hollies65
Franken is a bore. Stewart and Colbert are much funnier. There is a reason Franken had the time to try and secure a Senate spot...He had no job.
Guest
Rabid Rush and Sean are going to have to find new jobs when the Fairness Doctrine & Equal Time rule (or some variation of them) finds it's way back to talk radio!

Guest
Back in the 80s, you didn't dare go on the air with a political issue or interview unless both sides were represented. Long FCC forms had to be filled out, and a synopsis of the show (live or taped) had to be reported. It was so much work, but producers were diligent and took it very seriously. hollies65
Thank goodness we've moved past that. Liberal rhetoric can be difficult to listen too...that's why they never succeed. Air America was a colossal failure. To his credit Obama has no interest in pursuing this bad idea.
Guest
Actually, I predict there will be a return to real radio that has a story to tell, and serves the community. Air America and Rush or Sean aren't any different. They're all the same. They try to polarize the American public.Take liberal and conservative out of it... both sides play politics and they both exude rhetoric! One isn't any different than the other... they both play the same games. It's not real news radio anymore... Sean Hannity talks about how it is an entertainment medium and he's right. His new show opening... something like the Underground Radical News Source (I know I don't have it exactly right) tells the whole story. It's a spoof, and Hannity — as Rush — is a PERSONNA. That personna will change if the rules are changed... (if they want to stay in broadcasting). They are what people in the business call talent, and they do what they have to do to keep their jobs.Within 2 years of Rush's radio debut, 2 talk radio hosts at the station I worked for were fired. When offered a chance to work for the competition, they "turned" conservative just so they could have a job! Obama may not be hot for the Fairness Doctrine now, but I predict his fellow democrats will convince him to help make those changes.
hollies65
Sorry, the cats out of the bag. What a joke,if people want to listen to conservative talk they will, same with liberal radio. Who said it was "news radio"? Al Franken had a radio show...it sucked. Rush has one...it's the most popular ever...Hannity's is the 2nd most popular. Sorry...I don't believe in living in the past. "We're terrible...everyone tunes out! No sponsors want to pay for our spot...WWHHHHAAAA!!!!! Government, force them to listen to us!" Heh. Guest
You can only listen to Conservative radio if it's still around!
hollies65
Oh BTW, spouting a particular political view...having core political beliefs is not a bad thing...it just so happens people tune in to hear the conservatives do it.

Guest
Oh, I forgot to say, radio is a licensed product... it's actually requires a "privileged license" which says it must serve the community. This whole thing has been about money... conservative talk has brought in the money so local station owners were inclined to program along those lines. hollies65
Do you think you are telling me things I don't already know? Rush is the "talent", oh...thanks. Radio is still about money...ask your friends still in the business. Like I said...good luck with your time machine!

austinberries
whoa - zing, LV!it's an interesting phenomena that right-wing radio soars & while left-wing radio sputters. i think the reasons why are obvious, tho' hollies & i would debate on those reasons, no doubtback to my original post: Jaw-juh went down in a ball of Red flame yesterday. remains to be seen how the great northern hinterland (MN) faresmy gift to you & tony, hollies - the magic # of 41! hey, where's tony anyway?
