Since many of you are fans, I saw this link for tix that go on sale tomorrow...coliseumconnection@nassaucoliseum.com...Maybe, he is actually going to work the phones for this sale, because, once again, he seems to be absent from the Hurricane Releif concert lineup for tomorrow...Nothing new though, I dont remember him taking part in any big time charity event...Live 8, Concert for 9/11, Kampuchea,Farm Aid, etc...I guess its not in his nature...Not a slam, just a fact...Maybe, he sends 10 or 20 bucks privately...

Nice "pretend" informational thread. You obviously started this to get in a jab at Bruce. While I'm not the biggest fan, I do take exception to you singling him out as an artist who doesn't care about helping the Hurricane victims. Only about 1% of musicians take part in the "big" events. Why just ask where Bruce is? There are a lot of movie/TV stars, along with musicians that would rather give on their own instead of turning it into a self-serving media event. The focus should be on who is being helped, not who is doing the helping.

And yes - You meant this thread as a slam.

BTW - There is a link on Bruce's website to The Red Cross relief effort if you would like to help. happy

Lew don't start this nonsense again, please. If you must know, there are a bunch of charities such as food banks, shelters for battered/abused women, etc. that Bruce contributes to on a regular basis. He just doesn't advertise it the way you think he should. And by the way, he did appear on the 9/11 music special a few days after that tragedy.

Bruce opened the 9/11 telethon broadcast. Has regularly donated a portion of proceeds from his shows to local food banks since 1984, does regular holiday benefit shows in NJ. He's done the Bridge School Benefits a few years. He came here to Pittsburgh to participate in Flood-Aid, a local concert for flooding victims in Pittsburgh last year. He appeared on "We are the World" and donated a track to the album for USA For Africa. He's took part in the Harry Chapin Tribute Concert to raise money for World Hunger and headlined the Amnesty International Human Rights Now Tour. And on and on. He's got nothing to apologize to you for, Lew.

What big events has John Waite done? I don't care really, but you seem to want to keep score. I like artists for their music. And if they do charity work, God bless them. That's up to them.

This back and forth is getting ridiculous. If Bruce did everything his public wanted him to do, he would have no time for his family nor time to further develop his talents and contribute as best he can (musically, financially, personally, etc.)

Why is it that some people only feel better about themselves by putting others down?

I'm obviously not alone (not owning any Springsteen and voted for Bush twice). As for Bush, I'm not sure any of the other pres candidates could do better with people below them not communicating well to the top - and it happens in every administration. Most of our judgments right now are based on blatant surface facts or preliminary information. Many more details need to be learned before anyone knows when and where things really took a wrong turn (with Katrina.) Entertainers have such a great opportunity to speak from their heart and people listen. I haven't seen Springsteen in concert, but I'd be surprised if he makes it through his upcoming concerts without a personal expression encouraging support of the relief effort.

"Gee Bernie, I didn't think anyone would catch on."

Marv, I noticed, but Bernie beat me to the comment. By the way, Calgary is one of my favorite places in the world. I drove through when I was moving to Alaska. I loved the quaint neighborhoods and the artsy architecture of the performing arts centers downtown. Hope to go to next summer's stampede!!! You live in a beautiful city with lots of beautiful people.

Mellie thanks for the kind words about Calgary. I've lived here for the last 7 years, and even though I might end up living here for the rest of my life, I'm an easterner born and bred (Montreal), and though Calgary is where I live, it will never be what I call "home."

What truly amazes me about the many U.S. people that I've met and call friends is, how many of them are clueless about their Canadian neighbours, how many know zero about where Canadian cities are located, the politics, etc. Growing up in Canada, elementary, high school, and university students are almost forced to study U.S. history, geography, politics, etc., thus we are brought up with a very sound understanding of the U.S. I'd go out on a limb and say that the average Canadian knows more about the U.S. than the average American knows about Canada.

Nice Springsteen thread, huh?!

Marv,

I would agree with you about your observation concerning U.S. citizens and their lack of knowledge of Canada. But U.S. kids know very little about any country and in many cases it is scary what they do not know about the USA. I taught school for 34 years and know this to be true. I grew up in Illinois and my grandparents had a cabin in western Ontario that we spent many summer vacations at as a kid. We loved Canada! The only other place in Canada I have been to is taking my own daughters to a full day in Montreal when we were vacationing in the Adirondack Mts of NY. Most Americans that I have talked to that have been to Canada it has been fishing in the same general area I mentioned earlier. There just is not that much exposure from personal experience for many U.S. citizens IMHO.

I will probably get myself in trouble for saying this but too bad we in the U.S. do not have a health care system like yours. It would sure make my situation a lot better and a lot of others as well.

Yes..nice Springsteen thread!!!
