Raspbernie
So, it's Paul McCartney, right? Ed Sullivan. A Hard Day's Night. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. So it's already great, follow me? But last night I could see the white's of Paul's eyes from my seat in the second row! The guy sitting next to us said he paid $2400 for his seat. I got ours at Ticketmaster. That kind of thing never happened before and will probably never happen again. In a word, Paul was magnificent. His voice was spectacular. His playing was perfection. The set list, well, I never saw the Beatles but Paul pulled so many tunes from his Fab Four catalog that I almost feel like I did. From the first chords of "Magical Mystery Tour" to the appropo "The End," this was my greatest concert EVER. (FYI: Raspberries in L.A. still has a shot to take back the throne!)Best moments: Too Many People (Ram, baby! Played note-for-note including the great guitar solo at the end!), I’ll Get You (Unreal time machine moment!), Maybe I’m Amazed (If this was the only song he had written I would still rank him as one of the all-time best composers!), I’ve Got a Feeling (Ohmygod!), Live & Let Die (Made me recall seeing Wings in '76! -- we were so close that the pyrotechnics were melting our faces :-), Get Back (I swear I had an out-of-body experience and imagined I was on the Apple rooftop clapping as John asked whether they had passed the audition!), Eleanor Rigby (The strings, the harmonies, WOW!), Helter Skelter (It started occurring to me that 50% of the songs Paul plays on this tour is a killer closing number. I kept on thinking that was it, but he kept playing more!), Please, Please Me (I actually had tears in my eyes on this one (Wuss!)More AMAZING highlights: Jet, Drive My Car, Let Me Roll It (I love watching Paul play that riff on his left-handed Les Paul), Got to Get You into my Life, Good Day Sunshine, Band on the Run, Back in the USSRBiggest surprise: In Spite of All the Danger (It was really inspiring to see one man standing on stage at Madison Square Garden with an acousting guitar slung around his neck mesmerizing every single man, woman and child in the joint! It was really something to behold!)Best new song: Follow Me (Catchier and much better than the CD version when played live!)And I'm sure I left out half of the set. Paul played for almost 3 hours. If you don't have tickets and he's coming to a town near you, SEE THIS SHOW! How much longer can he do this? I mean, when he's 64?:-)BerniePS: Hey Jude, Let It Be, The Long And Winding Road, Yesterday…
Lew Bundles
Bern. I saw you at the Garden last night from my seat way up in the stratosphere...You had told me where your seats were and I was able to spot you guys...He was incredible as always, although I think the song selection from the last tour was stronger...If I could eject "Good Day Sunshine",Drive My Car and Got To Get You Into My Life and substitute, All My Loving, I Saw Her standing There and Cant Buy Me Love from the last tour, my night would be untoppable...Tears fell on I'll Get You and Long Nd Winding Road...I,ve GoT a Feeling is a GREAT addition to his concert lineup as well as I Will , I'll Get You and Please Please me...I'm glad that he seems to be loosening up a bit and doing some of the stuff that were identifiable with John as well as he and only hope that someday, I'll get to hear him do I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You... Imagine the fact that this guy has such a catalogue of material that songs like Maybe I'm Amazed and Long and Winding Road are buried spomewhere in the middle of the set...These would be absolute highlites in any other artists canon...I urge everybody to go see him...There are newly released tickets for tonights Garden show at Ticketmaster outlets, in all price ranges...Go Go Go...Yeah Yeah Yeah...P.S....Dont forget "For No One" and "I Will"...This is the 13th time I've seen him and it gets more amazing everytime... marvin
Bernie, Kathy and Lew, thanks for the goosebump moments. It's been years since I've seen a McCartney concert. Andy and I went to see Paul in 1989 at the Montreal Forum during the "Flowers" show, and I don't think either of us have ever come down from that experience. AnneG
A friend of mine babysat for Paul's son, years back. Paul came home, took out his guitar and taught her some basics - he was very patient, kind and unassuming. She was fine until she left...and then realized what had just transpired. I think she was pure jelly for about a week!Anne
Leff'tHome
WOW! I'm jelly just thinking about it. I saw him interviewed a week or so ago on Sunday Morning and all that kept going through my head was "What a class act!" May we all keep enjoying his music for a very, very long time. sterling
Bernie, Kathy and Lew,Thanks so much for all of the information about the Paul McCartney concert! "The best concert you have ever seen!". Wow Bernie I know that has got to cover a lot of territory. I am so looking forward to seeing Paul on October 18 at the United Center in Chicago. Of course, we will be in the nosebleed section with "Keith" somewhere nearby. But, hey if I had been at MSG.....I would have waved at your front row seat. Been there before and ....done that! Captain Harlock
My seat was right next to Lew Bundles. I had a good view of the Knicks champion ship banners. But I think the stage was all the way in New Jersey!I'd like to see him do a few more songs from Flaming Pie. Namely "Young Boy" and "The World Tonight". Also I'm a little bummed about him dropping "My Love" from this tour. That's always been one of my favorites.
