic coming, and then see that some arsehole has "tagged" the rail car I wanted to shoot... AnniekNY
My pet peeve is giving my team parents information with a deadline and having little to no response...email after email after phone call after mailed documentation after apology after apology....6 weeks after the first contact and 2 weeks after the deadline, I still don't have all the mandatory papers I need to get player passes...there....i have vented. That, and parents who relive their sporting glory days at the expense of their children. One parent actually told their own child "you played like crap...you don't deserve to ride home in the car with me..you can ride in the trunk..." and stormed off to leave this 11 year old girl whether he was kidding or not. Enjoy these days, you fool, they grow up so fast (to semi-quote dave smalley!)
danmichel
I don't know if this is a peeve or not...But it bugs me...iPods and cell phones are too small and easy to loose...I don't know how many times i've lost my cell phone for several weeks at a stretch...And I haven't bought an iPod because I know the same thing would happen to it.
Paulie Mississippi
iPods, cell phones... heck, even computers!Remember way back when... when we were told Computers would be our friends... when they'd usher in the four day work week because we could get so much more done! Now we not only work five days (or more) a week, but we are also responsible to be reachable on our off time! You can't get away... How's everybody enjoy all that extra time off?
blackhawkpat
Having Wells, Holliday, Tejada, Jones, Lee, Bonds, and Sexson all on the same team and somehow being last in the league in home runs!!!!!That seems impossible, doesn't it?It seems like there is a mathmatical error on yahoo or something, he said shaking his head...... Raspberries4ever
I've never lost my cell phone -- it's my "umbilical cord" to my kids to keep in touch, if you know what I mean I don't know how my parents made it... we only had PAY PHONES!!! We could tell them where we were, but they never knew for sure, did they? I'm glad I was a teenager in the 70's and not a parent!! My kids are alot better than I was, and I'm thankful for that oh yeah!
Muzza
Here in New Zealand we have overtaking lanes from time to time on what are two lane roads (One lane going each way). My gripe is those drivers who drive 5 - 10 kph under the speed limit until they get to the Overtaking lanes. Then they speed up to over the speed limit then slow down again after the Overtaking lanes have finished And Raspberries4ever - I have to go back to an earlier decade to remember my teenage years and I dont think I even had money to use the very few Pay Phones that were around. ( Fun music though)And I think we went out less, particularly at night. Another gripe - Teenagers who party every night.Muzza
marie
This is the perfect topic to go with the 95 degree heat. I know I am going to sound like an old crank here, but it bugs me when I hear parents say they don't want their perfectly healthy teenager to have a part-time job as it could interfere with school, hobbies, fun and being young in general. I know there are lots of hardworking students in the world, but more and more I am hearing parents repeat this sentiment. Working as a teenager teaches social skills, responsibility, as well as time and money management. It also builds self-esteem. I can't imagine graduating from college and getting my first job, ever. Teenagers of America, get to work! Well, it is official. I have turned into my parents.
JohnO
Concession stands at movie theaters, and the kids that work at them. At one on Saturday, when I was asked by the kid if he could help me, I replied - "Yes, a small popcorn, with butter, and a large diet coke." I was then asked the following questions, in order - (1) What size popcorn was that, Sir? (2) Did you want butter? (3) Did you order a drink? (4) What kind was it? (5) What size drink? GRRRRRRR.........Oh, and New York Yankees haters who equate the team to cancer irk me as well.......
AnniekNY
Marie, the parents don't want to transport their teenagers to their jobs and use the school bit as an excuse- i think (some of)the kids would look forward to having a job...and getting all the benefits you listed.Pet peeve: helicopter parents (heard that at college orientation) who swoop in to save their child from whatever the crisis is of the day...from doing their homework for them to calling a teacher to bitch them out for not giving the kid a second chance to get an assignment in or a major paper due. best one i heard at soccer this morning: the parent who goes on the instant messaging as her daughter to find out what the friends are saying about her daughter and to fix fights the kids are in.yankees rule in this house even though my son is a major yankees fan and my son is a lifelong Mets fan.... marie
I think our pet peeves are defintely related Annie. Helicopter parents are the norm where I teach and they make me (and probably their kids)nuts. Only three more weeks until all the fun starts again... TheScentLady
Drivers who run stop signs (VERY common in my neighborhood). AnneG
Driving 25mph in a 25mph zone (near a school, mind you) and having a massive truck sit on my back and flash his brights at me. AnniekNY
OK, I meant to say that my son is a Yankees fan and my HUSBAND is a Mets fan....Name that Movie, Paulie:Girl one: "Ah, HeLLO! Stop sign?"Girl two: "I totally paused."Recordings that say: for ENGLISH, press ONE.WHY do we have to push a button in the US of A?Self-confession time: I need to listen more and not think of the answer before someone is done speaking. Paulie Mississippi
AnnieK, you got me on the movie; I'd guess something like Michelle and Romy's Class Reunion... and as for Press One for English, when I was making a run to Laredo, TX and used a calling card to make a phone call home, I was told: "Para Espanol, Uno; For English, Two..." I know we're near Mexico there, but for cryin' out loud... I was still in the USofA... Where's Toby Keith when you need him?Kathy... You said: "B. Being "scanned"...up and down, to assess the look. I can tell. It's bothersome. I like to look into your eyes. Look at mine. "Now you know if you weren't so darned cute...
