Mitch
Whereas a character like J.D. that Zach Braff has created on "SCRUBS" is so funny that I can't imagine anybody else playing that part.I agree 1000 %
Tony Cartmill
New episodes of SCRUBS tonight on NBC. They kind of know this is their last season, so they are going a bit crazy and uneven. But most of the time, it's still a half hour hoot!
mannoman
Quote:OK, I know she's cute and I know the show is a hit, but is there a worse actress on tv today than Emily Proctor? Paulie, forget the acting. It's not why she's on the show. Quote: As far as Emily Proctor goes, I'd be more than happy to watch her and listen to her practice her lines anytime she wants! LOL Got that right, Pat. Susana, it's the whole package not just the face. Ok, ok, don't flame me for that one. I tried to be PC. Just 'cause i'm old doesn't mean i'm blind. Quote:Best sitcom on TV. Sheen is fine. I agree Tommy, but Jake (Angus Jones) makes it all come together, not Charlie. For a kid his delivery is priceless. Quote:what do you think of "Out of Practice"? That's the one I think is hysterical. It's a very funny show. I didn't know it was being cancelled. Damn!Speaking of cancelled, Invasion is history. I actually like the show. But my fave is Boston Legal. There's not a bad performance by anyone on that show. James Spader can be mesmerizing.Ok I'll stop now. Tony Cartmill
Ted, Have you noticed David E Kelly and the writing crew are on a jihad against Bush Republicans and Fox News? Any chance they get, they write in a shot at them like they are all one in the same. Is that entertainment, or using your show for a political message? It doesn't bother me so much, except that some of the shots are written as "Everybody knows and agrees" fact, when the subject matter, in reality is more open to debate and opinion. And when there is a debate, Shatner's makes "crazy" comments in defense of the Conservative view...I love David E Kelly's writing talent. But I don't care to be indoctrinated while watching a TV Law Dramedy.
Paulie Mississippi
Great stuff Ted, Tony. I agree that I don't want to be 'preached at' or 'indoctrinated' by either side when I'm trying to be entertained. And since we've mentioned Bill Shatner; he's got to be in the BAD ACTING HALL OF SHAME doesn't he? When you see the definition of HAM that refers to the thespian trade, his picture is the one thay use...
mannoman
Tony, how can one not notice. Yes it's very heavy-handed (left handed) but Bush has opened the door with his bone-headed mentality. I try to look past the writing and just enjoy the performances. I mean, let's face it, the story lines (for the most part) border on the absurd. It's the acting ensemble that makes it work (the music and the film editing ain't to shabby either). Paulie, as for Shatner, he may not be Sir Laurence Oliver on the stage but he's smart enough to know his shortcomings and is not afraid to parody himself, which he does with regularity. Since Denny Crane is portrayed as somewhat of a bigoted buffoon he's the perfect character for Kelley to assign to what he perceives as the conservative personality type. On the other hand, Spader is the glue. Without him it falls apart. In short, I ignore the overt political verbiage and enjoy the hell out of the actors delivering the drivel. I would watch it 5 nights a week just to absorb the actors as they hold court (pun intended).
Tony Cartmill
Nobody writes a better courtroom closing argument than David E Kelly...Even in his early works like the movie, "From The Hip" with everybody's favorite Judd Nelson! Good movie!
pierson
how come no on mentioned Gabe Kaplan ("Welcome Back Kotter") and Jerry Seinfeld... both were/are "writers" who decided to try acting... and were lacking a lot of skills, which makes watching them a lot of fun... Paulie Mississippi
Many stand up comics actually fit this category. It's one thing to have a character as the basis for a series of jokes and quite another to try to become that character on camera! I remember hearing some of Kaplan's work on LP before Kotter... a lot of it was really funny!I got a kick out of the end of Kotter each week, when he was telling a joke to his wife... and she was never amused...