Raspbernie
The talk over at paulmccartney.com is that Paul dropped "My Love" (written about Linda) due to pressure from Heather. Notice the single split-second shot of the back of Linda's head in the 10-minute pre-concert film on Paul's life?Bernie
BeatleJay
Thanks for the report, Bernie. Amidst all the Raspberries excitement, I almost forgot that I had the McCartney show coming up. He is playing in Portland Nov. 4. He was here in 2002 and it was an incredible show. He was in great voice, and the band was awesome. Very cool that he played I'll Get You- looking forward to that! ira
Bernie,Kathy I haven't thought alot about McCartney in a long time but you really whet my appetite.I was up at 5:50 a.m. and bid on a copy of "Wingspan" on e-bay . I just won at a cost of 7.00 GBP total (less than $13.00)- on Parlophone no less! Thanks for reminding me how much I love his stuff. It's a funny thing.I love the Beatles.But-I was 13 in 1964.The Beatles were sooo overplayed-AND-I tend to root for underdogs. Hence,(British-speak?) it has taken me years to (in a crazy kind of way) rediscover them. But you know what? With 50 CENT and his G-Unit ruling the radio waves, and with Paul's last album (according to Billboard) selling a meager 270,000 copies I can enjoy Paul and the Beatles again AND root for the underdogs! "Will It Go 'Round In Circles"?

BeatleJay
She seems to have no understanding or appreciation for anything that happened before she came along. From what I've heard, she isn't even very familiar with Beatles music.
seattlesteve
I saw Mac on the last tour but it was in the Tacoma Dome, a football stadium, paid $250 each for tickets but did manage to be about row 15, pretty good relatively speaking, and I thought it was awesome, better than the Wings 76 tour which I was festival standing about 10 ft from the stage in the Kingdome (if you have the Wings Over America video, it was filmed in Seattle, apparently the biggest venue on the circuit.)Incredible concert. I assumed he was coming back and doing the same show so I didn't get tickets for Seattle in Key arena, which is about 1/4 the size of the Tacoma dome.If I remember, Eric answered my question on Paul's last tour and he said it blew him away too, knocking out Elton John's Yellow Brick Road tour as his favorite. After Bernies post, looks like I'm going on ebay...
seattlesteve
I noticed on the last tour he used a teleprompter a bit for the lyrics, does he have them down now?
Raspbernie
I didn't see a teleprompter, but Paul did sing the wrong second verse on "For No One." He caught himself, stopped and said, "Now you folks know this isn't a canned performance," or something to that effect. And started it again from the beginning. It was pretty funny, actually.Bernie
Matthew C. Clark
I saw a commercial about Paul while I was watching the Detroit Lions playing the Baltimore Ravens. It played the song "Band On The Run" & used classic photos of him. Matt
Matthew C. Clark
The commercial was for Fidelity Investments (Smart Move). The ad is also on pages 2 & 3 where Paul is on the cover of the latest "Rolling Stone" magazine!! The number is 1-800-FIDELITY. Matt
