ira
I have such a love/hate relationship with New York City! It's such an exciting city but maneuvering in and out of it is a BITCH! Tonite it took me two hours to bring my 93 year old father-in-law fom his home in the Bronx on that magical "Yellow Brick Road" also known as the "Cross-Bronx Expressway"!...(it's near Yankee Stadium) to my home in Edison New Jersey...A trip of 40 miles...That's an average of 20 Friggin' miles an hour! Those of you who've visited New York...What were your impressions?I go in every two or so weeks and LOVE being there...But it is truly a workout to maneuver around "The Big Apple" IMHO!-Ira. Tim From Wisconsin
Going to NY, LA, or even Chicago, I know going in that traffic will be hell. If you mentally prepare for it, it isn't so bad. Tim
ira
Steve... Cleveland IS a nice city and it is easier to get around...Although once you get there...It ain't as impressive as NYC!-Ira.
Guest
I love it, too Ira. It is a great city, really good restaurants. But I never had to drive when I was there.
marvin
I had a chance to visit many times when the in-laws were living in Jersey. Each visit was an experience and memorable.
Muzza
I went there a couple of years ago now with this Jewish bloke to take his son to Jersey city. Actually we didn't even get into New York proper and we were stop/start for quite a while. I couldn't believe the traffic build up with people trying to enter the Holland tunnel. Oh yeah; I remember the guys name now. It was Ira!!! Nice bloke and a great tour guide. Muzza
ira
Muzza...A few queries....1-Is it ever tough getting into downtown Fielding N.Z. during rush hour?2-Is there a rush hour in downtown Fielding?3-Is there a downtown Fielding?
angelina
Ira...when we lived in Fort Lee, NJ and Bonnie drove to her school in Queens (an eleven mile drive)..it would take her over an hour each way. It would also cost $9 in tolls. This was in 1993.I'm sure the tolls have gone up quite a bit since then.Also..when driving around town, we would alternately listen to 880AM and 1010AM because those stations would update traffic reports every ten minutes. So we would listen to one station...then immediately flip to the other. It was like a battle in progress with reports coming in from the "front". Bonnie knew all the alternate routes and decisions would have to be made at a moment's notice or else one might be doomed to sit in a traffic jam for a loooong time. Also it helps to learn to drive around NYC with one hand on the wheel and the other hand free to flip the one-fingered salute!John
MJ
I used to just take the bus in to NY - you have to be a mad psycho taxi driver to be able to drive in the City and make it out alive!!! Besides just the wait to get into the tunnel is like going down the shore in NJ - another nightmare experience for the driver..... it's best to go at 2 a.m. to either place - then there is very little traffic lol. Shelley
I don't like New York....traffic is too much...I'd rather face traffic on highway 5, 10,101, or 805 in CA anyday...

Guest
Hey...I have my own driving school. Cheap rates too!! Tip....DO NOT.... make eye contact with other road raged warriors.. I drive a lot back and forth to L.A. Sometimes, guys will just drive right along side of you,on the freeway rather then speed up or slow down. It's scary sometimes when you are driving alone and someone does it. I found a solution rather than the one finger salute. I just look back at them, then start digging in my nose. It works... ira
Peanut...It worked on "Seinfeld" too...His current girlfriend...A high fashion model....happened to pull up alongside him at a light when she thought she saw him picking his nose.Jerry saw the look of horror on her face and tried to explain that there was no "Nostril Penetration"!She didn't believe him...wouldn't answer his calls...and their relationship was OVER!Peanut8....You're obviously correct... CURLEW
On Santa Monica Boulevard & Centinela Avenue, Washington Mutual Bank has a fabulous billboard sign that says the following: " Free checking for life or until they finish the 405 freeway." Of course in New York they could probably hang a similar billboard for the I-495 Long island expressway . I left NY 32 years ago, yet every time I visit, there is never ending road construction, yet the potholes remain. Go figure...
Guest
There has been never ending work on north Scottsdale road. They are putting up new businesses and high end apartments. Manuevering around all the constuction horses are kina fun. Sort of like being at the "Bob Bonderaunt School Of high performance driving." ira
John (Angelina)...Just to give you an update on tolls in NYC...The little bridge on the Henry Hudson Parkway at Dyckman Street ...which always cost the same as the Marine Park Bridge (which I know you've crossed many times) and still costs the same as the Marine Park Bridge...was 10 cents when we wuz young and now cost $2.75 each way...as does the Marine Park Bridge in 2009.The Verrazano Bridge which links Brooklyn and Staten Islsnd costs $10 for a round trip each day..$9 with an E-Z Pass.Staten Islanders get a small break!NYC is UN-F%#%KING believable!"Where's The Magic In This Magic Town"?-The Vogues. -Ira. Muzza
Muzza...A few queries....1-Is it ever tough getting into downtown Fielding N.Z. during rush hour?2-Is there a rush hour in downtown Fielding?3-Is there a downtown Fielding? Ha Ha... Well from our house it takes about 7 minutes to walk to "downtown" Feilding (note the spelling - it doesn't follow the usual "I" before "E" rule). See... it's easy really. Still we loved New York when we were there. Of course we weren't doing the driving so it's easier that way. Muzza
darlene
I loved St. Louis in the 70s. Easier to get around in and so clean compared to NY. I adored Gaslight Square. But I haven't been back there since then. The city is a nightmare to get in and out of. I wish someone would build a magic express tunnel, but they won't. Once there, it's magic, though.Curlew, good point. Why DO the potholes remain after all that construction! --D
