I Can Die Happy Now

Having seen the Raspberries Reunion Concert and their subsequent concert tour, I needed to do one more thing to die happy: I needed to hear Oscar Levant play the second movement of the Grieg piano concerto. I've been collecting Levant recordings and pictures for awhile now, but that recording was extremely rare and I couldn't find it, nor anyone who had one, anywhere. frown

I didn't give up (ah, the mustard seed thing...) and...lo and behold, it came up on eBay. Some fabulous Canadian had it, probably read that I was inquiring everywhere, and put it up for sale!

I received it and just heard the recording today. (It also has the Tchaikovsky piano concerto on the disc as well!). Oscar played it even more sublimely happy

But not before the Berries' DVD release and their subsequent success happens. So I guess I'll have to stay around for awhile...

You are SO right! Your cheese supply would overflow without me around to "trim" it! I'm not even sure I could quit the earth while there's still cheese in the world.

I thought I could die happy after hearing the Grieg, but if I had, I would have given up the ghost too soon.

I went to the mailbox today and saw a very interesting package which, believe it or not, I hadn't ordered. I opened it up and inside were FOUR cds from a precious friend and fellow devotee of Oscar Levant containing precious recordings of all of Levant's music AND the Grieg and Tchaikovsky concertos. I gasped when I opened it and began to read the cd labels. Much of this music has never been publicly performed and some are intimate renderings Oscar performed for his friends. The works include Oscar's STRING QUARTET(second movement)!!!! This darling man, who has been friends with someone in George and Ira Gershwin's inner circle, is the salt of the earth. Now I have to scour the world for some way to try and repay this amazingly precious gift!

There are one or two Levant things he doesn't have, which I do, and I'll send those to him immediately. But does anyone have any other ideas on how I could show him my complete gratitude for his generosity?

I've been wearing my mustard seed jewelry. Improves one's life every time!

Ahhhh, Julia! You are SO sweet! Thanks. I love you, too! heartpump

Now, Muzza, about that cheese....?!!! Man doesn't live by bread alone--he needs CHEESE!

The more eating cheese, the merrier, Muzz. If the earth were made of cheese, you and Kiwi could start eating down there, Kath and I could start up here and we could eat our way through to meet in the middle!
